“The Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individual”
Tumblr media
Social media can be a bad and good thing in every aspect of our lives. We all use social media to communicate with our loved ones, and it has become easier for us to contact them because of it. When we have something in our mind, we subconsciously search for it on Google to know what it is, and somehow, we get to know and see the answers to our questions. As a Gen Z Individual, I am greatly influenced by online media. Because media can influence my contemplation, it has a huge impact on my life. This impact is sometimes beneficial and sometimes unfavorable. I'm ready to make new companion ships and associate with my lifelong companions or family members through online media, and I'm ready to express my perspectives. Online media may also connect me with people who shared my interests. Social media really affected me a lot since I used it as a tool to communicate with my friends and, at the same time, get information about specific issues. But somehow, using the media can be devastating because it has setbacks, and a lot of negative information is floating around, which some people directly believe without knowing the real deal. Nowadays, we take seriously what others think about us. A lot of teenagers are conscious of the things they should post to please someone. They are doing anything to get more likes and shares, even if they know that it is not a nice choice, yet they still do it because of fame.
We can't deny that our generation (Gen Z) is constantly glued to our smartphones. Through our devices we have access to various social media platforms. We know that there are good things that social media brings to us, there are also bad things that come to us. Personally, as a Gen Z individual I cannot deny that there are bad consequences to my use of social media. I was glued to my phone the entire night. It also has a negative impact on my health because I frequently lose track of time and become hungry as a result of my concentration on the screen. I am frequently distracted from my tasks by social media, and I spend more time on Facebook than on schoolwork. Young people today use social media to make derogatory comments about others, a practice known as cyberbullying. I can also say that social media is beneficial in today's era (New Normal) because it allows me to make friends online. Different people I meet on social media also provide me with information and opinions. However, we must verify the information to see if it is accurate. We must always keep in mind that when using social media, we must be aware of our limitations. LET US NOT BE ADDICTED TO THE SYSTEM, AS IT IS DESTROYING OUR GENERATION'S LIVES.

“Digital Divide in the New Normal”
Tumblr media
We have been dealing with a pandemic for the past year and a half, and many events, including school, have been canceled as a result of this contagious virus. The government established a new normal school that offers modules to students, and some institutions provide online classes. Some students are unable to participate in their online classes because they do not have access to the internet. They have a difficult time submitting their activities on time because they do not have adequate internet access. Since then, the Philippines has had a slow internet connection that has yet to be resolved. It has an impact on society because most Filipinos use the internet to connect with people they want to chat with, as well as students to connect with their classmates and teachers. Virtual meetings can also be held by businesses using an app and the internet. Some people may be unable to understand what the speaker is saying due to a slow connection.
We cannot deny the importance of digital in today's world, in this new normal. We use it on a daily basis. We use digital for everything from studying online to working. We also cannot deny that there is a divide between digital users and non-users in our time, New Normal. Because we know that everyone is connected to technologies, one of the effects of the Digital Divide is that our access to information and knowledge is limited. Our development and growth will also be limited with innovative events. Students are having difficulty completing their teacher-assigned tasks due to a lack of a strong internet connection. While the others have a stable internet connection. They can easily find information and send files as needed. Because of this, there is a significant gap between them, with both fair understanding and misunderstanding on both sides. Individuals in much more privileged socioeconomic positions and with a higher level of education are much more likely to have access to the internet.

“Delivering News in the Present Age”
Tumblr media
The importance and necessity of news in one’s life cannot be overstated. News provides us with up-to-date information on current events via many forms of media. In today’s world, news is given in a variety of formats, including digital, physical, and personal. News circulates and spreads more as a result of modern-day technology that allow for the transmission of information in a timely manner. Printed news, as well as television and radio news, are still used to distribute information. The modern era has introduced a new method of disseminating information. News can now be distributed via the internet, where people can connect in an infinite number of ways. Most businesses today can hardly keep up with the rate of creative development, and a large portion of the devices used by businesses to communicate with their clients are already obsolete. People used to consume information mostly through newspapers and other forms of media. Making news available isn’t enough for today’s audience.
The conveyance of news in these days is a little more technological, and because to social media’s prominence, it is now the instrument that news agencies use to disseminate information. Rather than watching television, listening to the radio, or reading newspapers, most of us nowadays use cellphones or other devices to obtain information about a specific topic. Some news stations will have their own live updates of current events in a location over the internet, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media platforms. These days, it is how we obtain our information. News in the modern era escalates indefinitely as a result of its global connectedness. It incorporates an overview of traditional media’s current situation, a blueprint of what online media is, and how it might accept a part in the future of news media, just as it does in today’s world.

“Understanding the Relevance of Information Literacy and News Literacy in the Midst of Social Era”
In this time of pandemic, information and news literacy are relevant these days. We really need to have the accurate information because people today often believe fake news. We must be curious about the information we read and see especially in today's time. We should know what sources of news and information are reliable. Today, there are many platforms to source news for and we must always think about whether it is right before we share it with others. Information literacy skills have existed in various forms for a long time, and numerous national and international frameworks and definitions have been developed. Learning about information literacy and news literacy is particularly important for students to build critical thinking skills in order to assess the dependability and authenticity of information received via paper, television, or the Internet. This is a very vital ability in the Midst of Social Era, when everyone is dealing with information overload and the difficulty of judging the authenticity of reports.
The cultivation of modern critical thinking abilities for analyzing and determining the credibility of news and information, distinguishing between facts, opinions, and statements in the media we consume, generate, and publish, is known as news and information literacy. The goal of news media, especially in today's environment where social media is so prominent, is to deliver information to the general public or target audience. As new media emerges, web clients will become more reliant. Users will notice a new channel in their online media or destinations that will keep them informed about the newest news. Delivering current information is quite beneficial, and presentation stands in contrast to the past. Regardless, we should be wary about what we read in publications due to the possibility of deception, misdirection, and false data. Collecting information and conveying news may be taught efficiently at all grade levels in schools, at work, or anywhere else because it is a necessary component of literacy in today's environment.

“Media and Government: A Love-Hate Relationship”
The media in the Philippines has changed over time. In the Philippines, there are several means for news and information to reach a large number of people. We utilize social media to interact with distant relatives, as well as with our employees and for our online programs. This is how we will get the data we require. When we need to locate anything, we turn to the media. Because we need to be aware of what is going on in our country on a daily basis, the media exists. In recent years, I believe the media has exacerbated the problem in the Philippines. There is a media outlet that distributes fake news, and those who believe it have an impact. There's also the media, which disseminates accurate information and news; it's the media's responsibility in society to disseminate accurate news and information. Other journalists' reputations are occasionally harmed as a result of their information distribution.
Media generally come there when they have a problem with a particular artist or, more crucially, with politics. We can also learn more about it by searching for it on Twitter, which is particularly useful if we are unaware of the situation because Twitter is one of the Philippines' most popular social networking platforms. When a politician they dislike is interviewed on the news, Filipinos frequently take to Twitter to express their displeasure. They'll say anything at that point, such as how much they despise the government's policies. Numerous reports have surfaced of journalists being killed as a result of a trigger in their news. They only want to spread the word, which is bad, but they are doomed. There was also a time when the media contributed to the escalation of the issue. The majority of them are dissatisfied with the Philippine government's handling of problems, particularly in these trying times. Any way you look at it, media is really beneficial.
