Chapter 5: MENTAL MODELING
In chapter 5, we learned about how what the photographers mental model was all about when taking a photo. This model is created by the photographer to show you what they want you to see. From the click of a button they are in charge of how they want you to perceive the photograph. It could be something they might want you to learn or see something differently in a way that you might not have before. But what's most amazing is that they have the power to change the way you perceive something which I think is an amazing talent. I think that what was most interesting about this chapter was that we shouldn't always take a photo of what we want others to see but maybe to change the way we perceive something so we can see it through someone else eyes too.

I chose this photo because chapter 5 focused on light. The first thing that caught my eye was the amazing warm sky. It brought back memories from the summer spent at the lake with my friends and just gives me a good happy feeling. I think that because of the way the light from the sun makes a warm color in the sky it makes it seem calming and positive which makes the photo something that you picture when you think of a good summer spent with friends.

I chose this photograph because I could not tell if she was falling or sitting down since her legs appear to be crossed. I think that when photographs have a mystery and movement behind them it becomes a lot more intereting to look at.

Chapter 4: The Mental Level
Chapter 4 expands and explores more into the depictive level because it shows us how the mental level focuses more about how we are focusing on why we are focusing more on a subject in the photo or why we are not. Because the photographer can chose what they would like to focus on, we are able to see the mental picture they want us to see. For example, a picture might be deep on the depictive level but shallow on the mental level, or vice versa.

Chapter 3: The Depictive Level
This chapter focuses on the four main ways that you can change a photo based on 1) flatness 2) frame 3) time 4) focus. This depictive level shows the way the photographer can transform the way we perceive each and every photograph by the angle, frame, and so on. I think that by photographing a subject 3 or more times from different angles really shows us how each photo can look completely different. By learning this skill you can eventually see what angle is the best for the subject without even photographing it.

I chose this photo because I love the contrast between the two colors. The cool tones from the water and the warm tones from the sunset really work well together. I think that having the sun off centered made the photo a lot more interesting so you focused on the water splashing up in front of it. Being so focused on the water shows the different layers within the photo.

I chose this picture because the angle the way the photograph was taken. I angled the camera up towards the light so it appears like you are emerging from a darker place below the earths surface and trying to reach the light outside. Because of the contrast between the dark tones on the stairs and the lighter and brighter tones coming from the light outside, the brightness draws your eye upwards just like the movement of climbing up the stairs.

CH 2 The Physical Level
My photographs focused on light and how it can make a particular photo look a lot more interesting. I liked taking photos around 4pm because the light was pouring through the windows and was reflecting off of the floor from patterns in in the window drapes and blinds. This against the face or in the background of the photos made different layers and contrasts between objects that would not normally be noticed when natural sun was beaming through.

I selected this post because I especially loved the black and white photo taken underneath the shoes jumping in the air. I loved this because it looks like they are in the middle of the street with how the buildings are equidistant. This photo looks better black and white because it really helps you pay attention to the shadows and architecture. I also liked how it looked like he might be falling downwards rather than jumping upwards into the sky.

A glimpse at some of my photos hanging at Jumpman23′s (Jordan) new store in Chicago at 32StateSt. Can’t thank Jordan Brand enough for the amazing opportunity to be one of the collaborators at their new store in Chicago. In addition to the gallery, there is a collaboration tee available only in-store at 32StateSt.
