The Family Padfoot
“In the yeere of our Lord 1577, in a great tempest of violent raine, lightning and thunder, the like wherof hath been seldone seene, With the appeerance of an horrible shaped thing, sensibly perceiued of the people then and there assembled.”
It’s Halloween night, and a routine patrol shift for the Bricksburg Chief of Police goes startlingly wrong.
Features: BC, Officer Halliday (OC), mention of Benny and Neil Blue, Coppernauts implied. Warnings: a naughty word, Bad Cop being generally bad-tempered
****************************
Rain glazes the windscreen of the Chief’s black unmarked patrol car, runs in small undulating rivulets down the hood. Heat from the headlights gives off a ghostly curl of steam, backlit against the darkness by the lights themselves. B. leans heavily back against the driver’s side door, his rain jacket squeaking in protest. He folds his arms and tries to move as little as possible. It’s the only way to stay warm on this cold, wet, raw Halloween night.

Believe it or not there was once a time when Coppernauts was a “crack ship” and not even by far the most common ship. In the early days Emmet/Bad Cop, Benny/Emmet, and even Bad Cop/Business were waaaay more popular.
For me Coppernauts is a really interesting dynamic when you think about it in terms of Enemies to Lovers and there’s a lot that’s really fun to explore about a relationship like that!
Also yeah it’s the “build away, whatever your name is” because at that point Bad Cop is the only character supportive of Benny’s spaceship building ;)
Why do so many people ship Coppernauts? I mean no hate, it's a very cute ship, but it seems kinda random?? Like Benny and GC/BC? Is there something in the missed in the movie about them interacting that makes this ship so widespread?

So I love your latest story and I adore how you write B, but the mental image of him making hot dogs in the coffee maker has fucking slayed me. I am dead now. B who taught you this? Your parents would be so disappointed. This should be illegal.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! Thank you for reading! I picture B as this man who’s spent so much of his life eating in a police station or a security department that he’s completely lost any sense of how to cook food in a proper kitchen. When I was training to be an EMT, I learned you can heat up just about anything in a coffee maker—not even kidding—which partially inspired B’s unique method of preparing hot dogs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ala Ebtekar, Thirty-Six Views of the Moon (from the San Jose Museum of Art)
Cyanotype prints on found book pages exposed to moonlight.
Thirty-six Views of the Moon is a collection of night exposures, left from dusk till dawn and exposed by moonlight on book pages from texts referencing the moon and night sky spanning the last ten centuries. Working with photographic negatives of the Moon from the Lick Observatory archives in Northern California and treating each book page with Potassium ferricyanide and Ammonium ferric citrate (cyanotype) to make the surface of the page light-sensitive, the pages are then exposed overnight by the UV-light emitted by the moon. The work takes its cue from a poem by Omar Khayyam that imagines us as the objects of the Moon’s omnipresent gaze and, in response, produces a vignette of windows on the Moon that abstract the typical celestial gaze, merging galaxy with ground to collapse space and time.
