Where: Fire Fly Brewery Who: Open Starter
Gabriel leaned against the bar, patiently waiting his turn to order a drink amidst the lively chatter and clinking glasses around him. But just as he was about to catch the bartender's attention, someone abruptly cut in front of him, their impatience evident in their hurried movements.
"Disculpa," Gabriel said, his voice calm but firm as he addressed the person who had jumped the line. His eyebrows furrowed slightly in annoyance, but he kept his tone polite. "La fila comienza aquí." As Gabriel gently nudged the person who had cut in line, he couldn't help but think to himself, trying to recall the English equivalent of what he had just said. His mind raced, searching for the right words, but his thoughts stumbled over one another in a jumble of broken English.
"Uhh... sorry. Line... it starts here," he muttered under his breath, his brow furrowing in frustration as he struggled to piece together the correct phrase. English had always been a challenge for him, despite Madeline's patient efforts to teach him. But in moments like these, he wished he could express himself with the same ease he felt in his native language.

Gabriel's heart skipped a beat as he heard Madeline's soft voice, a mix of emotions flooding through him at the sight of her. He had spent countless nights replaying their last moments together, wishing he could turn back time and make things right. But reality stood starkly before him now, and he knew that dwelling on the past would only bring more pain.
"Madeline," he murmured, the sound of her name on his lips stirring memories he had tried so hard to bury. He met her gaze, his eyes reflecting a mixture of regret and longing. "Yo... yo estoy aquí trabajando," he replied in Spanish, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness. "Para la compañía de construcción de mis tíos. Me mudé hace tres meses." He paused, his heart heavy with unspoken words, but he knew that some things were better left unsaid. @madelinethompscn

Madeline had finally settled into small-town life again. Her life had been a whirlwind of emotions the last few months. Ever since she had come home for the holidays it felt like her head was spinning. With her mom and the diagnosis of lupus and having an older sister, she felt as if she was constantly spinning. Madeline ended up picking up everything she had to move closer to home not wanting to be in her hometown she decided to move closer to her cousin Amaya who she had always been close with. It had been a long and exhausting couple of months but she finally felt settled enough to enjoy a night out.
Madeline had been sitting at the bar with a couple of new friends she had made that night. She had always been a social butterfly which was one of the many reason she excelled at her job. There was nothing more that she loved than meeting new people and learning their stories. Madeline hadn't even seen that Gabriel was there until he approached her. Her heart skipped a beat at his presence before her, yet also broke in the same beat. There had been so much miscommunication with the ending of their relationship, so many things she had always wished that she could have/would change if she could. Yet, that was all in the past and there was all in the past and nothing she could do about now.
Madeline was still taken aback when he asked what she was doing there. It would be something she should be asking him, but that really was beside the point now. " Gabriel. " Her words were softly spoken in the loud crowded bar that he probably didn't even hear them. " I live here, well I just moved here. " She spoke back to him in Spanish knowing that would be easier for him. She knew his English was pretty good though because it was something she had always helped him with when they were together. Gabriel watches Lia stumble onto the court, a puzzled expression crossing his face as he tries to make sense of the chaos. He notices her confusion and awkward attempts to participate, and despite his limited English, he can't help but feel a sense of empathy for her situation.
"Um... you okay?" Gabriel asks, his accent thick but concern evident in his voice. He gestures for Lia to sit up, offering her a hand to help her back onto her feet. "Basketball... not easy, yes? Maybe... practice, next time better?" He gives her an encouraging smile, hoping to reassure her despite the mishap. Gabriel might not speak fluent English, but his sincerity transcends language barriers. @lia-lozano

Did she know the first thing about Basketball? Other than it revolved around an orange ball and two hoops, Lia was completely clueless but as she stood at the side of the court, she at least tried to pretend she knew what was going on. Football, soccer, ice hockey, even baseball she would've been fine but as her brother bounced the orange ball on the ground, she couldn't help but wish he had given her some kind of cue cards so she could at least clap at the right time.
"They just move so fast.." Speaking to no one in particular. Her eyes widened as her brother hobbled off of the court. "You need to take my place, I have to get ice for my ankle." With little time to argue, Lia found herself on the court, not even knowing who's team she was on without shirts or bibs. "I can do this, I can do this, I can-- mother fucker." As the ball connected with the side of her head, the whistle blew and Lia tumbled to the ground. "This is so not my idea of fun."

where: Penalty Box who: @madelinethompscn
Gabriel leaned back in his seat at the Penalty Box bar, the raucous atmosphere of the soccer game filling the air around him. He took a sip of his beer, his gaze fixed on the screen as he watched the players dart across the field in a blur of motion. It was a welcome distraction from the stresses of the work week, a chance to unwind with his uncle and a few of the guys from the the job.
But as the familiar sound of laughter reached his ears, Gabriel's attention was drawn away from the game. He looked up to see a figure weaving through the crowd, her presence unmistakable even from a distance. It was Madeline, his ex-girlfriend, her infectious smile lighting up the dimly lit bar.
Gabriel's heart skipped a beat as their eyes met across the crowded room, a rush of memories flooding back to him in an instant. He hadn't seen her, not since their breakup had left both of them reeling with hurt and confusion. "Madeline, o que você está fazendo aqui?"

Gabriel Braga, 28, was born and raised in Brazil, surrounded by the lively culture and warmth of his homeland. He spent most of his life helping his dad at their family's construction company, learning valuable skills along the way.
Life took a difficult turn when Gabriel's mother fell ill when he was young and passed away when he was just a teenager. With his father working hard to support the family, Gabriel took on the responsibility of caring for his two younger siblings.
Despite his father's hopes for him to become a professional soccer player, Gabriel excelled in the sport but saw it only as a hobby. This caused tension between them, as his father had hoped Gabriel's success in soccer would provide financial stability for the family.
However, Gabriel found his true passion in woodworking. He loved taking things apart and building beautiful furniture from scratch. This creative outlet brought him joy and fulfillment, even amidst life's challenges.
Eventually, Gabriel's aunt and uncle, who had moved to America before he was born and established Braga Construction, invited him to join them in Briar Ridge. Eager for new opportunities, Gabriel accepted and has been living and working with them for three months now.
Although Gabriel's English is still developing, he feels more comfortable conversing in Spanish. Despite the language barrier, he is determined to make the most of his time in Briar Ridge and continue pursuing his passion for woodworking.
