UPDATE On my Death Battle Predictions List

Not reblogging it because it’s long. If you want to look at it, you can find it here https://at.tumblr.com/velvetkey/with-season-9-coming-to-a-close-heres-my/2ld8pn9y0xy5 My previous prediction bingo card had Kratos VS Asura and Finn and Jake VS Mordecai and Rigby listed. Both of these matchups have since been revealed as options for the YT Channel Members Ballot, which means that they aren’t planned for the season currently (and they probably won’t win the ballot either). I’ve replaced the two matchups with Shulk VS Lightning and Luz VS Anne. Shulk VS Lightning (Xenoblade Chronicles VS Final Fantasy) Gut feeling. Luz VS Anne (Owl House VS Amphibia) Not put on the previous one because I thought it was too recent, but I’m not so sure now, and they’ve said that they like the matchup and really want to do it. All the other big cartoon matchups, that I know of at least, have something that makes them seem unlikely to me, but not this one. And here’s the full thing updated:

With Season 9 Coming to a Close, Here’s my Predictions/Bingo Card for Season 10 of Death Battle

To list them all left to right, top to bottom, and give my reasoning: Hiccup and Toothless VS Hiro and Baymax One of the ones I’m less confident in. I wanted to come up with an animated movie matchup and I don’t think they’ll do Gru VS Megamind, so this is what I came up with. That’s really it. Eggman VS Bowser Basically all of the reasons that people thought that it would happen this season. It’s the last and biggest matchup remaining in a long-time franchise rivalry, more relevant than ever with the release of Sonic 2 and the Mario movie. Darth Vader VS Obito Uchiha Gut feeling mostly. Naruto and Star Wars episodes consistently do decently view-wise, SW is forever relevant, Vader is a character overdue to return to the show. His only other matchup that they could potentially do is Saber which I don’t think would be as well received by the casual audience. Monkey D. Luffy VS Natsu Dragneel I mean, when they were talking about how they regret not using characters until their series were over and thus missed out on a lot of matchups at the height of their popularity, Luffy was the specific character they brought up as an example. I’ll be shocked it they don’t use him this season. Who he’s fighting, I’m not as confident. Even thought he already fought a different One Piece character years and years ago, Natsu seems to be his most popular matchup, so that’s who I’ve put down. Dovahkiin VS the Chosen Undead This one I’m not very confident in, but I think is possible. It’s a popular matchup using games that will be relevant forever, and Liam Swan says it’s his most-wanted now that DIO VS Alucard is out of the way. Kratos VS Asura GoW Ragnarok has come out at the perfect time for Death Battle to potentially capitalize off of the hype depending on how early into the season they do it, while still being able to include and fully go into the game’s lore and feats in the episode, and Kratos is long overdue for a 2nd episode. The only question, to me, is whether he would fight Dante or Asura. And now, I actually think Asura is more likely. Kratos VS Dante may be the original playground argument, the old rivalry, but today I don’t see them compared that often. Asura’s Wrath though? I watched Penguinz0′s stream highlights from his Asura’s Wrath playthrough, and there were multiple people asking him who he thought would win in a fight between Asura and Kratos. It seems like the two of them are compared more modern-day than Kratos and Dante are. And Asura’s only alternative is Atrocitus, a character who’s a “Literally Who?” to the more casual Death Battle audience. I genuinely believe that Kratos VS Asura is the more likely of the two matchups. Haruko Harahara VS Gwenpool Death battle have to find a balance between doing episodes that will do well view-wise, and ones that they’re passionate about and just really want to do. Gwenpool VS Haruko seems pretty likely to me as a matchup for the latter, as Ultraguy, one of the researches, has said outright that it’s his most wanted matchup to do on the show, and he’s been pushing for it for years. FLCL is a popular series, and there’s a new one coming out in 2023, so I think this is a likely matchup and one of the ones that I’m the most confident in. Moon Knight VS Azrael And on the opposite end of the spectrum, this is one that I think is very likely for views. Moon Knight is one of the most popular D+ Marvel shows, easily the most popular one that’s focused around a new character, and Azrael is his biggest matchup by a mile. We also know for a fact that the team is at least aware of it since Liam has mentioned it on Twitter. Frieza VS Megatron Gut feeling. That’s all. Carrie VS Eleven This is probably the least talked-about matchup that I have on here. I don’t think that they’ll do Freddy Krueger VS Pennywise next season considering that that’s the next biggest horror matchup with Jason VS Michael out of the way, so I think they’ll save it for a little while, and I don’t think they’ll do another vampire matchup yet. There are a lot of other horror matchups that they could do, but I think that the most relevant one, and the one that would be simplest to execute, is Carrie VS Eleven. Carrie is the book that put Steven King on the map, and is an absolute classic, and Stranger Things is huge. I haven’t even watched a single episode of it (yet) but even my subscription and recommended feed on YouTube were flooded with covers of “Running up That Hill” after season 4 came out. I think that this is a very real possibility for this year’s Halloween episode. Piccolo VS Martian Manhunter A matchup that’s been around for a long time and seems like a pretty safe choice. Piccolo is a popular character and has gotten buffs recently from the movie, and Manhunter is one of DC’s biggest characters that Death Battle hasn’t used yet. This isn’t the greatest matchup ever conceived, but I can cope as long as they don’t do Manhunter VS Vision, which is genuinely awful. Percy Jackson VS Harry Potter One of the ones I’m the most confident in. With 007 and Middle Earth having gotten episodes this last season, Percy Jackson is the most-requested novel series that they haven’t used yet, and with the D+ show coming out this year, bringing the series back into the spotlight and making it more relevant than it’s been in a long time, they’d be insane not use use Percy in an episode this year. Harry is the matchup that makes the most sense. Even if Rowling is a nutcase, Harry Potter is a timeless series that they haven’t used in a literal decade, and it’s Percy’s biggest matchup by far. Get that W Percy please- Ant-Man VS the Atom I shouldn’t have to explain this one. It’s all but guaranteed, and will most likely be the season premier. Satoru Gojo VS Makima The matchup that apparently I will predict every season until it happens. Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are both massively popular WSJ series that are compared to each other often and have a weirdly wholesome relationship with each other, and between the two JJK VS CSM matchups that exist, Gojo VS Makima is the one that makes the most sense to me. First of all, Gojo is a wildly popular and well-known character, and is one of those characters like Saitama and Giorno that a lot of casual viewers hype up as an unbeatable god. Gojo in a Death Battle thumbnail = free views. Makima I could see becoming one of those characters in the future as more of the anime comes out and it becomes more clear what Makima does and how she does it, and even without, she’s going to become popular because of simps if nothing else. It’s unquestionably the biggest matchup for both, regardless of whether you consider it the best or not, and they’ve even done it as a DB Cast. And out of the two JJK VS CSM matchups, this one is far less likely to retroactively become wrong, regardless of who wins. Rocket Raccoon VS Stitch A matchup to tie in to Guardians 3, a corner of Marvel that, weirdly, they haven’t touched on at all. Rocket is a popular character and has been implied pretty heavily to be very important in the next movie. Stitch is timeless, and weirdly, I don’t think that DB have ever used a Disney movie character. They did this on DB Cast too. This just makes the most sense to me for a Guardians 3 tie-in matchup.  Rick Sanchez VS the Doctor ..And another recent DB Cast matchup. Rick and Morty is an absolutely massive show that would absolutely rake in views, and Doctor Who is another series that’s forever relevant. Rick has a lot of matchups, Bender is another notable matchup that I could see them doing, but for no reason in particular, this feels more likely to me.  Joker VS Giorno Giovanna Obligatory “This is the season! It’s totally gonna happen this time guys!!!” matchup. I could go into conspiracy theories about how it’s weird that they basically haven’t acknowledged this matchup at all for the Champions poll, but really, I don’t think there’s a point. I’m putting it on here because it feels right, just like every year since S6.  Finn and Jake VS Mordecai and Rigby They always have at least one western cartoon matchup each season, and I’ve put down this one through process of elimination. Luz VS Anne or Akko is too recent, Ben apparently just doesn’t know who XJ9 and Robot Boy are, and Bill VS Discord wouldn’t be being acknowledged as one of the biggest matchups for the champion poll if they were already planning on doing it since they would then have to not put it on the final poll which would be suspicious, so that leaves F&J VS M&R.  Sailor Moon VS Madoka Kaname Gut feeling. Killua Zoldyck VS Akame Hunter X Hunter is gonna get on eventually. They apparently don’t want to use Gon, I think that they’re doing Giorno VS Joker so they probably won’t do the goated Kars VS Meruem, that leaves Killua as the biggest character for them to use, and Akame is his biggest matchup.  Yang Xiao Long VS Katsuki Bakugo Gut feeling again. Iron Tager VS Potemkin Probably the matchup I’m the least confident in. They almost always do at least one fighting game episode, but I wasn’t sure what matchup to put down. Nothing screamed to me as an obvious choice for a fighting game matchup. Now, retroactively, I think I should’ve put down Liu Kang VS Jago, but instead of changing it I’m gonna double down on my original idea. Guilty Gear has become a lot more popular and well-known with the release of Guilty Gear Strive, and I’m shocked that they didn’t use it at all this last season. Potemkin VS Tager is one of the biggest matchups for the series, a battle between ArcSys’ two original grappler characters. Potemkin seems to be one of the most popular GG characters as the funny big paint-eating man who grabs you by the neck and eats your health bar, and Tager is one of the more recognizable Blazblue characters. It would make plenty of sense.  But lets be real, it’ll be Liu Kang VS Jago lol.  Azula VS Cinder Fall They said that they wanted to use Azula, and Cinder is her most popular matchup. Nothing else really. I honestly feel like this is more likely than Yang VS Bakugo but I’m probably wrong.  John Constantine VS Raidou Kuzunoha John VS Raidou is a matchup with heaps of potential that became very popular very quickly, and managed to maintain a surprising amount of that popularity. SMT has become more well-known after Persona 5 put ATLAS on the map, and Raidou is one of the series’ icons. They’ve also shown interest in using Constantine before. I didn’t think it would happen last year, since Wanda VS Zatanna was happening and it fit the bill for an overpowered magic-user fight already, but I could see it now this season.  Eren Yeager VS Ken Kaneki With Attack on Titan concluded, this has become Eren’s biggest matchup. AoT is one of the biggest anime of the last decade, and Tokyo Ghoul is extremely well-known and still has a cult following. That matchup is apparently pretty close, and even if Ken isn’t terribly relevant nowadays, Eren could carry the view count.  That’s what I’ve got. Last year I was only able to predict the teased matchups after they’d already been teased, and Omni-Man VS Homelander and Black Adam VS Apocalypse, which was the most obvious shit ever.  Let’s hope I do a little better this year.
