Final Statement:
The collection embodied in a child’s cabinet is often visualized in toys and nick-nacks, objects collected from family vacations or from toy shops. To a child scale is irrelevant and small things can hold big stories.
Artists such as Wes Anderson apply silhouettes, vintage tones and color themes framed with symmetrical camera angles to emphasize the naive wonder created in imaginary landscapes.
The framing of this collection should tell a story about the characters I have chosen to inhabit a landscape of wonder. The armadillo, snail and turtles journey together in the desert sand under the hot sun.
In the construction of some of my images I reference Andersons symmetrical approach in centering the objects and in post production I reference Charles Grogg’s hands on approach for photo shopping.  Both artists achieve unique takes on what is regarded as vintage. Anderson by framing for in-camera design and Grogg physically cutting up his photos and using grayscale.
My finished photogarph’s titled “Cabinet Comes to Life” combine Photoshop and physical collage.

Exploring the range of this imaginary territory via depth of field, I photographed my objects based on the sketches and brainstorming for a desert theme. Cacti and toys are scaled up and down. I purposely tried to cast shadows using harsh lighting (300w LED light) to give a moonlight effect.

Jeff Koons is an artist that works in sculpture to create giant children's toys and objects. in this example he created a giant balloon dog. It is interesting to look at his work because he creates a very unique approach to things seem constantly in everyday life. By changing the scale and enhancing the colors of the objects it makes it interesting for viewers to look at. I like his approach in changing the scale of his objects to make them bigger or smaller and will use this technique in my own work.

Charles Grogg's images give a certain perception that they are older than they actually are (being printed in 2010). The two pieces shown above, "Ascension" and "Intravenous" have a unique style to which they were edited, making them look worn out and old given the black and white scale used. The objects displayed in the two photographs are both organic and non-organic, as Grogg shows plants, a telephone and a mans arm. This artist is a key reference for my ideas because of the techniques he uses to create images like these, in the way he tears and puts together pieces in unique ways, to give the impression they were photographed exactly how they appear. That is however not true. Although Grogg doesn't use photoshop, he creates similar effects simply by hand which is something I would be interested in using in my examples.

As a filmmaker and artist, Wes Anderson is thematically consistent. He centers his shots, giving the perception you could cut the image in half and fold it over. It is unique and mixed with a retro style. I have always enjoyed Wes Anderson's style when it comes to his films and I intend to photograph my work his techniques of symmetry in mind. Anderson also uses color in his films which enhance the scene and portray the childlike essence he is so well known for. Color in these films give a vintage style, which I plan to use for my own photographed images during post production.

It's important to complete sketches of your work to get a sense of what you are working with for material. Although they are rough sketches, they are helpful in getting to the final point in my assignment.

Brainstorming ideas to display the final photographs I take. Connecting what the objects are to create a narrative I will be able to write about in my final statement.

Continuing on with sketchbook planning. I decided, based on the objects I'm using, it would be best to make the background into a desert scene. I am brainstorming what colors to use and where I will get my materials to make this happen.

My first shoot using the objects and placing them into cabinet. This allowed me to work on practicing using iso, and different lens settings. Using zoom and adjusting the iso while exploring depth of field allowed some objects to be in focus while others appear vague.

Free Write:
Toys are colorful. Bright and tropical colors. All different colors. Toys have bobbling heads, makes you want to shake the table so their heads bobble up and down. Makes me think of a desert scene or the continent of Australia. Some place that is warm because all the animals are from warmer climates; snail, armadillo and turtles. All look like they were made by the same person. Similar design structures. Reminds me of home. I was given these toys as gifts from my parents when they came home from different vacations they took. All were to tropical places. Toys on a shelf, they used to be on my book shelf when I was younger. I use to play with them as a child. Makes me think of childhood. How a child’s mind uses imagination. Toys coming to life, all having different personalities.
(Practicing my statement, I completed a free write. It's just a way to get out all of your ideas before you organize them to make sense and flow nicely. It's a really rough copy but helped a lot in the process of creating my statement.)

I created this mind map to layout some of my ideas regarding the characters I chose to portray in my photographs. I plan to focus on are color, the objects, and childhood. As the objects I chose are very colorful I think it would be interesting to bring the colors out and maybe even manipulate the colors to become more enhanced and stronger. My goal will be to put the objects in a setting that represents what kind of creatures they are, for example a barren desert.

Shown above are two photographs of my collection. I will be photographing these images in the cabinet and transforming them into something more using props and photoshop. My next step is to create mind maps and story boards to facilitate my work further and get more brainstorming done.

Roku Firing... by far my favorite part in ceramics. I loved the whole process and the final product. I really like the idea that each piece comes out differently and you can't really control how it will look once it is fired.
