Why You Shouldn't Attempt Your Own Garage Door Repair
If your garage door isn't operating correctly, you may soon find a new chore on your "honey do" list: "Fix." Looking at it, you get two thoughts. The first may be, "Well, this shouldn't be too difficult. All I have to do is disconnect that little do-hickey over there, replace that spring, reconnect the do-hickey and we're back in action." The second thought may be, "Whoa. It might look easy, but what if I mess something up? Or get hurt? Maybe I should call a technician in."
Your Costs Could Skyrocket You get up early on a weekend morning to start your repair. After watching several videos online, you're sure you have the problem licked. You buy the replacement parts and get onto your ladder.
Several hours later, after buying still more parts, you finally give up. The garage still isn't working and now, it's making some weird noises. When you call a repair technician, he asks you if you tried to make any repairs yourself. You admit that you did and learn that you made a simple repair much more difficult and expensive. "If you'd just called us first, I could have come out and diagnosed, then repaired the original problem. Now, you still have that-and these other problems to boot."
Voiding Your Warranty You've heard of this issue before, when it comes to repairing your car, computer or another item. You dismiss caution, thinking that it's just a way for door manufacturers and repair companies to make money off your broken door.
Actually, that isn't so. The manufacturers of garage doors know just how dangerous and difficult it is to install and repair these doors. This is why they put the void clause into their warranties. They want you to call a repair company to ensure the repair is done correctly. They also want to ensure that, when a professional technician makes the needed repairs, you will have a working garage door. Installation and repair companies routinely inspect and guarantee the work they have done.
Garage Door Repair is Dangerous Look at the size of the door. If you have a double-size garage the door, it is massive and extremely heavy. A trained technician knows just how to handle the width, weight and size of the door so he or she, along with your house and vehicles, will not be put into danger during while making repairs.
For automatic doors, you risk being electrocuted if you try doing the work yourself. You could suffer other injuries as well. If you mistakenly remove the wrong part, you could find a 200-pound door falling down on top of you. Protect yourself, your home investment and your vehicles and call a qualified repair company.
A Process that Looks Simple Isn't All automatic doors have several parts that connect to each other, as well as to the other end of the track and mechanism. Since you don't know what could happen, you may think, "There's the part I have to remove." Only removing that part causes other parts to become disconnected. In addition, many of these parts are under extreme pressure. Pulling on and removing the wrong part could send a cable flying back right toward your face.

Garage Door Repair - The Steps to Success
Garage door repair does not have to be as hard as it sounds. Even for ladies or elderly people, there are a few simple steps that can be made before a professional has to be called. Good garage door maintenance actually begins in the construction phase of a garage. Building the garage with sufficient space can help reduce the amount of repairs later on.
Garage Dimensions
The minimum size for a two car or two bay garage is a twenty four by twenty four foot (24'x24') space. A much more roomy size is a twenty-eight by twenty-eight foot (28'x28') area.
Garage door sizes are also another area to seriously consider. A standard size garage door is nine feet wide and seven feet high. This size works well for cars, but when trucks, suburban, or vans are part of the family fleet, a larger ten foot wide and eight feet tall door is appropriate. Also when constructing a garage, it is best to use standard size doors. Even just making a door a few inches wider or narrower will require the door to be a special order item. This can get expensive.
When building to accommodate larger vehicles, it is important to realize that the ceiling must also be higher. A standard ceiling height of eight feet matches with a seven foot high door, but an eight foot tall door requires a nine or ten foot clearance on the inside of the structure.
Garage Door Repair
The first simple repair begins with inspecting the track. If the track is not straight and dent free, the door cannot travel up and down with out incident. If a dent is blocking the way a hammer can be used to tap the track back straight once again.
Doors have moving parts, so the next thing to check is if there are loose bolts or brackets on the door. A simple screwdriver can fix this situation.
The third thing to check is if the door rollers are gummed up with excess oil or grease. Other objects can also inhibit the traveling of the door. An accumulation of dirt and other materials commonly found in a garage can test the life of your door.
And finally, rope or string is another threat to the condition of especially an electric opener. Garage door opener parts typically have to be ordered, so the removal of a string before it does any damage can be vital to preserving the motor of the opener.
Routinely monitoring the garage door parts can insure a longer life and fewer repairs through out the year. Sooner or later we all end up with a garage door repair bill, but at least if the simple maintenance is performed every few months, the door unit should have a longer life over all.

Most Common Garage Door Repair Projects
Although you might think that your garage door is a simple piece of equipment, you should know that it is made of a lot of complex parts. As a result there are a lot of things that could fail. In order to be prepared for emergency situations, you should be familiar with the most common problems that could occur.
The door doesn't open or close completely
If you have a modern garage door, most probably it comes with two sensors. It is important for these to be perfectly aligned and not to have any obstruction between them. If this isn't the source of the problem, the culprit might be the limit switch. Usually this is located on the back of the garage door opener. It comes with two plastic screws for up and down and you have to turn them to adjust. Once you made the adjustments, you should check to see if this solves the problem.
The door reverses
In some cases you need garage door repair because the door opens again right after closing. In this case you will have to try adjusting the limit switches again. If the door doesn't even reach the floor before opening back up, the culprit might be the close force adjustment unit. This problem appears as the door gets older and the springs loosen. You will just have to increase the force of the springs.
The motor won't stop working - you need fast garage door repair
One evening when you get home you might notice that the motor seems to keep running even after the door closes. This means that you will have to look at the limit switch. You can adjust it on the track or on the opener unit. Try and see whether this trick worked.
It seems to be on but it doesn't move
In case the opener is humming but the door doesn't move, it means that it is functional and you will have to check the different parts to make sure that there is no obstruction. Another possibility you could think about is force adjustment. Even though the motor may have the power to lift the weight of the door, the spring might not be strong enough. This means that you will have to adjust the force.
In order to check whether or not there is a problem with the opener, you should eliminate it and open the door manually. Try opening the door a few times to check the springs and the tracks. Then try releasing the door halfway. It is supposed to keep its position; if it doesn't, you can be sure you have a problem with the springs.
On the other hand, if the door maintains its position, most probably there is an issue with the opener. You should go on using the door manually and consult with a professional.

How to Install a Garage Door Repair
If you bought a brand new garage door, you may be wondering how you can save money on its installation and setup. If you are a handyman and have a few hours (or days) in front of you, you may want to attempt installing the garage door on your own. So how can you do so without damaging the door and paying for repairs before it is even installed? This article outlines the main steps to setting up a garage door on your own.
Gather the Required Tools
You may need tools such as a screwdriver, power drill, nails, screws, bolts and brackets to successfully install your garage doors. Make sure that the tools are close to you, and you should preferably use the pieces already provided by the manufacturer.
Remove the Old Garage Door
If this step hasn't already been done, you will have to undo the old door before you can install the new one. Start by unbolting the pulley system as well as unscrewing the hardware (springs, rollers etc.) You can then undo the track system and take off the door panels. Remove panel by panel to avoid having them fall on you. Make sure that children and/or pets are away from the garage during the process, as parts may fall down to the floor.
Set Up the Panels
Once you have installed the door and possibly prepared the first panel by attaching it to the doorway, you can start setting the metal tracks on the walls. You can then install the brackets and rollers on the first panel. Ask a friend or family member to help lift the second panel to install the rollers on the left and right side of the doorway and use a power drill to screw the hinges onto the panel. Repeat the process for the last panel.
Finish Installing the Tracks
Connect the jamb brackets to the tracks and then attach them securely to the framing pieces. Make sure to not screw these components in too tight because if the door isn't level, you may have to start the process all over again. You can then screw the track hanger to the wall to finish installing the horizontal tracks. It will need to be cut to the needed length to support the track.
Finishing Touches
A torque tube may be provided by the garage's door manufacturer. If you have one in your possession, install it. These are helpful to manually open and close the door. Lastly, pull the door high enough that you can verify one more time that the tracks are well placed and that the panels are leveled. You can then tightly screw the brackets to secure the whole structure.
Installing a garage door does not have to be tricky. If you understand the process pretty well, you may be able to do it by yourself. However, always have a technician's number on hand, in case you need help. Don't wait until you break your new door to call a professional, but rather do it if you have any doubts about your garage door's installation. Not doing so may cause injuries and unnecessary garage door repairs.

Garage Door Repair Information
Although most men feel like they can fix anything, this tends to be proven wrong more often than not. Whether it's the leaky faucet, a clogged toilet or even an electrical problem, men everywhere promise they can fix it but leave their wives disappointed and on the phone calling a technician. Fixing a garage door is no easy task and something that you should leave up to a professional. Here are a few details about garage repairs so you will know what you are talking about when you call up a garage door service company.
There are three main mechanisms of a garage door that could need to be repaired. The motor, the door itself, or the springs. These are the most common types of garage door repairs people have to make they are all very important pieces that allow your door to open and close. If you are having trouble with your garage door opening or closing, there are a few things to check right off the bat.
First, make sure the motor on your door is plugged in. If it is plugged in, try plugging something else into the same outlet to ensure the circuit has not been tripped. Second, check to make sure the sensors have not been bumped or something is not blocking them. The two garage sensors must point at each other, a red dot will verify they have not been bumped. Third, check to make sure the metal track your door runs up and down and the wall brackets are tightly secured to the wall. Last, you will need to check on the springs. Check both springs and make sure the tension is tight on both. If one is broken, do not attempt to fix on your own. There is a risk of the spring snapping leaving your garage door to come crashing down on you or your possessions. Leave the spring repair to a technician who has experience replacing them. As heavy as a door can be, you do not want to be responsible or get hurt.

When Should You Get Your Garage Doors Serviced?
Garage doors are one of the largest home appliances, and while it doesn't require constant attention it's important to keep up annual maintenance to avoid expensive fixes down the road. While homeowners can fix many of the minor maintenance and inspection items there are situations where you should contact a professional to conduct more complicated services. Below are signs and tips of when you should get your garage doors serviced or call on the professionals to do an annual check up.
When do you need to have your garage door serviced?
If the door must be forced to move at any point in the cycle of opening or closing, it is time for service.
If it's not balanced. To test, manually open the door half way, it should stay in place. If it shuts on its own it is not balanced and it's time for service. Check the balance of your door at least once a year.
If it's making excessive noise while opening or closing.
If it has been more than 2 years since the last service call.
Some of the more serious issues or items only a professional should handle include the below, afterall safety is key!
Visual Inspections that includes examination of springs, cables, rollers, pulleys, and mounting hardware. Examination of each component for signs of damage and wear.
Cable examination for fraying
Lubrication of moving parts like hinges, springs, rollers, door hinges, rollers, and tracks.
Checking the balance to prolong garage door life. If neglected it is the catalyst for most of the damage. Lack of balancing and proper maintenance will eventually result in the cable jumping off the drum, door ajar in the opening, stripped gears, hinge separation, folding and cracking panels, failing circuit boards, loud excessive noise, or operator separation from door. Appropriate repairs are then made.
Checking the tracking and ensure proper mounting, replacing fasteners and hardware where needed. An adjustment of the tracking and ensure proper mounting of the system, tighten and replace any loose or missing fasteners, adjust the torsion or extension springs tension, adjust the force and limit settings to ensure safety settings are correct.
If you continually ensure you are properly servicing your garage door, in the long run you will save money on fixing issues you can prevent, be safe by making sure professionals handle to more advanced garage door fixes and you will have longer lasting garage doors. It's a win-win!

Finding a Garage Door Repair Service Company
At times, garage doors don't always work the way they are meant to, which is such a hassle once a problem arises at an unexpected event. It is best to keep a maintenance schedule on a regular basis if you want to ensure that the garage protects your car and keeps intruders out. However, not all problems encountered with the garage are always the same. So what are these problems? What are the signs that tell someone it's time to do some maintenance? And what are the solutions?
Symptoms and Solutions
Failure in trying to open your garage door and closing it signifies that there is a problem with the door springs or opener. Make sure to check what kind of opener or springs the garage has installed before fixing it. If it has an electric opener, it may just need to be reprogrammed.
Another symptom is a sticky door, which means two things, dirty tracks (clogged or unaligned), rollers (metal ones), and hinges that needs lubricating.
A falling garage door indicates that it is certainly not in good condition. If it was, it should have remained rather than fall. This signifies worn out springs.
When operating the door, it makes a load of racket. Who would want to have such a noisy door especially when coming home late at night? Often times, the opener causes the noise. There are three types of openers; the screw, chain or belt drive. The noisiest out of the three is the chain drive opener while the belt drive is quiet for the most part. The screw on the other hand doesn't make much noise, but once they do it probably needs to be lubricated. If this seems to be working properly then maybe it's an unbalanced door. To verify, pull the emergency door cord to manually operate the garage. Raise the door halfway then release, it shouldn't move if it's stable; If not, then there really is a problem. If the garage door is still noisy then it's time to examine the springs and hinges. Springs that run down the side of the garage door may easily be replaced. While springs that are on top of the door (which are known as torsion springs) should only be replaced by a professional. Never attempt to make the replacement on your own because it is highly dangerous to do so.
Meanwhile, hinges that make grinding noises should be replaced, but only after unplugging the unit and must be handled by a technician. If it's squeaky hinges, then it just needs oiling. Another cause for noisy garages is the bearings in the pulley or the rollers. Again these should be replaced by an expert.

A Simple Guide to Garage Door Repair
Your garage door may just be one of the many access points to your home, but it can absolutely do a lot beyond that. It can improve the value and look of your home, increase your garage uses, take care of the items stored in your garage, and make your garage the safest place to be for your vehicle. That is why it is important to keep it always in good condition. However, just like the other access points in your home such as your back door and front door, it can also get damaged after some time. When this happens, you should take immediate action to repair it. Otherwise, theft, inconveniences, accidents and other unfortunate events may arise solely because you fail to repair your broken door right away.
Garage door repair may not be as complicated as you think. Even if you are not mechanically inclined, you can perform the task yourself. Begin by knowing what the problem is. Is it a garage door that won't open or close a door that falls after releasing, or a door that sticks when closing or opening? If it's won't open or close, simply inspect on the keypad to see if the garage door opener is functioning. If it's the cause, all you need to do is to reprogram the opener.
Next, if the garage door sticks when opening or closing, check on the hinges and metal rollers. They may just need lubricating. Also, check on the tracks and see if they are clogged or dirty. If they are, try cleaning the tracks with a normal household cleaning liquid and then lubricate them afterwards. Lastly, if the door falls after releasing, it could be due to worn extension springs. If that is the case, simply replace your garage door springs with new one.
Those three mentioned above are among the most common garage door problems. If you will notice, the two main parts that could be the main culprits of your door failing to function properly are the tracks and the springs. The tracks, for one, play a vital role in the closing or opening mechanism of your door. To hold them in place, metal brackets are used. Now, when your door stops working, check on these brackets to see if they are loose. If they are, slowly tighten the bolts or screws. But if not, take a look at the tracks themselves because they might be bent, dented, or knocked out of shape.
To resolve this, try knocking the tracks back into shape by using a mallet. But if this does not work, you better get replacement. As for the springs, the solution varies on the type of spring used. Often times, resolving spring problems just lie mainly on doing some adjustments. But if your door uses a torsion spring, better employ a door repair professional because you could get yourself severely injured when you try to resolve it the wrong way.

Preparations For Garage Door Repair
The use of home garages is no longer confined to simple car parking or storage of unused items. They are now essential additions to houses and serve multiple purposes. Because of their increased value, garages now require more careful maintenance. One of the most common aspects of this maintenance is garage door repair. This is particularly true not only because garages are prone to damage but also because owners cannot afford these parts of the garage to remain broken. While garage repair is an essential maintenance procedure, there are some steps that need to precede it. In particular, there are preparations that you should take before engaging in the repair. Here are some of them. Learning the Mechanics Repairing a garage door cannot be possible if you do not fully understand its parts and mechanism. This is why the first step in preparing for this repair is to learn the fundamentals. You must learn the different parts of the door, which can be generally classified as either a moving or a non-moving part. In broad terms, though, the door can be broken down into two major parts: the opener and the actual door. Aside from this, you must also be familiar with the mechanics of the door, which involve the rolling of the door on metal tracks through the aid of heavy springs. Understanding the specific details of this mechanism may be necessary for some cases of garage repair. Examining the Tracks After getting to know the fundamental concepts of the garage door, the next step is to check the door for issues. To begin, you should examine the tracks to which the actual door rolls on. One important aspect to evaluate is the condition of the mounting brackets. If these brackets are only loosely holding the tracks in place, then there is a need to tighten certain bolts. The tracks must then be checked for malformations and dents. In addition, you need to determine if the tracks are leveled and perfectly aligned. You should also look for dirt, grease, and any debris that may cause an obstruction along the tracks. Finally, the lubrication of the tracks must be examined. If closing or opening the garage door causes a creaking sound, then that is an indication that the tracks need to be lubricated. Checking the Hardware Once the condition of the tracks has been evaluated, it is time to check the other mechanical parts of the garage door. In particular, you need to pay attention to the springs and hinges. You need to check whether or not these parts are tightly wound. If either side of the door is sagging, then that is a sign that the hinges are loose. The springs are meanwhile loose if the garage door does not open or close completely. On the other hand, enlarged screw holes are an indication that the bolts are not tightly fitted to their respective places. This issue can be remedied by replacing the old screws with larger ones so that the enlarged space can be filled appropriately. A technician at Grapevine Garage Door Repair, will gladly help you with this.

Garage Door Repair - Important Things to Consider
If your home has a garage door, it is unlikely the thought of maintenance ever comes to mind. Most of us just go about our day - press the button, door opens, we drive in, press the other button, and the door goes down. Simple, effortless, thoughtless. What happens the day you press the button and your door doesn't open? Panic time! How do you get into your house? Where do you park the car? Many of you are so used to entering and exiting your house through your garage that you forget you even have a front door. Or if you do remember you have a front door you have no idea where you house key is. You say, "my house key is my garage door opener"! Well, don't panic. I thought I would share with you some tips to consider before you have issues or if you are currently experiencing problems with your door. You can trust that what you read is accurate, as I have extensive knowledge of garage door repair. There are a few common things that are the cause of garage doors malfunctioning. In the next few paragraphs I will discuss them and what you should do. If you ever experience the panic-inducing scenario I mentioned before where you press the remote and nothing happens, there are a few likely causes. The first thing to check is if your door functions properly by pressing the wall-mounted keypad or button inside your garage. If your door opens with this button you probably need to reprogram your remote. Sometimes they just stop working for no apparent reason, but this is rare. If you find that the button inside your garage also does not make your door open or close, first check and make sure the power to your house is not out. If you have power, there is possibly a problem with your motor. In this case, you should contact your local garage door repair expert to come inspect your motor and determine what the issue is. They should be able to get you fixed up quickly. If your door is sticking or catching when it goes up or down, this is likely due to your metal rollers and hinges needing a re-application of lubricant. Like any other moving object with hinges, your garage door needs to be lubed in order to keep the moving metal parts operating smoothly. Dirt or grime build-up in the tracks can also cause your door to stick or catch. While this is a task you could try yourself, you will be much better off if you contact a local garage door repair expert to perform the correct procedures in the right order to ensure you get the longest lasting benefits. Some houses have manual (non-motorized) garage doors, and will find that over time they become harder to keep up in a raised position without holding on to the door. This is certainly not an ideal situation! This is likely due to worn out extension springs, which have lost their tension and can no longer support the weight of the door. Warning: Do not try to replace these yourself! This procedure is very dangerous as these springs are very powerful and can cause some serious damage to you or your stuff in the garage. Call a local garage door repair specialist that knows what they are doing to come perform this work for you. As you can see, with most instances I suggest you contact a professional. There are several components to a garage door and unless you are trained in working on them it will usually cost your more to have someone undo what you have attempted to fix yourself than to call a professional in the first place. Most importantly, make sure to properly research local companies in your area. Finally, be sure to: Pick a company that has been in business for a long time as they will likely understand the industry best and have some little tricks up their sleeves that can save you money. Work with someone that will send their own insured and trained technicians to your home, not subcontractors that they have little or no control over. Choose your company carefully by seeing what other customers have said about them. I hope you found this information helpful, and remember - most of you do have a front door too! Larry Conte runs Aaron Overhead Door, a family owned and operated business since 1968. His expertise with anything regarding garage doors or security gates is well regarded in the San Jose and Monterey, CA areas

Choosing a Garage Door Repair Service in the Dallas and Fort Worth Area
Garage doors are something we use often and tend to not really think about... until they stop working. That's when it might occur to you that a garage door is actually the biggest moving piece of equipment in your home. It's a giant, heavy sheet of metal, moving over your cars, your pets and your kids. When your garage door isn't working properly, it's inconvenient at best and downright dangerous at worst. The dangers of choosing a bad garage door repair service in Dallas and Ft. Worth You may think that all Dallas and Ft. Worth garage door repair services are created equal, but that's not the case. You've got to be careful in making the choice. Otherwise, you could end up with multiple other problems that would've been prevented by choosing the correct service. If you get the wrong repair service in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area, you may very well end up with somebody who's inexperienced and doesn't know how to do the job correctly. They may use inferior parts. A disreputable company might overcharge you for repairs, or even worse, break other things on your garage door and tell you that those need repairing as well. If the service you choose performs the job incorrectly, then you might be calling somebody else in a few weeks when your garage door has the same problem. Or, even worse, your malfunctioning garage door could damage a car or injure your kids or pets. Don't let yourself become a victim. Here are a few steps you can take to make sure you get a solid, reputable garage door repair service in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area. See how long they've been in business in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area In the days of Internet businesses, a business's age seems to have lost the importance it once had. However, with garage door repair, you're looking at an industry with high turnover. If you go with a guy who's working out of the back of his truck, then he might be out of business when something else goes wrong. Even if you've got a warranty, if he's out of business he won't be able to honor it. Find a garage door repair company that's been in business awhile and has a good reputation in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area. That way, chances are good that not only will you get a company that can do the job right, but they'll also be able to back up their work and provide other repairs in the future. Check with the Better Business Bureau The Better Business Bureau is always a good place to check for a business's reputation. You'll be able to find out if they've had any complaints filed against them and why, which can help you greatly in making a decision. Also, you'll be able to find out if previous customers have had good things to say about them. Get multiple estimates for garage door repair in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area "How much will it cost?" is the first question everybody asks when faced with a repair. Because each garage door is unique, it's difficult to have a flat price without a thorough inspection. It's best to get at least three estimates for how much your garage door repair will cost. Once you do, pick the estimate in the middle. It's true that you get what you pay for, which is why you wouldn't want the cheapest option, but you also don't want to get overcharged, which is why you should avoid the most expensive option. Don't leave the safety of your home and family up to somebody with no experience or reputation. With a little bit of research, you'll be able to find the best garage door repair service for your needs in the Dallas or Ft. Worth area.

Keep Your Home Safe With Professional Garage Door Repair
A garage is more than just a place to keep your car safe and to store some tools and other supplies. In most homes, the garage is another vital entry point into the house, and therefore must remain secured at all time. This is why problems with the garage door should never be left till later. Also, if the problem is severe, it should be taken care of by a professional. When their garage doors jam or break, some people simply make temporary repairs like boarding up the broken areas. They think that as long as their doors look normal, no thief would ever think about testing their garages. However, this is where they're wrong as most thieves consider garages as good places to break into. A weakened door or unsecured hinges can turn your garage into a haven for intruders. How Can You Secure Garage Doors? Problems with the doors to your garage don't just pop up suddenly; usually, they have warning signs that tell you something is wrong. If your doors close slowly all of a sudden, or make loud noises, then something is up. It pays to look over the doors every now and then to make sure all the parts are in top shape. If the noises are caused by particles or rusty hinges, then a little maintenance care is in order. However, if the source of the noise is a mystery to you, professional repair services should be called. It's better to repair any problems as they happen, or else you'll end up with a huge inconvenience in your hands that will cost a lot to repair. Partner up with a garage door repair service that has wide availability hours. If you can, get one with 24 hour service. Your doors can give way at any time and you're in for a load of trouble if you suddenly have a garage door that won't close at 1 am. While emergency repair services are more expensive, it's a small price to pay in exchange for your security and safety. Consider upgrading your garage doors as a whole. If you find yourself calling your repair service provider, it might mean that your door parts have reached the end of their lifespan. Instead of burying yourself in frequent repair bills, consider a complete overhaul of your garage. It's an investment worth making, because there's nothing more important than your peace of mind. With everything in top shape, you won't have to worry about it breaking in the most inconvenient of times. To find a company that offers garage door repair around the clock, all you need is to search for providers through the internet or yellow pages. It pays to inquire about 24 hour services or complete garage overhauls so you can keep not only your garage, but your entire home safe. Looking for experts to solve your garage door repair jobs? Visit our local service providers website for garage door repair near you.

Install Traditional Carriage Garage Doors in Your New Home
The look of the classic carriage garage doors is very popular in new home construction. Prior to the invention of the overhead door almost all garage doors were very similar to the carriage design. Basically the two doors that make up the garage door system were hung on hinges located to the sides of the garage opening. The doors swing together to make the door close. This style of door has been used for more than a thousand years. However there are lots of problems with the design.
Traditional carriage garage doors are not really very good at keeping the elements out of any structure. In addition it is very hard to adequately secure the doors from forced entry. With the invention of the over head door the use of the traditional carriage garage doors design essentially ended. However the architectural appearance and design is very appealing to the eye. Many of the top garage door manufactures have designed over head doors that give the appearance of carriage garage doors but with all the benefits of a modern garage door.
Several garage door manufactures have specialized in creating the look of carriage doors using the standard garage door format. Some manufactures use standard rolling panel construction that has a carriage door pattern designed into the garage door. Using modern materials especially steel will make this type of garage door both secure and very durable. The use of solid one piece overhead garage door construction gives the carriage garage doors an authentic look. This older style cantilever door opens outward at the bottom and rotates upward as on solid door. This method of construction works well when using an all wood door construction.
The top carriage garage doors manufactures offer wood finish carriage doors as well. The use of a veneer plywood base over standard steel construction gives both the fine look of wood while giving all the benefits of standard construction including polyurethane foam insulated panels that provide a high R-value insulating factor. Top choices for wood veneer or coverings include redwood, cedar and hemlock. Many companies can provide an aged look to the door to further accent its looks. In almost all cases natural wood surfaces will require far more care and maintenance.
Traditional carriage garage doors construction is available for people who really want the real deal. These companies build custom wood garage doors using time proven designs. These wood doors can be designed to open manually or with specially designed automatic door openers. Due to the weakness of the design many of these custom carriage garage doors require adjustment on a regular basis. As with all wood doors they are very good looking providing a great accent to any home.
Carriage garage doors provide a beautiful touch to any home. You can find many great designs on the many manufactures websites. Estimated garage doors pricing for carriage garage doors will range from $700 for doors using standard construction to more than $3000 for a custom built garage door. It really does pay to spend the time to do a good job of shopping around before your buy. It is the best way to find the lowest garage doors prices.

Home Garage Doors Repairs and Services
Mechanical garage doors can be tricky sometimes. If it is an older door, the motor can blow out or the chain can come off track. This is why there are repair services that can come straight to your house to help you with your garage door repair.
Repairing a garage door is kind of an off subject. There are professionals that specialize in the repair and building of such machines. There can be repairs that need to be done that you didn't even know existed. You may think there's a problem with the motor when in actuality it is just a loose wire or a sensor being accidentally covered over by a piece of debris.
Repairs can be simple like the above mentioned or they can be a little more difficult. A well-used garage door is more prone to blowing out. They can take a beating but after time they all start to go out. Having a repair person come over and look at it can save you the time and money of going out and buying a new one of it is fixable. A system repair person can fix these magically as they just may need a new part or to be tightened in certain areas.
If you do need a new motor then the repair person can suggest where to buy one or offer you a company discount on a new one. You don't have to spend the extra added money when it can be easily avoided.
If the door or glass in the actual garage door is broken then a repair person may be able to fix it on the spot. Glass repair is pretty simple to replace. If it's more of a hole or a giant dent in the door then they might have to take it in to try and fix it. The least amount of work they would have to do on it would be to straighten out the dent enough so that it could be retracted and lifted into the open position without scraping the motor.
If you just need a simple clicker repair or a code box repair then the person will come and test out what is wrong mechanically or with the computer and they will fix it there or take it in with them for reprogramming.
A garage repair service knows all the ins and outs of the garage door business. They can make repairs on different brands and models because of their experience in the field to make sure that your satisfaction is met.

Since the life of the door is simple, the good news is that garage door repair is also quite simple. However, in some, rare cases it might be worth changing the door instead of repairing it. For all other cases there are some tips that will help you.
The quick fix
In case you find your garage door acting funny, you can be sure that it is time for maintenance. You don't have to panic; you should try some basic repair options instead. The first thing you have to do is to check the tracks and the rollers. If you don't know when the last time you gave them any thought was, it means that this is the time to do so. You will have to clean them and add some lubricant.
Make some silence
Although you may not even consider this option when you have the door installed, with time it can become noisy, which is especially annoying for the people who need to sleep near or above it. Luckily, in the majority of the cases it is enough to add some lubricant to the moving parts. In case they are rusty and seem to be beyond repair, you should change them and the noise will be gone.
Garage door repair in freezing cold
Most people appreciate their garage the most on the coldest days of the year. On these days you need to open and close the door quickly, but something may seem off. Because of the moisture and the low temperatures, the door may appear to be a bit uncooperative. Believe it or not, it is possible for the door to freeze to the floor. If there is only thin ice connecting the door to the floor, usually it breaks when you open it.
However, if this doesn't happen, you shouldn't think that you need garage door repair, but you shouldn't force the opener either. In case you go on hitting the button, it is possible that you will end up with a burned out motor, stripped gears or broken coils.
Instead, you will have to do the work. Use a blow drier or heat gun to melt the ice. De-icing products will also do the trick. If you are sure that you won't damage the door, you could also use a flat shovel to break the ice.
The skilled (and lucky) people will manage to open the door and in this case make sure to clean all water and ice from the spot where the floor and the garage door meet. This way you can ensure that the garage door will open the next time you need it.
In many cases homeowners think that they need a professional, but with a bit of maintenance they can avoid repairs. There is a lot they can do even without the expensive help of a repairman.

Garage Door Repair for Different Materials
If your door is in need of repair, the first step is figuring out what is broken. This problem varies depending on the type of material that your is made out of and in what fashion that material was crafted. Generally, your door is probably made out of steel, wood, aluminum, wood composite, or fiberglass. Each kind of material comes with its own set of common problems and by deducing which one applies to you, the repair can go a lot quicker.
Insulation
Not all are insulated, and there are many different kinds of insulation. If your insulation needs repairing, you could be wasting energy as well as letting sound and other annoyances into your garage and home. Insulation seals the door away from the outside. Many people store things in their garage. If your insulation has deteriorated, everything in your garage could be at risk from the elements outside. Determine the type of insulation that you have before you get quotes on repairing it.
Panels
Your door repair might depend on replacing the panels in your door. Garage door panels can become worn out from weather damage or from play (such as kids bouncing a ball against the door). They can also break due to automobile damage. Sometimes the windows that are set into panels can be broken. The cost depends on whether the panels are made of steel, aluminum, wood, wood composite, or fiberglass. Each material has a different cost. If this isn't the first time you've had to repair one or more of the panels on your garage door, you might consider using a different material and replacing the door all together.
Mounting Bracket, Roller, and Hinge
These components are relatively easy to fix and generally less expensive than other parts. The mounting bracket holds the track to the wall. Occasionally, your repair might be as simple as tightening the bolts that hold the mounting bracket. The hinge is the part that bends when the door rolls up along the track. The rollers are set into the track and roll back, pulling the door up onto the ceiling of the garage. The rollers and the hinge are a bit more difficult to repair on your own. There are springs involved in these parts that hold a great deal of pressure. It can be dangerous to try, and fix on your own. If this is the problem, it is definitely better to call on the help of a professional.
The Track
If your track is the problem, there's a good chance that you will have to replace it. Repairing part of the track on your is difficult because it is usually one large piece, so the parts on generally sold on their own.
Simple Garage Door Repair
On rare occasions, the fix is as simple as replacing the garage door opener. Before you go spend too much time trying to figure out what is wrong with your garage door, make sure that your garage door opener is working properly.
