News: Saints Row studio Volition lays off more than 30 people
As reported by Kotaku, Volition, the development studio behind the Saints Row series and, most recently, Agents of Mayhem, has laid off ‘over 30 people this week’ after the poor sales of the aforementioned Agents of Mayhem.
According to Kotaku’s sources, Volition’s parent company Deep Silver was less than impressed with Agents of Mayhem’s poor performance, leading to layoffs that included the studio’s general manager Dan Cermak. Reportedly a studio with around 200 employees, these layoffs account for around 15% of the total staff.
Volition was bought by Deep Silver relatively recently in 2013, when previous owner THQ when bankrupt. Saints Row is probably Volition’s best known and biggest success, a series that encompasses four main entries, an expansion that was also released as a standalone, and technically, Agents of Mayhem.

Normally IGN reviews proper gear from well-known brands, and for headsets we’ve covered both the midrange and the upper echelon of choices this year. However, we understand money doesn’t grow on trees, so we’ve started examining some of the more affordable headset models, too. In doing so we decided to see if a super-cheap, no-name brand, the kind you see at the top of online retailers, could compete with the likes of Logitech, Astro, HyperX, and so forth.

News: Play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as Waluigi with hilarious mods
The fun modding of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues apace. First we had the GTA San Andreas mod that dropped C.J. into Hyrule, and now we’re seeing a brace of more family friendly Link replacements.
There’s a great one that turns Link into Woody from Toy Story, which is pretty cute, and kind of fits in with Breath of the Wild’s hyper-colourful aesthetic. There’s also one that turns the Steel Lizal shield into Spongebob Squarepants, just without his arms and legs (although, now I think about it, that could actually be quite horrible: Spongebob, his face trapped in a rictus grin, used to slide down the side of mountains, to deflect arrows and axes, whispers between gritted teeth: ‘Help… me…’)
For my money, though, there’s none better than the one that turns Link into Waluigi, because Waluigi sitting on a horse is hilarious.

Here's Every Shadowverse: Starforged Legends Card
Shadowverse’s sixth card set packs 104 new cards and is themed around celestial beings, cosmic conflicts and mythic icons.
It’s hitting the game on September 28 (which means September 29 here in Australia and in the game’s native Japan), so there’s no better time to check out what the new set has to offer.
I’ve built a slideshow of the new cards for each of the game’s classes, as well as for the neutral cards.

Twitter Rolling Out 280-Character Tweets
One of Twitter’s unique features is its 140-character limit. When the site was first picking up speed all those years ago, it was sold to tech-heads as a “micro-blogging” platform.
But now Twitter is upping its game. At least, its character limit game. Certain users can now blow up your timeline with massive, 280-character tweets. It all has to do with Twitter wanting people to Tweet more.
In languages like Japanese, more complex thoughts and Tweets can be made without bumping up against the limit. In fact, according to Twitter, only 0.4% of Japanese Twitter users go over the limit composing their tweets. Compare that to the 9% of English speakers who run afoul of the limit.

Preview: In Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus you can explode enemies by sprinting into them
The last hands on I had with Wolfenstein II showcased a moment that broke up the ridiculous dual-wielding combat, where resistance hero B.J. Blazkowicz wandered around a small American town listening to the residents talking to Nazis — some delighting in the new regime and trying a bit too hard, others getting blind drunk and sitting in an alley, horrified at what was happening.
Before beginning my hands on time with this preview build, I was told, ‘BJ has some upgrades because of his Power Suit, so you can sprint into Nazis and they’ll basically explode.’
It wasn’t all exploding Nazis. There were some fun cutscenes, one involving a bootlegging communist from Tennessee who lead the New Orleans resistance (New Orleans having been turned into a giant, walled slum that the Nazis chuck undesirables like bootlegging communists into). But for the most part it was nuts and bolts, and digging into the combat.

Ruiner Review
A funny thing happened after I beat Ruiner: I started having fun. My first playthrough was exhaustingly difficult. I don’t mind a challenge, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m banging my head against a wall for 10 hours, unsure of what I’m doing wrong. However, retreading the 14 levels of cyberpunk brutality as the fully powered-up version of my twin-stick killer finally let me enjoy the frantic, stylish combat.
Revenge stories tend to be pretty straightforward, and Ruiner’s is no exception. You’re a man with VCR text for a face, being told by a mysterious woman in your head that you have to kill a bunch of people who kidnapped your brother. It’s pulling from common cyberpunk material like Blade Runner, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Escape from New York to tell a bloody tale full of technological horror, and it mixes in some pretty cool, disturbing characters. Menacing techno with industrial beats suit the violent, dirty world of Ruiner well. (Look for the soundtrack to be featured on your favorite Tumblr synthwave blog.)
