Fancy end credits!

An absolute classic of an episode. If it’s not enough having CID looking all hot in their uniforms, then you have the brilliant pair-up of John & Reg, and Jack & Derek’s futile search for some booze to drink at midnight. And, of course, Matt trying desperately to have a nye date in the station and Andrew being 100% aware of what’s going on because—duh—Andrew’s always 100% aware of what’s going on. There’s some awkward Dave/Polly too, but everything else makes up for it.

I love how John has probably killed a bloke, but his absolute worst nightmare is actually helping Reg with a raffle at a nursing home. And the way that Reg just goes along with John when he’s happy to and does exactly what he wants otherwise is so perfect.

And now I’m about to hit s16, which I’ve been dreading. Six favourites gone in one season :( I like Paul Riley and Debbie McAllister’s hot, but that’s hardly an equal replacement.

BOULTON: Reg, there’s a car been done ‘round the corner. Might be worth checking the boozer to see if the owner’s in there.

MEADOWS: Have you got anything planned for midnight? CONWAY: What, bearing in mind there’s no booze in the nick? MEADOWS: Well, yeah. CONWAY: Well it just so happens that I’ve got a very presentable fifteen-year-old ILA malted health beverage. 

I love how Derek & Jack getting drunk together or trying to get drunk together is a set piece at this point.

RICKMAN: We’re missing everything stuck in here. SMITH: Like what? What’s there to miss? RICKMAN: Only something that happens once every thousand years. SMITH: The date changes. Big deal. It happens every day.

I wish we saw more of Vicky and Kerry’s night because that’s a pairing I can get behind.

15.84 Haunted

First ever use of different font for the titles. It immediately made me think of the “Nasty” episode of The Young Ones.

This one has a low IMDB rating, but I think it’s undeserved. It’s a clever take on the traditional stories-within-a-framing-story ghost tale format and I think it would’ve been fun if the show did more episodes like this, playing about with different genres and formats, instead of going full speed ahead into soap-dom. The Claire story is a bit weak, but Duncan’s one is particularly well done.
