There will be a snooker tournament at Spot On Club in Kettering for anyone interested. It would be great for anyone looking for tournament experience or just friendly competition. The club sells good food and drink and it would be an ideal chance to meet like minded snooker players. The tournament isn't until June but please register your interest as soon as possible. Please pass on the message.

Huge congratulations to new European champion, Harvey Chandler. Now has a ticket on the snooker tour for next season. Never thought that young lad who won my first handicap event would go on to such greatness! Well done.

The regional junior tour of 2017/18 is now near its completion. The Midlands tour is currently led by Adam Goff and Ryan Roberts. Both of these play in Northampton. Harley Allen, also based in Northampton, is also in the top 5. I have had the privilege of coaching all three of them and they all started playing at my junior club on a Saturday morning. It is great to see them doing so well. The EASB are now looking for new players to take part in their tournaments. It is a great chance to play against players of the same age. If you are under the age of 18 and enjoy your snooker then get in touch with them. Many of today's top professionals started on the junior tours. Don't be afraid to give it a go!!!

Congratulations to Chris Mortimer who beat his highest break last week! He has just started one of my coaching packages and has only had 3 lessons. I'm sure he will keep improving over the next few weeks. Well done Chris!!!!

Yan Bingtao, the new young snooker sensation from China, and myself at the CBSA academy in Beijing in 2014. Bingtao had just won the world amateur title. Now he is in the final of the Northern Ireland Open and could be the youngest ever ranking event winner. Shows what hard work and the right training can do.

Northampton town singles/doubles
The draw has been made for the town singles events and town doubles. The full draw can be found at www.ntsnooker.com
I have entered the singles although I don't practice as much as I used to but I'm going to give it my best shot. I also have a couple of students involved and so I wish them the best of luck (unless they play me).

Topspin and backspin applied to the cue ball. Aim where you intend to strike the cue ball and don't dip into the cue ball or raise the tip as you strike.
