I agree the first one is the hardest
Research 2
I finished writing all my abstracts today and I honestly really struggled getting started. I wasn’t really sure how to write it. I knew it was supposed to be a summary but I was still having a hard time with how to get started and what parts of the criticism to focus on. Once I finished the first one I felt that I had a good handle on it and started to really get going on them. I found that reading through the piece first and then going back and finding what I wanted to talk about was very helpful. On the first one I started reading and picking it apart but then on the second and third I found that reading it first was very helpful.

Abstracts
Writing the abstracts really isn't as hard as I imagined. Reading and understanding the criticism can be difficult. As for writing the abstract, as long as you understand the criticism it easier. This website helped me http://writingcenter.unc.edu/handouts/abstracts/ I also looked at examples of abstracts online of other works to get an idea of what it is exactly.

So I finally watched the movie. It was interesting to see someones perception of the book. Overall I was really pleased. I probably liked it so much because I was so familiar with the dialogue and story but overall it was a quality movie. There were plenty of differences between the book and movie, but I agreed with most of the directors choices in changing the plot for the movies sake. I have to say the book was better though. This scene I linked is so dramatic I love it.

The Beatles
The Beatles paved the road for many rock and roll and pop artists today, especially bands and British acts. The Beatles were the first international music sensations, without them there would be no One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Jonas Brothers, Sam Smith etc. Focusing on One Direction, their sound goes hand in hand with The Beatles. It's obvious they were inspired by The Beatles. Also, The Beatles are known for basically inventing music videos, so we owe that to them too.

I experienced the same thing when reading my criticism. The more I found out about Pride and Prejudice, it made me want to read it again.
DUNE ABSTRACTS
I wrote my first abstract today and boy was it hard.  Not because writing an abstract is hard, its hard because I’m on my computer and the temptation to go on Facebook or youtube or listen to spotify is so strong.  I told my self i would start abstracts 3 days ago but i finally started my first one today.
BUT EVERYONE THEY ARE NOT HARD TO WRITE AT ALL.  I found my experience writing this first abstract easier than i expected.
It’s actually very interesting writing these abstracts because when i read the criticisms i learn so much about my book.  Being introduced to a new point of view only makes my book so much more interesting that I ALMOST want to read it again.

Tanya so true. It's hard because I know I have to start doing all these things and I want them to be good but most of the time I don't know what to do.
Research/Writing
I have no idea how to even start writing this thing. I have a blank word document open and minimized. Every time I open it, I stare at the white screen and then remember the more important things in my life like Pinterest and my refrigerator. I have very little motivation to do this project. I can feel the pressure building up. This project is as irritating as a mosquito bite in the middle of your back and no matter how far you stretch, for the life of you, you can’t reach it. So instead you distract yourself just like I am doing now. Really I could have been done with a lot by this time but instead I am ranting on Tumblr and making weird analogies/similes. Although…this feels a little productive because it is part of the assignment. That means I deserve another 50 minute break.

Caroline, Claire and I went to the OU library and meet Tanya and Olivia there. Here's a picture of us with the librarian that helped us. Finding books of criticism on Jane Austen was easy I just have to pick out what articles I want to use. Checking out the books, however, was quite the adventure. I didn't have a Rochester library card so I had to scheme and get one with my friends address and I ran into complications because it says Auburn Hills on my license. Anyway, I eventually got one and I had to go back and get my books. I'm happy I finally got them and I like reading them because I love Pride and Prejudice so much!

Their Eyes part one
I’m very impressed with this book so far. I love the two narrative styles. I think it gives us the perfect amount of perspective. One thing that really stood out for me was Janie’s connection to nature. She looks and watches nature as she learns things about the world and herself. Janie describes in chapter 2, “It connected itself with other vaguely felt matters that had struck her outside observation and buried themselves in her flesh.” I noticed that when Janie’s dreams of real love and mutual respect seem distant she distances herself from nature. In chapter 5 when feeling caged by Jody, Janie feels, “far away from things and lonely”. I think that nature is a motif that will be evident throughout Janie’s journey of finding her voice.

I agree. Nanny’s way of showing her love for Janie is making sure she is taken care of. Nanny probably hasn’t even experienced love or felt the need since she has had so many things to deal with in her life.
One thing I wanted to address that didn’t get brought up in the Harkness is the irony of the restrictiveness of former slave Nanny. Nanny grew up in slavery and never had freedom to choose her own path. She was required to have sex with the man of her plantation, resulting in a baby that wasn’t...

I agree. The Florida dialect is hard to read at times but I think it gives the book an authentic tone. I also love the two view points it's like the best of both worlds.
At first I was confused about the different structures that the two narrators had. One was very analytical, it was like the literature I’ve been used to (ominous 3rd person). The other narrator is Janie, who is loud and expressive and captures all the dialects of those around her in speech. It was...

I love the narrators descriptions of nature. The tree and roots metaphor sticks out to me as well. I like the symbolism of a tree symbolizing balance and unity. That's all Janie wants right? She wants to be independent but also united and loved like a tree with all its roots.
Ok, so the most interesting thing that I saw in the first five chapters of the novel was the extended metaphor in the beginning of chapter two. It stuck out to me a lot because last semester in my independent study in metals I made a tree wind chime. Trees typically symbolize balance and unity,...

I like how you contrasted the two quotes. This reminded my of Slaughterhouse Five and how Kurt Vonnegut explored the nature of free will and how much we truly have.
"The art of Medicine’s easily defined.
You study the whole world, both great and small,
Only to find
That God’s creation can’t be changed at all.
Your far-flung fantasies
Are vain; we each learn only what we can.”
-Faust
Originally, I was going to attach a picture that maybe showed the “Art of...

Reading 6
Pride and Prej This book was almost free of symbolism. It didn’t contain the symbolic colors, words, or objects like The Handmaid’s Tale. I loved this. I found that Jane Austen’s writing style is pretty straight forward. One symbol I did notice however, was eyes. Darcy mentions Elizabeth’s eyes many times throughout the novel. This is because the eyes are the most honest thing about a person. This book is about how some people can be fake and one of Darcy’s biggest fears is marrying someone who doesn’t truly love him and he not her. When you focus on someone’s eyes it’s probably the best way to notice that persons true intentions.
Eyes are also what we use to see. Eyes are what we use to judge someone on their physical appearance. This ties with the theme that you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Austen focused the most on characterization and a little foreshadowing

Pride and prej reading 5
THE MOVIE FROZEN HAS TO BE BASED OFF THIS BOOK! Elsa- Jane Anna- Elizabeth Darcy- Kristoff (both “fixer uppers”!!!!) Wickham- Hans (If Elsa had a prince)- Bingley Duke of Wesleton- Mr. Collins
I’m so excited this is to real. Pride and prejudice is so relatable to Frozen. What I pictured while reading the book was the sister bond between Lizzy and Jane. I think their relationship relates a lot to Anna and Elsa of Frozen. In Frozen, Elsa is the beautiful older sister who soon become a queen and has a lot of responsibilities and acts as a role model for her younger sis. Jane is also a beautiful older sister to Lizzy and I think Jane has to act accordingly to make her mother happy and set an example for her younger sisters. Anna is a free minded young girl like Elizabeth. Darcy and Kristoff both have bad first impressions but turn out to be good. Wickham and Hans both have good first impressions and turn out to be bad. Mr. Collins and the duke are both the annoying guy no one likes. I’m calling Disney my mind is blown.

I had the same problem starting with my book. All the characters introduced in the beginning were hard to keep track off at first. I love Breakfast at Tiffany's by the way, Holly has a lot in common with Elizabeth both independent.
breakfast at tiffany's {part 1}
Starting off, I’m beginning to enjoy the tone of voice. The author, Truman Capote is so intricate with his details and has a very spontaneous train of thought. Maybe I like it because I think that way myself. The book mentions several different characters in the opening chapters (Mr. Yunioshi, Holly Golightly, Joe Bell…)I’m hoping to be able to keep track of the characters as the book progresses. I feel so much pressure riding on this book to be good!

Reading 4
First impressions. I read that Austen almost titled Pride and Prejudice- First Impressions. Which having read the book, is a fitting title. Austen so brilliantly made the first impressions of certain characters to be total opposite of who they really are. Mr. Wickham for example, was introduce in such a charming and amiable manner, but as we learn more about him he is a scum bag. Also with Mr. Darcy, we realize that his cold reserved first impression is just his way of protecting himself from fake people after his money. All Darcy wants is true love and someone who can break the walls he has built.
