Interesting aspect of Season 6: there's obviously been discussion of the different chemistry between Ronnie and Sam vs. Ronnie and Matt. But I think the relationship between Sam and the Guv is also fascinating.

We entered in Season 1 into an established, easy MIU chemistry. Ronnie and Matt and Natalie had figure out what worked. And a lot of the conflict, the interesting drama in Series 6 is Ronnie and Natalie figuring out whether Sam is a good copper (yes) and how things work with him (harder.) She obviously trusts the folks she's talked to from his previous shop. But again and again, we have the question of Sam's temper. Matt had a temper, but his young 'tearaway' days were further behind him than Sam's were.

And while Ronnie is his partner, it's Natalie who really has to deal with the fallout. Smooth off the rougher edges of Sam's nature.

Sex Education with DS Ronnie Brooks: quite the experience.

(also: I totally missed “Something you want to tell me?” while watching it. THANK YOU, SAM, FOR PUTTING THAT IMAGE IN MY HEAD. There is a list (unwritten) of  men I’d want to see in a red chemise. And I love Ronnie, but he isn’t on it.)

Does Ron seem to mention more about the first Mrs Brooks than the second? LOL.

Maybe it’s because the original L&O episode this was based on is still fresh in my mind, I kinda prefer the original version than the UK adaptation, which is rare. In the original I loved that scene where Bernard gave Lupo a smackdown, plus a little snarky comment made by Mike to trick the crazy woman. (Both missing from the UK version)

She's the anchor, who keeps her boys grounded. She's the voice on the line that brings them home. She's the schoolmarm, who'll give you a gold star when you deserve one, but also tell you when you've screwed up. Because she knows you can do better.

She's a little bit of  Anita Van Buren, but also a little Sam Vimes. She's the Guv. She's Natalie Chandler.

And now they've gone and got me wanting more episodes so I can find out about Sam and Kathy and Ben. I started out being annoyed with Sam for not, y'know, being a Dad. But by the end, seeing them together? It's obvious he loves Ben, but resents the fact that Kathy can use that to stomp on his schedule.

Also: "I don't think she believes I actually have a job"? Maybe they were together when he was a young tearaway (as Ronnie would put it) and he's smartened himself up since then.

Just finished watching "Dawn Til Dusk." Sammy is a Daddy...

So, long story short: I started fyeahbrooksanddevlin mid-season 5; and the Matt/Ronnie love will never die, that I know. But, lo and behold: Paul Nicholls is very good at his job, and Sam Casey is a pretty awesome character. And anyone who knows me, knows my love for the Guv. So, this blog will be devoted to the MIU, past, present, and (side-eyes ITV) future.
