Obviously not asking you to design a full set of regs but with all these issues being discussed with the new regs what would be your ideal direction for F1 car design?
considering active aero was added as a band-aid solution for the terrible 50/50 harvesting, i feel like the logical place to begin in fixing the regs would be to figure out how to fix the energy supply. whether that means adding a standardized supply of mgu-hs or allowing for front regen, i don't know. it makes zero sense to rely so much on the mgu-k and not include a front component, there just isn't enough power from the mgu-k as it stands. i almost feel like the regs were created with a more robust mgu-k system in mind but then the teams complained too much and so we were left with an inefficient half-baked concept
the new pus are a big step backwards in terms of innovation, i understand the pov of "new limitations = new opportunities for creativity" but this is f1 actively moving away from creating specialized cars to appeal to general car manufacturers... i don't think there's any way you can put a positive spin on that from the perspective of racing. so i suppose not bending over for audi would be a good place to begin too lmao
i also really dislike the reliance on fuel and the idea that fuel manufacturers could have such a big influence on the pecking order of the cars, though i have no idea how this could be resolved without putting more limitations on it

"I've won a few races in Formula 1, and the feeling that you get once you get that win is incredible.
Because you know you've done the best on track, but it depends on so many other people doing the right thing. It's such an incredible joy not only for you, but for more than 1,500 people that are back at the factory in Maranello working for the Formula 1 programme.
So it's crazy, there are so many people involved, and whenever you achieve that as a team it's such an incredible feeling. Victory, the taste of victory is what motivates me."
—Charles Leclerc [x]
the mechanical dimension of f1 seems to be going a bit over ppl's head sometimes--like they know it exists but don't really acknowledge it. i think it's charles who said that the driver's performance inside the car only makes 10% of the work right now (i might be misquoting don't @ me on that tho). now that's not to take away anything from the driver and if you're not doing the job inside the car then you're simply not going to win but f1 is Nawt an individual sport like let's say swimming. you have to rely on a lot of external factors like your car, your team's strategy, pitstop, etc... those are all things outside of your control. and the car, you simply cannot change through pure will & hunger to win. you are given a tool and you have to try to sharpen it to its extreme but if you are given a rusty pocket knife then it's never going to be as good as a high-class japanese knife the others might have. and it's relative, if Everyone has a rusty pocket knife and yours is the less dull then you're going to win because you're best compared to the rest
#im trying to get into the engineering side bc i think ill find even more enjoyment by understanding more this part haha#its honesty amazing how everything comes together in a team for an f1 win#its sometimes annoying not to see ur guy up there in n1! but acknowledging its a team sport can only help :)

Tell me wholesome things about Piarles please. I’m new to F1 and they’re my two faves. All I know is that they were teammates in karting and have known each other since they were kids.
okieeee
they met when they were 9, their families became good friends and they'd go to each others houses and go on holiday together :)
pierre's blog from 2006 when he'd gave been 10 talks about his friend charles who is monagasque!
they both openly say that they're each others best friend in f1. charles says that pierre's his only real friend in f1, and pierre's parents have said that charles is the only person pierre can be completely genuine and honest with in f1
when charles' dad died in 2017 pierre came to baku (the race right after) and went on the prema pitwall for him :(
when anthoine died pierre went to see charles in the hotel room that evening and asked him to win for anthoine :( and that was charles' first win...
on pierre's first win at monza 2020, charles had a big crash. he wasn't medically cleared but he still came out and stood behind the podium to watch pierre :((((((
their nicknames include 'mon petit' 'ma poule' (my chick) 'calamar' (squid) and charles likes to put kissy emojis on pierre's posts
lots of ppl will be able to remember tons of stuff so pls rb w good ones for anon pls <3

Yesterday you told us about ‘extremes adjustments’ which helped you, how did quali go today for you ?
It worked quite well, it worked in Q1, it starting working a bit less in Q2 and a bit less in Q3 as well. I can only be disappointed because P4 is no reason to party but i’m quite satisfied that we made these changes yesterday. It’s very clear that it allowed me to drive on the limit and to extract more from the car. We’re still a bit behind RB and Mclaren, well a lot behind actually. We will keep on working on it, this concerns the overall pace of the car but what matters most is that I was able to extract the most out of the car and this gives me confidence for the race tomorrow because the balance is important. I really went in a very different direction but I really feel a lot more comfortable. Whether for this week-end or the rest of the year, I think this is a positive lesson.
With that satisfaction from yesterday and even from today — even if the position itself doesn’t satisfy you — what can happen tomorrow ?
There are a lot of question marks because we couldn’t do any race pace simulation with this setup, there’s a big question mark regarding the race. My feeling is that it’s going to be a lot better, with the rain that’s another question mark. There are a lot of question marks but we will see, today the feeling was better in any case and I think we’re going in the right direction.
#charlie finding a great setup even when the free practices were literally a dumpster fire w the red flags#yay#now i pray bahrain updates will be good

Similarities between Charles & Kimi Raikkonen?
Their ability to analyze in the race, the race awareness, being aware of what is happening around you. This ability to understand what is happening in the race, to analyze the strategy, is something I found with Charles. In F1, there are no bad drivers, all are fast, but only Leclerc, Verstappen and Hamilton have this power of analysis."
Julien Simon-Chautemps (race engineer for Sauber 2017-2021) in AutoHebdo Collector magazine
