          “ it is !! “  lee is receptive to her CALL ,  meeting her halfway as she APPROACHED ,  his arm coming around the box to hold it steady and peer inside .  he has always admired hinata’s HANDICRAFT ,  but it feels ESPECIALLY wonderful knowing that she did this just for him .  he smiles ,  a  ( childlike )  grin ,  teeth flashing and cheeks BLOOMING with color .  

          “ thank you SO MUCH ,  hinata !!  it looks so BEAUTIFUL —— i feel like i shouldn’t eat the whole thing by MYSELF ;  how about you share some with me ?? “

but she made the delectable for him. she couldn’t possibly eat it , yet he OFFERED her a bite of it . a tiny smile forms itself on her face. hinata’s HANDS came together , pressing her fingertip ever so gently together . she’s a [  people pleaser  ]. she just couldn’t say n o. at least , not to the BIRTHDAY BOY .

‘ lee... i’ve already made EXTRA ... i - i couldn’t but , if you insist  ————  i’d LOVE to share a piece with you ! ‘

"ah... lee let me help you. you're bleeding."

          “ am i … ? “  he hasn’t NOTICED the sliver of blood sliced cleanly into his palm —— not until HINATA takes his hand between her soft fingers ,  and her thumb brushes LIGHTLY over the wound to  ( smear away )  the bubble of red .  it’s small —— NEGLIGIBLE ,  even —— but it fills lee with a certain HAPPINESS anyway .  he surrenders his hand to her ,  ALLOWING her to tend to the cut .  maybe it’s a good excuse to hold her hand … if you could call this HOLDING .  “ —— thank you ,  hinata . “

“ ah, lee! ” hinata called out to the other. “ i heard it was your birthday . . . i - i’ve made you a small cake. it might not be enough, i’m sorry. “

she gently pressed the box against his chest. through the clear plastic top was a small, round cheese cake decorated with edible purple flowers. she woke up at the peak hours of the morning just to make sure she got it t him in time. she would’ve felt horrible if she missed giving him something.
