7 Reasons Why Women Should Ride Motorbikes
Women have been riding motorcycles for a long time, but it's only recently that women are becoming more and more common on the streets. You might be wondering why you should ride a motorcycle when there are so many other options out there. Keep reading to find out 7 reasons why you should take up motorcycling!
7 Reasons Why Women Should Ride Motorbikes
I'm a woman and I've been riding motorcycles for about 15 years. I started with dirt biking, moved into the street and then got into the competitive racing side of things, something that eventually led me to become a motorcycle instructor. I think it's safe to say that my view on this topic is pretty well informed at this point!
Tumblr media
When you ask anyone why they started riding or what made them want to get their license, the answers are all over the map; some people dream about motorcycles from an early age, while others simply just need a way to get around. I've heard a number of reasons from women why they want to ride motorcycles and here are just a few:
Because they're fun!
For transportation in the city.
They look sexy!
In case you were wondering, here are three things that have nothing to do with why women should ride bikes. Boring practicality doesn't count. If you want a scooter to get around in the city, it's going to be cheaper, easier and more reliable to buy one instead of riding a motorcycle around town. And for details the moto adviser is one of the best blog sites for you.
With all that out of the way, here are 7 reasons why women should take up motorcycling:
1) Bikes are just plain fun!
A lot of people who decide to get into motorcycling tend to want more from their bikes than simply being convenient forms of transportation. Bikes are challenging and exciting; for those who love motorcycles, they're more than just a means of getting from point A to point B. If you've got the bug and want to start riding, consider yourself lucky: motorcycling is one of the most fun and rewarding things anyone can do with their time.
2) Motorcycles are relatively cheap!
There's no denying that bikes are expensive these days, but if you take into consideration how much money women could potentially save on gas, parking and repairs/maintenance then they might not be as expensive as some would think. While new bikes can be pricey, used bikes will give you a lot more bang for your buck.
With motorcycles sitting lower to the ground than cars or scooters and having mostly maintenance free drivetrains, they're often easier to handle and maintain than other forms of transportation.
3) You can get fit!
Riding a motorcycle is exercise that doesn't feel like exercise. With all the focus on bad backs, weight loss, arthritis etc... it's not really cool to ride a bike around town when you could take public transit instead - but even if your destination isn't too far away, riding still gives you the opportunity to get in some good cardio exercise. Riding will give you more stamina in bed too! One thing to keep in mind though: don't fall off while getting into shape for summer!
4) They're fun!
There are plenty of ways women can have fun on two wheels. If your idea of a good time is cruising around on the weekends, motorcycling is a great way to go. Riding with friends or going on longer rides gives you something new to look forward to every week and maybe even meet some new people along the way. Indeed, there's no better way to see a city than from a motorcycle - you'll save a lot on gas money by avoiding traffic jams too!
5) You can do it on your own terms
If you're wanting to start riding but live in an area where winters are harsh, snow and bad road conditions can make getting through winter difficult as a motorcycle rider. It's not impossible though: all you need is the right gear. some creativity and careful planning, and you can still ride even in the worst conditions.
Rather than waiting for nice weather to start riding, get your winter gear and plan some trips when the snow starts to fall. There's nothing like carving up fresh powder on two wheels! You'll find that once you're ready to take your motorcycle out of storage, Spring will come just that much sooner.
6) It might make you happier!
There are plenty of benefits associated with motorcycling, including getting outside in nature and having fun with friends - but one thing riders might not expect is how it could affect their happiness quotient over time.
A study recently found that women who frequently ride motorcycles report feeling more confident and excited about life than they typically do (and this isn't just another study trying to link motorcycles with happiness for the sake of selling bikes).
This is because motorcycling makes you feel more powerful and gives you back a sense of control over your life that might have been lost in other areas.

7) Motorcycles help reduce traffic congestion!
One reason so many women are turned off by motorcycles is safety concerns - however, one way to keep yourself safe on the road is knowing how to 'filter', which is riding between lanes at stoplights.
Some cities allow filtering while others don't, but it's never a bad idea to take any opportunity you can get to ride without getting stuck behind cars that just won't budge. If motorcycle riders suddenly decide they're okay with filters, suddenly there will be a lot more free space for cars which means less congestion and frustration for everyone!

Conclusion
Women are just as capable of riding motorcycles as men, and should do it for the many benefits that come with it. If you’re interested in learning more about all these reasons why women should ride motorbikes.
