we can all agree that faces like matt damon's were invented in 1922 at the earliest so my question is are there any film actors who do or did have the ancient and/or timeless juice to play the man of many turnings? you have to buy that he is smarter and more cynical than anyone around him but also that he can pull off "jolly backwater lord/everyone's buddy" when necessary. may be (should be?) ugly, MUST have aura. god's favorite. feels weird if he's not short. like, i kind of think odysseus is a bad role for movie actors. their job is to etch a compelling fixed image for endless replay and my man is not a creature of fixed image. his world is not photographable. if you must bring him into this age he should be impossibly charismatic in person but weird-looking and different in every photo. his mouth should always be yapping or his eyes should be closed. if you saw him in the newspaper you shouldn't recognize him in person

The rise of anti-intellectualism has been crazy to witness especially bc people aren’t putting the pieces together. Like more and more I’m seeing average every day people saying things like an education and even literacy are not necessary to earn a living. Meanwhile those in power are absolutely sending their children to the best schools and ensuring that they will receive accredited degrees. The people who hold economic, legal and social power are educated; why would you want to lock yourself out of being able to participate in those spaces? If knowledge was so useless, why do those in power not want you have it while they hoard it for themselves and their children?

honestly i have to kinda disagree with that post thats like “being knightcore doesnt mean pro monarchy just swear ur undying loyalty to ur bff or ur crush or smth”
no. thats not what makes it sexy. either grapple with your beloved master’s role as a symbol of the state or choose to ignore it entirely and remain their loyal hound to whatever end, uncaring of the structures of power which you serve. become naught but a blade, the burden of your choices left to settle in the hand that wields you. it’s not about being besties forever it’s about OWNERSHIP and DUBIOUS MORALITY and FRANKLY QUESTIONABLE POWER DIFFERENTIALS

many people hve correctly and wisely counseled that you should engage with posts from r/aita and other similar spaces purely as creative writing pieces, but i think it's also important to also always remember that a very high percentage of those are also written by fascists trying to make you mad at a woman / trans person / fat person / autistic person / gay person / Black person / any combination of the above that they made up

Reason #13668893+316i why we are in this mess.
Democrats passed the affordable care act, passed the infrastructure bill, got rid of junk fees, lowered prescription costs, gave civil rights, protections, forgave student loans, etc.
Everything the republicans are doing is undoing the work of democrats. Yall would rather sit there on your flat asses and make these weakass centrist takes than actually have the courage to face what is happening with clarity.
But yall let these false ideas spread and become the common thought and you allow the fascist to creep in. The american apathy and aversion to the truth is why we are here!

today i found out that when monarch butterflies migrate south for the winter, all the ones that go across the middle of lake superior suddenly stop going south and go west for five miles and then continue south. which really freaked scientists out cos like What is in the Middle of Lake Superior what do Butterflies know that We Dont Is This The End Times etc. anyway turns out about a hundred million years ago there was a mountain there and the butterflies still think they gotta fly around it. classic butterflies

One thing I haven’t seen discussed much is the fact that Gabe is actively crying during I’m Alive (Reprise) (or at least has very recently stopped). Like tear tracks, spiky eyelashes, red eyes, the whole thing. I think this is such a cool choice and I can think of several possible interpretations:
- It’s an emotionally heightened moment where Gabe is (if we see him as having his own emotions) feeling a lot of relief as well as anger and a desperation to be seen and crying from heightened emotion works well for the younger version of the character. Alternatively it also just adds an extra layer of emotional instability to what is already an extremely emotional moment for the family
- This is Dan’s “version” of Gabe who is therefore crying as that is what Dan remembers him doing. He has none of Diana’s delusions of him growing up, so when he remembers Gabe he sees him crying as he did in the weeks/months before he died
- Implies that while Gabe has been shut up in his little box he’s been crying watching everyone else go about their lives
- This comes just after How Could I Ever Forget and the broken music box and is a further manifestation of Diana and Dan’s pain and guilt (could also see it as Gabe grieving his own death if you want to perceive him as more independent and “real”)
- Gabe is at the height of his power over the family here and the tears maintain that air of vulnerability that characterises Jack Wolfe’s Gabe as compared to previous versions
There has to be a reason for it imo because to enter in that state Jack would have to be standing offstage crying his eyes out (or like inhaling an onion or something). That takes effort and has to be deliberate. (Unless of course he was simply sobbing at Caissie and Jamie’s How Could I Ever Forget in which case same how relatable). Anyway I would love to discuss/hear your thoughts!

and a shoutout to the two Māori men who travelled to Vienna in 1859, got themselves apprenticed as printers (and incidentally became accomplished ballroom dancers), and finally had an audience with Franz Josef where they charmed him so much that he sent a printing press to New Zealand….which was promptly used from 1861 to print the newspaper of the Kingitanga anti-colonial movement.

Hey all, it's Juneteenth. I feel like this is a good day to talk about folks in prison.
I'm pen pals with several folks in prison. I've been doing this for many years now, and i think it's one of the most important things I've ever done. I started because i was interested in prison abolition, and i was told this was the way to get started in that movement. It's also a way to invest in our communities. Because queer, poc, poor, and disabled communities are disproportionately affected by the industrial prison complex. It's our people who are being thrown into cages and often being forgotten, tortured, enslaved, and denied their rights. We can invest in our communities and participate in mutual aid no matter what our resources or ability levels are. Being a pen pal requires investing a pretty small amount of time and money. Literally, if you can write a letter, you can do it (and often, you can send the letters online, so you don't even need paper).
I have made some true friends as a pen pal. People who have offered me support as much as i have offered them. I have one pen pal who i can talk to about things that i don't talk about with anyone else.
I won't lie, it's not always easy. There have been a couple pen pals that i didn't get along with well. I had to tell them that it wasn't working and gently end our correspondence. I've had two pen pals that stopped writing to me after they got out, and i just have to hope that they're ok out there. And these folks put up with really hard, sometimes horrifying shit inside. It can be hard to process that. Though, I've known other folks with pen pals who clearly set boundaries about what they're comfortable talking about and that's worked for them. I've had a pen pal ask me to do more than i was able to do for them, and i had to tell them no. They understood. You have to be able to set boundaries in any relationship, though.
You get to decide what you can do to help a pen pal. For some of us, that's just writing letters. I sometimes send gifts to folks (mostly books from Amazon). For one of my pen pals, i look up info about magic the gathering or D&D because she plays those games inside. For another, i wrote a letter to help support her case for getting a shorter sentence. One friend likes me to look up facts about his favorite actresses and sports teams. When one friend was facing transphobic discrimination, i organized a call in to the superintendent (and we really helped her). Some pen pals are looking for romantic connections (they generally tell you up front of that's the case). Many queer prisoners just need a connection to their community.
Please at least check out www.blackandpink.org and learn about what being a pen pal can mean for people on the inside. That organization has connected me with several queer pen pals. Even if you're not going to sign up to be a pen pal, just take a few minutes to learn about it.
Thanks!
Ps: you can ask me if you have any questions about
