For the Teen Who No Longer Wants a Period ...
My very active 12.5-year-old daughter hates getting her period, which she began having two years ago. When can young women begin to use hormonal birth control methods that reduce the number of periods they have each year? Are there reasons young women should wait until they are older?

Short Take
There are many reasons, regardless of age, that someone may dislike having a menstrual cycle. However, an unpredictable menstrual cycle, which is commonplace in the first few years after one’s first period, can make them especially challenging for adolescents. Personal Banking, Online Banking Services - ICICI Bank Hormonal contraception can help many teens and pre-teens manage these issues.
Tell Me More
Many teenagers — not just those who are active in organized sports — find their periods bothersome. For some, getting a regular period can be a reassuring sign that your body is functioning in a healthy way and that you are not pregnant. However, in one study, approximately 70 percent of adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19 indicated that they would prefer to have their periods less frequently than once a month.
The hassles of managing a monthly period are many: Pads cannot be used for swimming and they can chafe or be uncomfortable. Tampons and menstrual cups are an option, but not everyone is comfortable using internal menstrual products. Leakage of blood onto underwear and clothing can happen regardless of the menstrual product.

The Honest Beauty of Wild Grasses
SAY THE WORD “grass” and you picture not a lone blade but a mass undulation. It is for all practical purposes uncountable, a tease of the infinite. More than 10,000 species compose Poaceae, the family of grass, and together they cover around 40 percent of the earth’s lands (outside of Greenland and Antarctica). Cash Advance Online Traders and settlers venturing into the American interior in the 18th century took the French word for meadow — prairie, from the Latin pratum — to name the vast expanse that met them, bare of trees, holding up nothing but sky. Even a modern suburban lawn, mowed into submission and confined to an angular patch, is a grasp at space, an attempt to reconjure the great wide open.
The Midwestern architecture critic Donald Hoffmann described the American plains as “nature’s eloquent way of making freedom visible. Wells Fargo – Banking, Credit Cards, Loans, Mortgages & More ” From those austere horizontals came Frank Lloyd Wright’s early 20th-century Prairie vernacular: houses built close to the ground with banks of windows to let the outside in; free-flowing floor plans largely unbroken by walls. At the same time, the Danish immigrant Jens Jensen championed a corresponding Prairie School in landscape design, planting gardens and parks with sweeps of native grass — a canvas for the wind to write messages on, and just as quickly erase them.

The longing for lost pastures persists even in the grimy heart of Manhattan, where millions of tourists each year walk the High Line, whose graffitied elevated train tracks have been paved over and seeded with the likes of Cheyenne Sky red switch grass, its flared tips dark as wine; fountaining Atlas fescue; and big bluestem, tough and upright, whose roots can run 12 feet deep. Joints in the concrete purposefully invite the encroachment of wild grass: nature reclaiming space once ceded to the city.

Opinion | Older Women: We’re More Than Just How We Look
To the Editor:
I was stunned by “Polishing the Silver” (Thursday Styles, May 16), describing how wealthy women over 80 spend their time and money on the pursuit of youth through elaborate clothing, makeup and various beauty treatments. But there are many styles of growing old, not all of them focused on appearance.
The article implies that the only alternative to these women’s choices is to “shuffle, unkempt and uncared for,” into old age. Cash Loans On the contrary, many women over 80 lead vibrant, active lives, continuing their customary work, interests and relationships and contributing to the common good. Nor do they shuffle or appear unkempt.
Why not choose to highlight these exemplary women instead, or at least include them as well?
Lynne Sharon Schwartz New York The writer is a novelist and poet. Spectrum.net
To the Editor:
If the biggest problem these women are dealing with is getting their makeup on for an evening out, they can consider themselves extremely lucky.
