“[When] I ask my dad a question about when something was, if I ask him to place an event in time, his mouth drops open into a little “o” , he raises his head up and tilts it to the side. And if his hands are free enough, he’ll bring them together in front of his heart, with the fingers just hovering over each other. I think when he does that, he’s consulting a historical timeline he’s constructed in his head.”
