So the last couple years I've made sets of blatantly gay Pride Norse designs (because fuck nazis and their appropriation of norse symbols) and this year I had you guys vote on which idea I drew first.
Y'all chose Odin's crows, Huginn and Muninn, and I finally finished a set!

(If there's a particular pride flag you wish to see with this design that I haven't made yet, always feel free to send me a request!) Like always, I’ve got the full-res designs hosted on my Ko-fi as free downloads for anyone who wishes to use them. Print them on a shirt, make yourself stickers, use on gifts for others- whatever.
I also have them available on Threadless for those who don’t want to or can’t print them on stuff themselves but still want something with the design on it. Each sale will also make an automatic donation to one or more of several related LGBT+ charities.
I’ll be making the Thor Bindrune designs next, and probably the Jörmungandr design I mentioned after that, so stay tuned for those. (Idk if I'll have time to finish them all before the end of Pride month- but hey, better late than never, right? lol) Hope you like these, and happy Pride!

This artwork, by the Norwegian artist Gerhard Munthe (1849–1929), is a depiction of the Norse god, Odin. For more info on the art and the mythology, read our article HERE.

Norse pagans and witches, I have a question about choosing names.
I heard about people picking names or being named by others to reflect themselves in their communities. A spiritual name of sorts.
How would I go about being named or naming myself?

Sleipnir doesn’t make sense
One thing I never really understood was Sleipnir (meaning “slippery one” fyi) in depictions of Norse mythology. Sleipnir is an eight-legged horse, the steed of Odin and the son of Loki, and he is commonly depicted like this:
Tumblr media
(image not mine)
But why would you depict an eight-legged horse like this? Horses gallop the same way most other mammals run, with all feet leaving the ground at one point, so having extra feet here doesn’t seem like it could make the horse any faster. I’m also not sure it would give it any more stable footing, since it doesn’t have a wider base.
If you want a stable eight-legged form that can reach great speeds for its size, wouldn’t you want to start with what nature has already provided? Wouldn’t you want something more like… this?
Tumblr media
(my drawing)
“But wait!” you might say, “Sleipnir was conceived when Loki, in horse-form, seduced another horse! That’s why it looks all horsey, just with extra bits!”
Well, that’s a good point, but consider that Loki as a deity was originally based off the spider, and his name even derives from the old Swedish word for spider (source). Therefore, it’s not too hard to believe Sleipnir inherited his horse half from his mother and the more spidery half from his father. In conclusion:
Spider-Horse, Spider-Horse, He does spider-things of course! Weaves a web, Makes you gawk, Riding round ‘til Ragnarok! Look out! Here comes the Spider-Horse.

A Prayer to Odin and the Blessings of Gebo
Allfather Odin, wise and strong, Bearer of runes and seer of song, You who wander through realms untold, Keeper of mysteries, bold and old.
Grant me the wisdom to seek and find, The gifts of exchange, both heart and mind. Teach me the balance of give and take, The sacred bond that we must make.
Gebo, the rune of gift and grace, A sacred pact in every space. Through giving freely, we are whole, Binding threads of heart and soul.
Odin, who hung from Yggdrasil's tree, To gain the knowledge that sets us free, Guide my hand in acts of care, To honor connections, here and there.
Bless the bonds of kin and kin, The ties we share, the love within. Through Gebo’s light, may we all see, The sacred gift of reciprocity.
Hail to you, the One-Eyed Sage, Your wisdom deep, your timeless age. May your blessings guide my way, In the dance of gifts, each passing day.

Something I keep repeating over and over again.
You must cultivate your relationships.
It sounds silly. It sounds like something that should be common sense. But I feel like I have had to tell so many people that you need to give as well as be open and recieving.
Your relationships with the Divine (and anyone) must be tailored gently. "I saw this thing and it reminded me of you" so you send a link or a photo to someone you care about? Yeah that principle applies to the Divine, too. A rock. A photo. A piece of art. You bring them.
You also sit and talk. Have a coffee. Have a drink. Water. Dinner. You share a meal. You hold conversations. You hang out and bask in an afternoon setting sun and admire the birds.
If you are not doing this, That's why your relationships with the Divine feel flat and empty. It is not just about going through the motions, lighting a candle, offering incense. It isn't just about routine and saying the words. Your work with the Divine isn't your 9-5 job. And it doesn't deserve the same cold detachment you treat your job. It isn't to pay your bills. It's for spiritual and personal enrichment and growth.

Gods manifest in many ways.
To me
Odin Allfather, manifests in rune work. He manifests in bird calls. He manifests in good books and the feeling of wanderlust. Sometimes he manifests in people I see daily, in moments of learning and in moments of leadership. He has manifested in my love for my own father.
Frigga, manifests in clouds and the feeling of handmade clothes. In familial love. In that memory of sleeping in my mother’s lap at church. She manifests in pulling cards and the sound of laughter. She manifests as those moments when my niece or nephews make me laugh.
Skadi, manifests in harsh cold, in my rage. In blizzards and understanding my own anger. She manifests in ice on windows and cold metal.
I see them as faces in my meditations, yes, but gods are also the world around us.
Just my thoughts
