DIY Dinner Party Invitation and RSVP: Fab 50′s Theme
So, you’re throwing a dinner party? Fantastic! You’ve got the menu planned, the theme picked out, decorations are just waiting to go up, guest list has been checked and doubled check, and now you just need to send the invitations out and spread the word…we are going back to the 50’s!
This is a great DIY party project that can easily be replicated to suit any theme you are throwing for your dinner party or just any party! Birthday? Wedding? You name it!
What You Will Need
Supplies:
- Black scrapbooking paper
- White scrapbooking paper*
- Plain CD envelope 5x5
Tools:
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun (optional**) *We chose a mother of pearl paper which printed in the gold look **If you don’t have a hot glue gun or don’t want to buy one then a regular glue stick will work just as well, just make sure to add a generous coating of glue.
Step 1:
These are the different templates you will be using to craft your invitations. The first set, the Fab 50’s template is the RSVP while the “you’re Invited” will be glued onto your envelopes, to complete your dinner party invitations. The templates were made in black and white, however as you will see below when printed onto the white mother of pearl scrapbooking paper it did come out in a gold look. Neat!
If you don’t want this, then use a plain white paper instead and it will print in black and white. Otherwise, you can have fun with different shades of white to see what colors it prints as.

Once you have edited the templates to the theme you want and are happy with them, go ahead and print them.
Step 2:
Begin cutting out the shapes for your record discs first, this will give you a base for your top layer invite. There is no template for this, just cut out the black in a bigger circle that the white templates. Make sure you print as many invites as you need for guests! You will need enough sets of black to be paired with a rsvp, a name tag, and an invitation for every guest so count carefully! (Of course, you can always print more if need be!)
Repeat this same cutout step for the rsvp invitations, remember the template for this one should be smaller than the black template to give that record disc look once you combine the two.
Likewise, repeat these cutout steps for the “you’re invited” templates before moving onto the next step.
Step 3:
Once you have cut everything out, (we promise there is no more cutting to do), you are ready to glue the two templates together! You will have to do this pairing for each template once more so be ready for a lot of gluing.
Remember, if you are using a hot glue gun on this step don’t go too crazy with the glue otherwise you risk getting lumpy record discs! If you are using a regular glue gun, be sure to apply enough glue for the invite to stick without lifting up on the edges.
Keep gluing until you have paired all your templates to each other. If your wrist starts cramping, make sure to take a break before tackling the rest of your templates! Nearly finished!
Step 4:
The RSVP templates will be slipped into your 5 by 5 envelopes. To complete the look, simply glue the “you’re invited” template onto your envelope and you are ready to send out your invites!
