A list of canonical (to me) things Gale did while pining for Tav.

- Trying to subtly set up dinner seating to encourage them to sit next to him. i.e Notices Tav prefers logs to stools so he sits next to a log everytime. (Annoyed when it doesn't work/Someone else takes the seat).

- Pretends not to hear the first few times he's called, so Tav says his name again (he is conflicted about this habit, he doesnt want to come across as rude).

- Staring (this is all but stated), my heart says specifically with his chin resting in his hand, watching Tav from across the camp a book open in his lap for plausible deniability.

- Mentioning (more than he already does) how much Tav would like Waterdeep. Oh you like plays/food/magic well in Waterdeep... He's determined to at least get them to visit.

- Minor magical improvements to camp, raising the ambient temp slightly, improving the smell of camp. Spells that are too small to really brag about, but he wants credit for doing, but people don't tend to notice. (another source of annoyance for him)

- Bragging to other companions, if he and Tav have a pleasant exchange or moment. "You know I told a very humorous tale earlier, Tav seemed to enjoy it quite a bit would you like to hear it?"

Whew, took a day off writing to reset my brain drain. This was a piece I did a sketchy concept for during Inktober prompts that I was picking at for several days but never quite got to the finish line before NaNoWriMo began.

For all the talk about how gruesome ceremorphosis is, I really thought the partial illithid transformation should have been a terrible time and the game didn’t really touch on the body horror aspects enough. Like imagine a few long rests into the transformation you get hit with a hunger condition, and only then does Emperor tell you you gotta feed regularly if you want to keep using your fancy new powers. And you can’t just nibble on part of a brain!

So here I make my tav, Aldiirn, suffer as I think he should, but luckily he has Astarion to help out like a cat leaving a dead mouse on your bed.

Next two pages are gorier so beware!

I wrote this when I was in the midst of Act 3 and it originally had a more somber tone, but then I finished the game and Astarion reacts so VISCERALLY like he’s gonna vomit to the sight of a mindflayer eating and well… I cannot resist dark humour lmao. He’s doing his best!

I truly believe Astarion’s the best support any tav could have in this situation, even if he can’t quite suppress the gagging. He’s been there already, has been living it for hundreds of years, and he’s shown to reach out to those in similar situations. He’s just so sweet sometimes aaa I love him.
