"Oh," Gabby was surprised by the young face appearing in front of her. "Why thank you, I like yours as well," she smiled. She laughed lightly when the little girl commented on her smell. "I suppose I should be flattered by that."
Gabby looked up at the parent that approached the girl and gave them a wave of her hand. "Oh, it's quite alright. I agree with her, it's nice to know that I've picked a good perfume."
Now, if an adult had come up and greeted her that way would she have been as casual about it? Maybe not, but who was she to crush this young girl's enthusiasm for life and spreading compliments?

"Oh, you don't have to pay me, dear," Gabby said, putting a hand on his arm. Though... No, she couldn't ask that of him. It was so good to have a friend. She didn't want to risk that by asking for something so... uncouth? Intimate?
Besides, she would rather not mess up this friendship over a little snack when she had other options available.
"I'm happy to help--I'd just be sitting at home working in my garden or on some mindless project," she continued with a wave of her hand, "This is already so much more interesting than any of that. Now, what were some of your ideas? Did you have any thoughts on a color palette?"

She was starting to think Tinder was a good thing and she should go on it more often.
When she got invited to a speakeasy with this date--Phillip--she was excited. It had been a long time since she'd been to one. Secret code and all, what a good time.
And it was even better because of her company.
It was nice to be on a date, even though they both knew how this night was ending. It was sweet to play along with the motions like this was something more.
"She is amazing," Gabby agreed, noticing Phillip's eyes. She shifted, pushing her hair back over her shoulder as she leaned against the table in just the right way to push her cleavage up more. Gabby picked up her own glass of wine and took a long sip, leaving a hint of a lipstick stain on the rim. "Thank you for bringing me here--I had no idea this place existed. You're proving to be even more of a gentleman than I could've hoped."

"I think keep it to the bodice. I wouldn't want to over complicated the skirt. It is a dance after all, I do want her to be able to sweep across the floor and have a good time." Gabby said, continuing to scroll.
"Maybe something with lace? I feel that always adds the right kind of element to things meant to feel a little haunting." She showed Ken one idea. "Maybe the way we leave some areas more sheer feels like the mimicking of her leg bones? As for more skeletal aspects, we can always make sure the shoes fit the bill, and either gloves or jewelry for her hands to show the bones. A contrasted makeup look as well, but that's not our job--" she chuckled a little.
"Do you have any thoughts on it? A direction we could try?" she asked, tilting her head slightly, handing the phone back to Ken. "She is your client, after all. You would know what she would like best."

"I'm glad I could help you see that perspective," she smiled. "I feel its really easy to fall into the darker aspects of life when you've seen so much of it, so I do my best to keep a brighter outlook on things and remind myself that I wouldn't be who I am now without all the steps of my journey. If you lose one stitch, the whole garment could unravel." That was a bit of an exaggeration, but it worked for the metaphor she was trying to convey. "I do understand being nervous, though. I myself get a little nervous talking to others--" like them, specifically-- "But lately all the interactions I've been having have been lovely."
Gabby laughed a little, "Perhaps saying eras was a bit of an exaggeration. I'm about the same. Periods would have probably been a more apt term," she had to think for a moment. "I was born in, oh, '33? Yes. Nineteenth century, of course," she added that part a little quieter. Though it would still be suspicious if she was born in 1933, she supposed. "And been here a good portion of it, too. The last around... twenty years? I've been doing some traveling. Just recently resettled back into town." Relatively recently. Around two years, probably? Maybe less? She couldn't recall.
It was true, he definitely didn't give off the vibes one might expect of a vampire his age and stature. She gave him a consoling smile.
"I'm sorry that people have treated you that way," she replied. "It is just terrible when we're judged on all those preconceived notions of our kind. We've all got issues--ones like us and all other people in the world--the only difference is how we choose to carry them." Gabby had plenty. They still sat deep inside her, but they didn't fester as much as they used to. Probably all those times she had gone on trips to waterfalls and would scream out into the wilderness for as long as she could bear to. She hadn't done that in quite some time. Since having the Bensons around she hadn't felt as much of a crushing weight inside her abdomen.
"So tell me a little more about you now, Bullseye," she smiled. "What do you do--are you employed?" She hadn't been in a long time, but she would admit that she lucked out falling into an old established wealthy coven and just letting that all continue to accumulate over the years. "Any hobbies you like to pursue?"

Ken seemed different than the last time she saw him. He seemed brighter--lighter. Everything about him just seemed so much more upbeat. She didn't know what the change was but she was glad to see it.
Ah, pinterest, what a wonderful website that she'd heard about but when she asked the Bensons to help her set one up they refused, saying she would waste all her time on there. Good thing she had plenty of time! Maybe she'd make Ken help her set one up.
"Oh, I like that theme, its very open ended," she said. Gabby scrolled through the images, seeing something far different than she was expecting but she loved the vision. "I do think its valuable when one can see the beauty in death," she said softly, her mind already wandering to ideas for this dress. "Right off the bat I'm thinking rib cage corset. Maybe not one that goes all the way up her bodice, but rather an under bust one? Ooh, like this one," she tapped on one of the pictures. "I say we go a different color scheme perhaps, or maybe one more like this where its a subtler element, but this definitely seems like a good starting direction."

Gabby sat with a polite nod of thanks. Ken's mind still seemed to be traveling faster than the rest of the conversation.
"Oh, how wonderful," she said. She'd heard of prom--never really been in the past but this year the Benson's wanted to go, so she would definitely be showing up.
"I would love to help," Gabby smiled. "I'm honored you thought to call on me for this project. And I'm sure with your eye for design and my way around a sewing machine we can help this young lady's dreams come true."
How fun! she hadn't worked on a project like this in a long time. And to get to do so with Ken was even more exciting. "What did she have in mind? Did she leave you with any sketches or images for inspiration, or just descriptions?"

"I don't think it's silly at all," Gabby replied. "I think holding onto those things--those old pieces of ourselves--is the most important thing we can do. It's what keeps us as we are. If we let go of those things then what remains?"
She nodded. That was understandable. She often got overwhelmed by some of the newer technology as well, but having the Benson's around certainly helped. Gabby smiled though at his comment about horses. That was a sweet way to look at it. "Some times I've been through I would probably prefer the company of horses as well. Quite a few eras come to mind."
It's a pleasant surprise that they seem to have so much in common in their own ways. "Oh, i know. I'm always worried they'll think of me as far too old fashion in some ways," that wasn't her biggest worry when meeting other vampires, though. But socially it was up there. "Of course. You certainly aren't strange to me. And so what if you are? Isn't it nice that we all aren't some cookie-cutter version that society thinks we are?"

It had been too long since Gabby had a fun night to herself. It had been longer since she’d had fresh blood as well. Yes, she would go to the Hauntley and get the lovely blood that Snow made and she loved that. But sometimes she missed the rush.
And she missed the activities that so often could accompany feeding.
She hadn’t used Tinder before, but knew of it. And it had been a surprising success, she’d matched with quite a few lovely people and one that seemed in a hurry to meet up.
Now, she had noticed the fangs and wondered if this was someone looking for the same thing as she, which she wouldn’t be able to offer. But the horn made her think something different. Either way, he was charming and easy on the eyes and seemed like a good time waiting to happen.
As she entered the Court, she spotted him looking good enough to eat. And holding flowers? Oh, she’d found a real gem tonight.
“Thank you,” she smiled, taking the lilies. “Oh, these are beautiful.” He was quick, too. How he’d managed all this in such a quick time she didn’t know. Didn’t really care either, she would’ve been satisfied if he showed up in a T-Shirt with a pack of cigarettes. “You are far too kind. And those photos could never do you justice,” she hooked her arm with his, “thank you for inviting me out. I’m looking forward to getting to know more of you—more about you, I should say.” Her eyes twinkled mischievously.

Gabby had to admit, the mysterious call from Ken was intriguing. She had agreed to be by soon, happy enough to go see him even if he didn't have an actual reason. It was nice to have friends that called upon you for help or to hang out.
As she entered, she smiled when Ken's face lit up. "Oh, of course! I was happy to get your call," she said. Though it was a little surprising when he turned the sign to CLOSED.
"I'm doing well, my day has just been a few errands. I needed a new pot for one of my houseplants, nothing too exciting," she explained. "How are you? I must say, I'm very curious about what we're up to here. It feels like you've got some ideas brewing."

"Sounds like those people wouldn't know lovely if it bit them in the neck," Gabby replied with a smile. Because she did mean it. Jessie seemed lovely. She seemed protective which maybe made her come off as abrasive or jaded to some. "You're welcome, though.
Gabby knew how hard it was to exist in a world where if you stood up for yourself you were seen as rude or overbearing. She'd been in it for a long time. So had Jessie.
"I suppose so," Gabby nodded. "I look forward to seeing more of you. Getting to know you. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me," she motioned around herself.

He startled her when he pulled away. Gabrielle just stared. He was right, they shouldn't be doing this. Her face heated. What was she thinking. What would everyone say if they found out about this? They could both get in so much trouble.
Or at least she would. Boys would look at her a certain way, so would other girls. Especially with the way she'd been portraying herself to some of their classmates this semester.
Blame the little bit of alcohol still in her system, or the rush of hormones, but Gabrielle wanted to cry. She was embarrassed. Not because of Samuel but because she'd acted so... foolish and lovesick in front of him. She read his intentions wrong and...
"I'm so sorry," she said softly, turning away from him. "I'm... You didn't do anything wrong, I shouldn't have--" she shook her head. "I can walk home myself, it's alright. I... I don't want you to get in trouble with the security guard. I can pretend I left my purse somewhere and head back out." She shut her eyes.
"I don't know what I was thinking, that was--that was reckless. I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable, Samuel, really." Gabrielle felt sick as she scooted back from him more, giving him space. She didn't really want to go home--she didn't want to walk past that security guard again--but she didn't even know if she wanted to stay here.
"I feel like I've done nothing but just seem like a mess in front of you all year," she almost laughed. "You were right to want your distance from me, I... I should have respected that."
Gabrielle covered her face with her hands, sitting in this moment, soaking in her embarrassment. "You don't need to walk me home, Samuel, I've caused you enough trouble for one night. Again, I'm so sincerely sorry."
Could she have made it any more clear that she had no idea what she was doing?

When he drew her in closer, it felt like she'd won. Won what? she didn't know. it was just this swelling feeling in her chest of pride and victory and satisfaction.
She didn't want to stop kissing him. And she probably wouldn't have if the driver didn't knock on the window.
Gabby pulled back, looking at Tom a little apologetically. Maybe she'd gotten carried away. But it gave him a taste of what he could be in for, so that was one thing. And he still followed her out of the car.
She didn't acknowledge his reaction to her home. What could she say, she'd been doing this--and other lucrative careers--for a while.
Taking Tom's hand, she led him up the walk and into the front door. Once inside, Gabby let out a small sigh, glad to be back in her own home with just Tom.
"Would you like something to drink?" Gabby offered, turning to look at him. "Or we could just continue where we left off, if you'd rather." Her eyes trailed over him like she was surveying her prey, hungry and greedy and longing. She ran a hand down his cheek. "What would you like, Thomas? Let me give you anything you desire."

"Yes, I'm sure they do," Gabby nodded. They boys probably do like it, and like that they can have friends over and Gabby won't be breathing--metaphorically of course--down their necks.
But she'd been in this home as just one person, and learned there was such a thing as too much space.
"Ah," Gabby said with a quick bob of her head. "I was young when my family first came here. It's a charming little town, that's for sure. Strange, but in a good way." A safe way, where Gabby would never be the strangest outlier. There was always something more going on that kept attention away from Gabby and the Bensons. Only a few recognized her from her time here in the past, and they had their own families to look after. They knew better than to mess with her peace.
"I'm glad you're in town though, Jessie. You seem like a lovely sort to know," Gabby smiled.

"Oh, I know, there are some that can catch my attention every time, doesn't matter how well I know it," Gabby said. "You'd think they would be easy to ignore, but I suppose that's why they're favorites."
She didn't space out on projects all too often, but enough every now and again to know the feeling. She did it more when one of the boys would come to talk to her and they'd get lost in a conversation. She's surprised she'd managed to keep working with Ken, to be fair. Maybe because part of the conversation was work that helped.
"I'm a fan of some of the old classics," Gabby admitted. "There's something about a black and white film that just feels oddly nostalgic." Odd for a mundus, actually nostalgic for her. "Though, I suppose you maybe could've guessed that about me. I am open to watching new things, though. One of my boys loves to try to get me to watch these shows... animes I think they're called? They're very interesting, and usually I do lose track of my work when watching them." But that was, again, because it had to do with the Bensons and she wanted to pay attention to things they cared about even if usually she wouldn't have an interest.
"What about you, Ken? What sort of films do you enjoy? And music--what's a top record for you?"
