Town of Salem AU mentioned 👁👁

Ye! I've been working on the lineup for them and also the outline of the fic itself. I've also wanted to give it a better name than "the Historical AU" but no dice on a clever one yet.

It's a ToS1 AU set in 1880s US, though there is still magic and such. It's also a Jailor/Vigilante fic because there was like one scene I wanted to write for them, and then it slowly became the whole AU. As it goes LOL

I keep also bouncing back and forth about how much I want to share/reveal on my blog. I don't want to spoil too much so that people won't want to read it, but I also really want to talk more about it.

Here's part of the lineup with heights, particularly of the four town that will be the most seen. Most of the story I plan to focus on the Jailor's perspective, but I plan on poking in on the mafia and neutral roles (Witch and SK) occasionally to catch up with them.

Also, for the AU, I've decided to see ToS2 as a prequel rather than a sequel chronologically. This is sort of relevant for the Doctor in particular, who descends from ToS2's Cleric. I started this AU in May, dropped it for a few months, and then came back to it recently to hopefully finish the fic LOL

Vigilante, Veteran, and Doctor are all pretty close-knit socially from the start. The three of them have histories together: Doc and Vet served in the American Civil War together with Vigi's father. So they all sorta knew that while they could kill, Doc refuses to, Vet would do it only in self-defense, and Vig would immediately confess to them in guilt.

Jailor, at the start, is actually more socially aligned with Mayor, Crus, and the Town Investigatives. In fact, he assumes Vigilante as the person who killed the first Town member initially. However, after a rather spicy trial, he gets socially adopted by the trio.

Also, compared to a normal ToS game, the town is very passive. There's a lot of talking and accusing, but not much gets dealt with during the day. Most of the accusing comes from Crus, who in this AU is a priest who has called himself "the Crusader". Especially when the news of a witch starts brewing, he's quick to accuse some others to get it dealt with.

I should also say that this fic won't be for everyone. I do better with my writing when I'm dipping into trauma and heavy topics (read: "The Calamity Named Insomnia", my main ""fic"" on Ao3 {it's about my and friends' OCs}, was, yes, regarding the very real issues that cause and are caused by insomnia). So, religious and war trauma are definitely on there. I'll be sure to tag everything when the fic does come up, of course.

Crusader and Mayor for the AU! Crusader is one of the designs that had to be heavily altered to fit the AU vibes. Going with more of a priest/pastor vibe for them. They certainly can kick ass in a fight, they're just subtle about that fact. Rambles regarding the AU under the cut (text only).

This makes 7 out of 15 (16? one Unfortunate Extra that gets to be the first victim in what I'm calling "Night Zero") of the list that have partial (not colored but I have ideas for all of them) designs. I have a little height chart that I'm using for future reference, but I need to fill in the other designs that I already have finished.

Regarding Mayor, he kind of reminds me of Morris from Stardew Valley, haha. About the same body proportions in my head. Meanwhile Crus gets real-life inspiration, as a treat.

I don't know if I've mentioned this in another post or not, but. Tracker... I have been bouncing back and forth on them because. Their in-game sprite is. sus. Obviously, I'm not using that design for them in the AU. But like. Do I keep the ethnicity, and make their design less racist, or do I completely detour from all of it and run into the possibility that I'm performing an act of whitewashing?

Almost all of the Town Investigatives are minor roles for reasons, so it's not like I have to mention much in the fic, but. I still like having something.

Of the Town roles, I have that and two more TIs that I have to figure out. Then I get to do the bad guys :3c (four mafia and one of the two neutrals)

Town of Salem 1 AU sketchdump

massive sketchdump regarding design ideas, silly shitposts, and other doodles for the AU I don't have a name for other than the """historical""" AU (1870s/1880s Northeast US roughly). All under the cut.

the hair dryer was unkind to vigi (working on AU designs and fighting the instinct of making fluffy hair. also made reference to this on my main with the beard being drawn similar to Hakam, an OC of mine.)

and some wip art of doc (one of the designs with the most change compared to canon. tracker will be a very necessary other example) and vet as well (who has been commented by a pal as looking like Roosevelt from Night in the Museum)

i also want the twinks obliterated, witch (but that's for the angst)

and a bonus "I made this AU back in May and they change Cons's name while I wasn't looking". However, with the ToS2 major reworks that happened recently, I'm glad I chose ToS1 to do the AU.

Thanks for viewing :D. I've had a recent resurgence of interest to work on the AU, but I wonder if I'm forcing myself to do too much prep work before actually putting things to digital paper. I want accuracy, but at the end of the day, Witch is still using magic, y'know? I do want a design for my 15 chosen roles tho. I might come back to this tomorrow and add IDs but head hurts rn
