An Overview of the National Ability Center’s Equestrian Programs
Gary Teran is the president and CEO of First Western Advisors, and one of three founding members of the Frances W. Burton Foundation, a foundation focused on supporting charitable organizations. A dedicated philanthropist, Gary Teran has supported numerous charitable groups throughout his career including American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, and the equestrian program at the National Ability Center. Each of the National Ability Center's programs is designed to support individuals of any ability by teaching confidence, self-esteem, and life skills through education, recreation, and sports. Some of the programs offered at the center include camping, rafting, biking, hiking, and equestrian activities. The center's equestrian program offers three types of equine-assisted therapies and activities including adaptive horseback riding, equine-assisted learning, and hippotherapy. These programs each have a specific age and weight range and are offered six days a week throughout the year. Each program is aimed at providing therapeutic benefits to adults and children with behavioral, physical, and cognitive disabilities, and the skills learned in the program are applicable to the participant’s personal relationships and home life. The National Ability Center is accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International and is dedicated to meeting the highest levels of industry standards and programming. The center is located only five minutes outside of Park City, Utah, at the Bronfman Family Ranch Recreation and Education Center.
