           WHEN IT GETS AROUND - thanks to gossiping lips and Luke’s way of easily figuring out the latest info by sheer travel - and they hear her name involved in the many that are under suspicion . . . well , of course do they have to find her. And when they do , they waste no time in inviting themselves over , sitting next to her and taking a breath. What to say . . . Sometimes , even for Luke , it isn’t easy. ❝ So . . . I heard they pulled you in for . . . ❞ They don’t want to say it , so they don’t. Another pause. ❝ . . . FOR THE RECORD , I really don’t think you did it. ❞

          ❝ SO I’VE GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU. ❞ They begin , pulling up a chair and taking a look at Pocky - sizing him up and down , almost , given he isn’t someone they’ve particularly gotten along the best with here in Auradon. But they’e also curious. ❝ I know y’got a thing for cars and all , some . . . special love for ‘em , ❞ they shrug , looking back up and continuing ,  ❝ but have you ever considered BOATING before ?? ❞

         AS THEY LOOK OVER A MAP UPON THE TABLE , Luke’s thoughts are unfortunately not focused on reading it as they are recent news. Call them nosy ; they hate not knowing things , however. And granted maybe more information will be released in time , but the process of waiting is becoming a bit too painstaking for them to stay still. But it puts a lot of questions in their brain - how many people were involved , how many people actually know about it. How many secrets are being kept. ❝ . . . Say , O. ❞ They call out , looking up from their map and standing up straight. ❝ Just . . . food for thought : if I stole an important object that everyone was looking around for - ❞ To try and put themselves in the thief’s shoes. ❝ - and I told you , would you tell anyone else or would you keep it a secret ?? . . . Just curious. ❞

           ❝ YOU KNOW , KIND OF BALLSY OF YOU to be out here at night , all by yourself. ❞ They’d asked for the meet-up earlier , of course ; but Luke’s never one to approach situations without some sort of dry comment to offer - some deadpan crack to make. So when they find him , they offer a ghost of a smile , puffing at their pipe and crossing their arms with amusement. ❝ Y’hear that there’s a thief lurking around here ?? Brought in some suspects - but in MY OPINION , none of ‘em make the cut. Even the Evil Queen’s kid ; doesn’t seem like the type who’s hellbent on holding onto her mom’s things. I could be the thief , even. N’ you wouldn’t even know it since I’m such a stealthy badass , after all. ❞

“ oh, the museum thing is absolutely wretched. do you think any of the suspects actually did it or is there something more officials aren’t telling us? ” she simply finds it hard to believe someone like eira would go through the trouble. “ and us, obviously, ” odette replies loftily. “ you’re an awful, awful influence, you know? ” she clicks her tongue in mock disapproval, but the grin forming on her lips shows she’s only joking. “ i mean, day drinking has its charms even if it is kind of a questionable decision. ” she sips from her bottle of sauvignon blanc ( taken from her father’s wine cellar ). “ so the only non-wretched thing is the scenery. can’t mess with nature. ”

          ❝ I MEAN , I NEVER SAID I WAS A GOOD ONE. ❞ Luke quips in return , taking a swig from their bottle and then setting it to the side. But Odette has a very good point , in the sense that some of the suspects just seem . . . unlikely. On both sides : Auradon’s children , and the Isle’s children. Hard to imagine a lot of them doing it. ❝ The thing is , sometimes the suspect might be someone we won’t expect . . . which is why I’m wondering if they more so took in a few random names to SAVE FACE since someone higher up could’ve pulled this off. ❞ They shake their head , pausing for a second. Calculating gaze hesitates before shifting towards Odette. ❝ You know , we weren’t pulled in , sure - but don’t you think it looks a little SUSPICIOUS that we’re out here , unsupervised , doin’ god knows what while the other kids are under interrogation ?? ❞

            sofie adjusts the cap on her head,  squinting at the  treasure  (  if it could even be called that  )  through the glare of the sun.  she inhaled,  the sharp scent of the sea stinging her nose.      “   i dunno.    ”    she says with a shrug,   moving in to take a closer look at the crown.  it had been pretty once,  sofie assumes,  though you’d have to really think  hard  to imagine the crown in its prime.    “    think it’s from one of the royals?  before auradon was even formed?      ”

          AS THEY CONTINUE TO PONDER , they tilt the crown back and forth , allowing its glint to shine on multiple edges in the sunlight. A hand moves to squeeze more saltwater out of their tangled hair , and they hold out the artifact for Sofie to take. ❝ Might be. ❞ Wouldn’t be a bad guess. It looks like it has an age to it , after all ; there haven’t been many shipwrecks since Auradon’s formation , either. It’d be more likely it came beforehand. ❝ Wanna take a guess as to where it’s from ?? I’d actually bet around your kingdom. ❞

MAYBE she just wanted a bit of chaos or just trying to pretend to do the right thing, even just keeping them on their toes. even though they were right, cecilia still smiled a bit sinisterly. “personally, it’s not a big deal to me but what if someone else saw you do that, don’t y’think it would be a big deal to them? that’s practically stealing if not straight up. but since it’s for me, i’ll keep it between us, cool?” she raised her brow.

          ❝ COOL. ❞ OCEAN PRINCE REPLIED WITH A LAX GRIN , taking their hand and tucking a lock of hair behind their air. Watchful eyes give the area another once-over to see if anyone else is around to notice - which proves not to be the case. But maybe they lack a little bit of integrity ; doing the right thing , as small as it may be , while nearly no-one is around to see ?? Hard for them. They’re a little motivated by self-interest. ❝ It’s for a good cause , anyway - well , good cause being whatever you’re writing. ❞ A small smile. ❝ And does the mysterious writer have a name ?? ❞

They elaborate as they stand up straight ,  ❝ Like , just running in the middle of the street shouting ‘ stop the chaos , I did it , I did it ’ - granted it wouldn’t help anyone but it’d be fuckin’ funny. Not that I’d do it , but it has . . . crossed my mind a bit. Also out of curiosity - since I don’t know if they’d be GULLIBLE ENOUGH to take me seriously. ❞

          a  light  chuckle  escaped  the  princess’  glossed  lips.  luke  was  undoubtably  one  of  ophelia’s  older  friends  &  she  adored  them  endlessly.  so  it  was  really  no  surprise  that  ophelia  would  do  something  to  help  the  other  out.  long  fingers  wrapped  around  the  key  almost  in  a  protective  manner.  she  took  things  seriously,  that  much  was  evident.  “  myself  ?  i  don’t  think  there’s  anything  to  worry  about,  luke.  ”  her  tone  was  the  epitome  of  confusion.  “  i  mean,  the  biggest  problem  i  have  right  now  is  a  test  on  wednesday,  ”  she  chuckled  lightly.  &  the  museum  business,  but  she  was  sure  that  much  was  a  given.

          They raised their finger in a ‘ wait ‘ manner , eyebrows raising. ❝ There’s always a reason to worry about yourself - always something to look out for. ❞ It sounded cryptic ; like Luke knew more than they let on. But of course , they clarified it with , ❝ But you know what I mean. That y’should focus on your own stuff rather than . . . ❞ That same finger waved around the area , a long sigh releasing from the captain’s lips. ❝ . . . the HUBBUB goin’ on right now. ❞

         Clef shuddered at the thought before taking another swig from his drink. “ We have to make sure that they never, ever even end up in the same room. Maybe just take over on communication between our two areas -     or at least get our siblings to do it. Heavens knows that they’d get along and I don’t think we’d survive that with our sanity.” He rolled his eyes, “Oh c’mon, not all of us were born with the blessing of being a mermaid, you know! The best I got from my parents was the ability to chat up woodland creatures and a handful of castles.” 

           They had to once again keep themselves from unleashing a loud burst of laughter - namely , of course , at his final comment. ❝ Oh no , POOR YOU ! Rich kid who can talk to animals and has his own castles strictly for partying & messing up can’t grow a mermaid tail. However will you survive ?? ❞ They ask sarcastically , leaning back and taking a deep breath. A pause. ❝ I mean . . . it IS pretty cool. ❞ They stuck their foot up in the air , observing their sole boot for a few seconds before allowing it to fall again. ❝ Mom used to say otherwise - she wanted feet. Can you believe that ?? And up here everyone else wants to be a MERMAID. ❞

Nodding her head, a soft sigh escapes her lips. “totally is e a s i e r said than done.. i get that o f t e n.” she admits, a small smile forming as she watched as Luke went inside the ocean. watching as she transformed into a m e r m a i d left a surprise look on the girl, just pure a m a z e m e n t that the other could do that. “i know it this m i g h t be a stupid question… but how e x a c t l y do you shower with a tail? do you f a l l right into the tub or do you come out h e r e to shower?” her head tilted to the side wanting to learn more about the other before smiling and nodding her head. “i am! and that’s r i g h t, you’re luke! ariel’s your mom.. i hear she’s good friends with my mom.” 

          They tip an imaginary hat upon their head , nodding as they lean upon the deck. ❝ Uh-huh - Prince-slash-Captain Luke Andersen at your service. ❞ The smile upon their lips is coy and smooth , hand running through their head as their tail flicks again. But now thinking of Ariella’s question , they tilt an ear to the side with thought. ❝ I mean . . . I think it’s only salt water that makes me get fishy. But I dunno for sure - might be a day when I’m taking a bath and suddenly I slip on my own tail comin’ out ; hasn’t happened yet , but I’m not ruling it out entirely. ❞

006. a farewell letter                sofie ,

               I don’t ever know when you’re going to get this letter and if you do , I’m sorry. I don’t know even if this is something I’ll have to send out. But if you’re getting this - that means I’ve finally gotten the spine to sail away from Auradon and I don’t think I’ll be coming back. There’s too much on my shoulders that doesn’t align with the future I’ve wanted for myself , and for those reasons I’ve decided to depart.

                I wanted to thank you for being a great friend , as well as wish you luck and good health in the future. And I think you’re the type of person Auradon is going to need forever.
