I keep thinking about how Jean would've died in every other Universe except for this one and I thoroughly believe that is has to do with Neil and the road that he took. If Neil hadn't joined the foxes, Jean would've died. If Neil had run before Riko found him, Jean would've died. If Neil had run after Riko found him, or if Neil had died in Baltimore, or if Riko killed him himself, Jean would have died. Jean only survived because Neil survived and because NEIL was the reason that Riko died and the Nest was broken.

I also believe that Jean would have died even if Neil's mom never ran away with him. If Neil stayed and became a Raven, he would have been 3 and Jean would have been 4; the number so close to Death in Japanese.

Jean's survival was based on this exact road that Neil, his lost forever partner, his forever lost partner, had taken.
