With the F1 Movie release lingering closer and closer, it’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation.

Forgive me for going all feminist on you (I’m not sorry), but have a seat and let’s chat, yeah?

Let’s discuss the negative impact this movie is going to have on women in motorsport as well as female fans, shall we?

Of course the obvious conversation is about the women working in motorsport. Imagine how poorly the plot is going to reflect on them. Why? Oh, well let’s see. You’ve got an entire plot that revolves around the main character (who’s played by a misogynistic wife beater, by the way, great casting choice!) sleeping with his fucking female engineer.

Now bear in mind how that’s going to negatively affect the PR of women working in motorsport. Especially Laura Mueller, who is the sport’s first ever female race engineer in its entire 75 year history. Who literally already has incels on the internet saying the only way she got her job is because she slept with someone.

And of course, consider the female fans.

There are so many of us out here every day fighting with male fans who think we “don’t know anything” and “only watch F1 because the drivers are hot.” We are constantly ostracized in this fucking sport and feeling like we have to prove that we’re even allowed to like it.

Can you imagine how poorly the F1 Movie will reflect on us?

All this movie is going to do is push the harmful, negative stereotype that F1 is a “man’s world.” It’s just going to make women feel like they don’t belong in a sport where they already feel shoved aside.

So, and maybe I’m being a little dramatic here, but if you happen to know a female F1 fan, please be kind to her. Please check on her.

And to all my ladies, we do belong in this sport. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. 💜💜

after gruelling hours, early morning preparations, 18 weeks of rafe being away from home and now four hours of the most important game in his life, navy confetti erupts onto the field, and before you know it you’re rushing down the steps.

the kids are asleep at home, they would watch this on tv tomorrow, but right now was for you and rafe.

you’re trying to get past all the cameras hoarding the players, and rafe is all but shoving them out of the way to try and spot you in the crowds. when you finally find him, you’re on him in a matter of seconds, in his arms, lifting you up from the ground, wrapping your arms around his neck.

next thing you’re helping him take his helmet off, grinning as you fix his messy hair and he just kisses you like it might be the last time he ever will. his hands press into your waist fractionally harder, mumbling through the kiss about how much he loves you, how supportive you’ve been. “i wouldn’t even be here without you,” he mutters, letting you catch your breath for the briefest of moments while his forehead leans against yours.

he’s covered in sweat, dirt covering his kit and confetti stuck in his hair but he’s never been happier, and you think he’s never looked more gorgeous. you shake your head, “this was all you, baby, i’m so proud of you.”

his lips are back on yours in an instant, ignoring all the flashes, one of his hands coming to the side of your head, shielding you from the lights while simultaneously bringing you closer to him. when the cameras get too close, he doesn’t break the kiss, just pushes them away with his hand, covering their shots, turning them in the direction of the players who are celebrating on the field, drenching their manager in energy drinks, and riling up the crowds. they can film them celebrating.

The sexiest thing a woman can do is move on. Whether it’s from their partner, career, family, etc. Society has programmed women into believing there’s a moral reward for enduring and staying. Fuck that. Get a new partner, new career, move to another state/country, please just MOVE ON.
