And even if that wasn't true, it's Bulma, guys! She knows her son, she knows he wouldn't abandon her. I'm guessing Bulma probably spent all of her last years trying desperately to find a way to go after Cell for revenge, not knowing it's already been done.
(Incidentally, Toyotaro, Capsule Corp Tokyo, Shueisha, Toei, do some sort of special where they tell that poor woman Cell got murderized for killing her kid?)
DBZ realization made me sad
so this just came to me and it sucks.  That one timeline where Cell kills a far weaker Future Trunks and steals the time machine right?  we know fully Cell in that original form drank the bodies of his victims for what power he could get out of them right? leaving only their clothes?  That Trunks didn’t know Cell existed. And here’s the sad part, neither did Bulma.  There’s a good chance she finds his torn and abandoned clothes, the time machine missing, and thinks Trunks just abandoned her without a word to go live in a nicer past. and if she DOES ever think that there’s never going to be anything that brings her the truth……  of course even then there’s the high chance she doesn’t know he’s dead and is just… waiting. for her son to come home. forever.

You know what irritated me? The arc had a way of fixing that issue right there. Remember that stupid scene where Mai shot Zamasu and Black with a sniper? Using a bullet that apparently Bulma gave her? Well, the bullet did hit something:
Tumblr media
Yup, it hit the Potara ring Black had. In the history we saw, it didn't do any damage, of course, and that ended up being a completely stupid, useless waste of time.
But remember the Toei writing of the Black Arc. Remember how their writers, different from Toyotaro, who knew how it was going to end and never bothered making the arc anything more than it was, tried to hype it up as some sort of Gods vs Ningen/Mortals/Humans thing? How they had Trunks and Mai tell Zamasu all kinds of things about how humans were able to fight gods? Only for it all to end up being a god vs god situation in the end, with the most powerful of gods winning the fight?
Well, what if they actually went with this? What if, when Vegetto's fusion ends, and Trunks tries to fight the Black+Zamasu fusion, and it's a completely hopeless fight because the Zamasu half is immortal, the Potara starts disintegrating? And they do a flashback to Mai explaining it's a special energy bullet by Bulma and hitting the Potara with it? Then the Potara explodes, leaving only a weakened, half-dead Blackmasu that doesn't have the immortality anymore, and then Trunks defeats him with his wonky Genki Dama sword, in an epic final?
That would be a stupid story, sure, but it's Dragon-Ball stupid, not whatever the hell Zamasu turning into a giant 2D sprite all over the place was. And it would give Bulma's the full credit she deserves: even from beyond the grave, girl gets the last laugh by destroying the oh-so-powerful God creations with a freaking bullet. And it would match the Humans vs Gods theme perfectly... in fact, have Yajirobe help Trunks with the final fight for extra credit.
You could end in a similar way to how we had, Trunks going to the main timeline with the other resistance members to celebrate, then they go back to a future timeline, except instead of being a future they make from scratch, it's his good old future... It would be far cooler, I think, actually showing Trunks return to that destroyed landscape that we saw on the final episodes of the arc, instead of just implying he'll be going to a timeline with another Trunks and leaving it at that. Insert a funny scene with them trying to fit all of the resistance inside the Time Machine.
I'm generally not the biggest fan of Black Goku/Zamasu Arc in Super but I'm never forgiving them that they fridged Future Bulma.
She deserved to live. She fucking deserved to accommpany Trunks to the past and see with her own eyes what her time machine accomplished, and to see who Vegeta's become.
I'm still so upset about this arc. I'll be ignoring it forever.

#this is making me laugh so hard#it's just absolutely perfect#you can't tell me they don't roughhouse like crazy#and bulla is probably the instigator for most of it#i bet they play games with names like “secret murder” and “surprise sucker punch”#trunks#bulla#vegeta I always wanted them to give Bra a "pet" except it's a pink-painted tutu-wearing battle bot, of the kind Vegeta used for training in the Gravity Room... She builds it with Bulma at a ridiculously young age (because thanks to the DBS manga, we know Bra is a prodigy like her mom) and the way she plays with her "pet" robot is by fighting it and beating the hell out of it. Cue funny times with the battle bot acting like an angry dog with Goten and Trunks.
Trunks playing with Bulla
because Trunks is way older than Bulla, he obviously plays rougher. but most of the time, Bulla doesn't mind and still enjoys playing. though Vegeta is concerned over this, then he remembered typical saiyan kids play are straight up battles so he immediately brushed the worries away.

I like a series of drawings someone made where her hair gets pointier and pointier as she goes Super Saiyan, eventually burning the hair tie and going full Vegeta hair.
I kinda like the headcanon of Bra naturally having hair more like her father's and Bulma trying to style it to hide it. lol
It'd be very in-character for her, honestly.

Complementing this: the fact that Bulma is just “Bulma” was established as early as the Red Ribbon Army Arc: her police file calls her just that.
(Incidentally, I think West City Police having such a system is really draconian for the 80s. The whole West City chapter feels off, maybe because it’s a big city through the eyes of a small-city guy, maybe because West City really IS meant to be vaguely dystopian and company town-ish.)
Tumblr media
It should also be noted that, just as Dr. Brief is called “Dr. Brief” by the general population, Bulma is called “Dr. Bulma” by common folk.
(And if anyone is curious about it: she probably got her PhD when she was 16, as she was working as a university professor by early Dragon Ball. Yes, when she says she skipped school, she meant her own class. Poor university students...)
Tumblr media
Apologies for being that annoying person but there's a common (and understandable) mistake people make in the Dragon Ball fandom that I'd like to adress !
So, I've seen many, many people call Bulma "Bulma Brief" (or Briefs) as if "Brief" was her last name. People who do that also often call Trunks "Trunks Brief" and Bra "Bra Brief". I used to do that when I was way younger too and thought, like apparently many people, that "Brief" was Bulma's last name.
The thing is, Bulma doesn't have a last name, like most Dragon Ball characters. Her name is just Bulma.
"Brief" is just her father's name. Since other characters call him "Dr. Brief", it can be confusing and make it sounds like it's his last name, and so his daughter's last name too, but it isn't ! He doesn't have a last name. His name is just Brief.
It's a very understandable mistake but I thought it'd be useful to talk about it :)

The Vegeta-Briefs family
Tumblr media
a reference from these two awesome art of Goku and Gohan's family
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm crying man. I was doing my best to finish this art and make it perfect cus I love this anime and the characters. they're just so freaking good. and it was worth it. I absolutely love how the artwork turned out.
also here's a closeup of Vegeta's royal family. and yes, the mother is my own fan design. another thing, I didn't draw her eyes cus I have this collective headcanon the Queen may have died during/after Tarble's birth. that's why we haven't seen her yet.
I said after inhaling my dose of copium for the day.

Goku and Bulma have 100% a sibling relationship. I love how Goku is always up to defending her, and how Bulma is so confident in him being up for any fight. And really, I think the key reason why Bulma, who had so many ways to fight the Androids, focused her efforts in the extremely complicated path of building a Time Machine was because it was the only way that could bring back her little brother.
Hell, I even think Bulma started to work on the Time Machine before the Androids. I imagine she would be angrily searching for something she needed in the lab, right after Goku's death, and then as she was throwing her stuff around she would find a notebook from her childhood with her notes on Omori's attempts at building a Time Machine...

I think maybe it would be quite similar to the normal timeline, except I suspect Future Bra would be even more desperate and hot-headed (because Bra herself, from what little we have seen of her, is a tiny terror), to the point that maybe she straight-away fights Vegeta to try to kill Cell (and unfortunately loses, because both Trunks and her weren't a match for Vegeta at that point).

No matter how fast Goku gets, she always catches him.
The gochi equivalent to the vegebul bath thing from the latest daima episode is Goku running around the backyard naked while Chichi tries to get him with the hose

Sometimes I just get silly ideas in my head, but I am not an artist so I can't make them into pictures that everyone else can see. So instead I reach out to amazing artists to make them for me.
I commissioned this from the incomparable @ninjaphile :
Tumblr media
This is a silly thing that happened as a combination of me writing Bulla as an absolute menace in the little holiday Truten one-shot I wrote for Lawnchair and my writer friends comparing me to Darla Dimple from the movie Cats Don't Dance.
I love it so much, and it brings me immense joy. Thank you Ninja, you amazing and wonderful artist!

I had my own idea that goes similar to that. I based it on (non-canon, but there’s no canon story that goes this far) Goku and Vegeta’s death in Dragon Ball Online: according to the game lore, they feel they’re both getting old and decide that they don’t want to die of old age, and instead have a final fight that kills both of them.
This happens around Age 801, when Bra is only 21, so I thought “damn, this would be incredibly hard for her”, and tried to think of how she could cope. I decided Bra could go after her uncle Tarble to give him the news.
The problem is that Bra needs to find the location of the planet Tarble was sent to, and that was a tightly kept secret, as they wanted to hide him from Freeza. Before he left, Vegeta told her the information would be on Saiyan planetary records, which are the most important tool on planet trading: a log of the location and characteristics of all the planets the Saiyans knew anything about.
Problem is, these records were destroyed with Planet Vegeta, so she now has to go after backups that were disguised all over the known universe (again, to protect them from Freeza). That would give the excuse for Bra to go on different types of adventure: Indiana Jones-y, Western, Star Trek-y…
The final piece would then be in the hands of a particularly nasty planet trader who liked to collect artifacts from destroyed civilizations, so Bra teams-up Ocean’s Eleven-style with a bunch of other people to steal these artifacts, with them all having very different moralities and objectives.
She initially pretends she’s simply an Earthling scientist (not a lie, to be fair), but during the heist the trader starts talking his evil shit and she gets so angry she explodes (she has her parents’ temper after all) and unleashes a huge fight that ends with her blowing up the planet, angry-Vegeta-style.
She does get the location of Tarble’s planet, but now every planet trader and mercenary in the universe knows that Prince Vegeta IV (who was FEARED all over the place) had kids with someone from a planet called Earth, and they’re incredibly dangerous. Then that would end up causing the next arc, as these enemies go after Bra, Tarble and Trunks, and eventually also Goku’s family.
How would you like it when Trunks and/or Bulla take over Capsule Corp one day? Since the Super manga shows that Trunks isn’t as tech savvy as his sister, I think they should tag-team it where Trunks handles the business side while Bulla handles the tech development. :))
That very well might be the outcome for Bulla, since the franchise has kind of established that she is not and will not be a fighter. The manga has confirmed that she is very intelligent and tech savvy unlike her brother. So her taking over the family business wouldn’t be a surprise to me.
Tumblr media
(Btw for this ask I’m completely ignoring GT where Trunks was the CEO of Capsule Corp, cause there’s a whole debate on whether or not it’s canon)
Mind you, Bulla is only like 3-4 at this point (I think) and she was able to fix a complex computer virus. However, while I find that very impressive, I don’t like it how Bulla is just a carbon copy of her mother not just in looks, but now also in skills. I kind of wish that more was given to her in regards for her character to show that she truly is Vegeta’s daughter. Have a little bit more of her father’s side seep through her, whether that is in personality, attitude, or even having her show a slight interest in battle/training. Mix her mother’s smarts with her father’s love for battle and that would make Bulla an unstoppable threat.
This is the daughter of the Saiyan prince for crying out loud! Do something more with her than just being Bulma’s clone!!
