the first time i heard this line, i was just... stunned. my jaw dropped. it felt like i was slapped hard. bec before this song, i never really thought about my dogs being gone

i have no words to describe just how devastating this ONE line has been for me the past few weeks. the sinking realization that none of this lasts forever, that we're all on borrowed time.

and the way other people change 'dog' to friend, or mom, or sibling... we're all just afraid of losing the ones we love. not just to death, but to time. it's such a universal fear. and we will all inevitably experience the pain of their loss, we will all grieve our loved ones one day

"how much do you think we can sit here before we have to move?"

how much longer do you think your fandom friends will stay in the community, before they have to go on a hiatus and never come back?

how much longer do we have left with our classmates, our friends, our teachers, our grandparents?

we never truly know when our last meeting with someone will be. there's no countdown on the top of their heads, telling us "hey! this is the last time you will ever see them! say goodbye!"

and the sheer mortality of it, the fact that we'll only be here for just a short while, it compels us to spend our remaining time wisely, it makes us desparate to embed every precious memory into our minds before it's too late, before we start to forget, before we start to fade

the way this line loops at the end, as if we are all chanting, BEGGING to the universe that we could have more time w the people we love, wishing we'll never see them sick or unhealthy or grow old

every pet owner knows they will one day say goodbye to their fur babies

every parent sees their baby and knows they'll have to let go of them one day

every child knows there's a possibility we'll have to witness our parents take their last breath

we all dread the day we'll find out that someone we know has passed.

this song is a universal desparate plea.

and it is also a reminder. to never take anyone's presence for granted. to not take LIFE for granted. to let people know that they're loved by you while they're still here and alive to hear it.
