how do you think Double D would react with someone being genuinely patient and reassuring with him? (Given your hcs about his parents, ofc)

i'm imagining edd to be very mistrustful of people as a teen/young adult. even if it's subconsciously i feel like he'd have trouble believing that someone could actually accept, care about and love him, especially unconditionally. he wants nothing more than for those things to be true but his brain really fights him on it. which could result in him being kinda clingy and needy; he's very much one of those people who needs a lot of reassurance. that's also a major component of ocd which obviously i believe he has. i also once made a half-serious post about eddy possibly having bpd but the more thought i've given it i would honestly say it's more likely for edd to develop bpd than eddy.

**i'm not a psychologist and we're talking about cartoon characters so take my humble opinions with a grain of salt**

but yeah to me a lot of the risk factors are there and it kind of encompasses many of the other hcs i have for him. i'm not fully committed to that hc yet but i've seen at least one other person mention edd having bpd so i'm not the only one who feels like it's possible.

all that aside, i think being affirmed in that way by someone he trusts wholeheartedly would drive him to tears and hopefully he could come to accept the sentiment at face value without his ocd (and/or bpd) ripping it away from him. it would take a lot of work on his part and would be a rough ride but he'll get there eventually.

i do feel like he'd have a much easier time accepting something like that from ed, since ed is very genuine and isn't really the type to deceive someone, especially his friend, like that. ed isn't afraid to show affection whether it be physically or verbally and it would seem he never gets tired of doing so. he has a complex relationship with his sister where despite her being his tormentor and causing him a lot of pain and misery, he still loves her and it shows in his loyalty to her and innate instinct to protect her. (we could debate whether he does those things out of actual care or for self preservation, but for the sake of argument i'm willing to believe he genuinely loves her because he's just that big hearted). i believe edd knows these things to be true too and knows deep down in his little palpitating heart that if anyone could love him and support him unconditionally, it's gonna be ed.

eddy's a tougher nut to crack, but even with his baseline of insincerity and general sort of aloofness, i don't think in reality eddy is like.... ruthlessly cruel - once again, especially not toward his friends and especially as they mature. but his actions don't reflect that a lot of the time and he of course has trouble expressing his emotions and struggles to take things seriously. it's going to be hard enough to get eddy to admit to having "sappy" feelings, much less to get him to reaffirm anything to that effect on a semi-regular basis. but that could actually be beneficial to someone like edd, since reassurance seeking is counterproductive for people with ocd. eddy's "i told ya once, i ain't sayin it again" attitude could be helpful for edd in learning to live with the discomfort of what he views as "uncertainty".

as usual they all need each other and are the most important people in each other's lives and nothing is going to change their love for one another. for as annoying and needy and neurotic as edd is, when it's all said and done, his friends will do whatever it takes to make sure he feels loved and appreciated as much as they can.

unbeknownst to the other kids (including ed and eddy), he still has the doll (in mint condition) and keeps her for when he's having a horrible and stressful day

Ok hi sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I plan to make an SFM dump here soon but I need to talk about the hit Cartoon Network show Edward Eddward and Edward real quick because I discovered something revolutionary and I need to post it everywhere

So there's this Ed Edd n Eddy comic in one of Cartoon Network's Block Party issues called A Spoonfull Of Ed and the plot's about Edd making a helmet that basically beats the shit out of you for eating sugar. To test it, he puts it on Eddy and offers him a piece of cake -- wedding cake -- with adults on it -- most likely his parents -- and also there's a dog for some reason. I've never heard anyone talk about this.

You also can't hit me with the Lunchroom Rumble logic of "it doesn't count, it's not made by AKA" as this comic was written, drawn and inked all by staff members of the show (those being Jono Howard, Cory Toomey and Angus Bungay respectively) so this is serious territory we've found ourselves in and somehow it's just slipped under everyone's radar for 20 years.

Nobody ever mentions the canon detail of Rolf's house having a basketball hoop on the garage door. It's really sweet (especially cause he presumably plays basketball mainly with Kevin)
