“Nah, just hate the taste of menthol,” he said, chuckling softly. “You’re really entertaining somehow. Like the way a dancing parakeet video is entertaining.”
Unsure if he was being insulted or not, Bash just shrugged, taking another drag of his cigarette. “Well. It’s not menthol. Do you want it or not?”

“I get that a lot,” he replied simply, a heavy sigh escaping his lips. He was exhausted from the day, and it’d hardly started. Glancing to the cigarette in the other’s hand, he shrugged a shoulder. “Depends. What do you smoke?”
“...I’m offering you a free cigarette and you’re gonna be picky about it? Really?” Bash shook his head. “Are you a snob or something?”

“I have never been more happy about not relating to someone’s story. Jesus.”
‘sometimes, I really enjoy being in the hospital. it’s nice to get to know my patients, and to see their reactions when their kids are born. but on the other hand, I really hate getting peed on. it’s kind of a debby downer.’

“Shit, Susanna. Are you always so negative?” Bash didn’t sound judgmental. If anything, he sounded like he approved.
“You know, I think the only good part of summer is being able to drink iced coffee,” Susanna decided. “The rest of it kind of sucks – the constant sun, the heat, that feeling that you’re always a little sweaty…” Sighing, she took a sip of the iced coffee in her hands, frowning as she did so. “I take that back. They got my order wrong, now ice coffee can’t even save me from the oncoming summer.”

“No, I know,” Monica answered followed by a reluctant nod of her head. “I prefer to be called a lady, though. Dude isn’t a nickname I like getting from boys I offer to by drinks for.” She still didn’t plan on taking her offer back, however, knowing she’d feel too guilty if she had after already mentioning it. “What do you like?”
“Right, my bad. How about I call you by your name instead — It’s Monica, right?” It wasn’t unusual that Sebastian knew her name — Ashbourne was a small town, after all, and remembering people’s names was one of Bash’s few well-honed skills. Shrugging, Bash leaned back in his seat, flashing her another smile. “How about I have one of whatever you’re having? You look like you’ve got good taste.”

The male jumps initially from the physical contact, the other’s touch burning through his sweater as he looks up at the other through hooded eyes, “I…Not…not much. Just…” His gaze couldn’t remain at one location for long, his entire body shaking and subconscious tears welling up in his eyes, shutting them tight as he tried to escape the noise and images in his head. “Fucked. Pretty fucked.” Khai said simply, not opening his eyes as he leans forward to bury his face into the crook of Bash’s neck. At least he stilled SMELLED the same, the scent bringing him back down to earth. “I just…can’t get the fuck away. You know?”
Under normal circumstances, Bash probably would have rejected the hug — it was the exact sort of thing that would have felt normal four years ago, that wasn’t normal now. But Khai was clearly fucked up, and Bash wasn’t about to push Khai away when he was in this state. So Bash accepted it, wrapping his arms around him and pulling him into a tighter embrace. “I know, buddy,” he said, voice as gentle as he could manage it. “Just— Fuck, just breathe, Khai, okay? You’re alright. I got you.”

“I…yeah. Fuck. I don’t…I didn’t know where else to go but…Never mind. It’s cool. I’m cool. Everything’s cool.”
“Oh, jeez, Khai—” Bash reached out to grab Khai’s forearm, tight enough to give a comforting squeeze but not so much so that Khai couldn’t easily pull away. “You can stay, just. How fucked up are you, man?”

“Oh…” You could see some of the light fade from Monica’s eyes, another one of her long-winded stories cut short. “Yeah, sorry. Of course. Totally,” she said, shaking her head. Monica turned away her gaze, trying to hide the vulnerable look of defeat. “Wait until you drink? Do you want me to buy you a drink, then? I can do that! You totally deserve it for listening to… anything I was saying in the first place.”
That response managed to put a smile on Bash’s face, though he looked more baffled than anything else. “It’s really not that serious, dude.” Shaking his head, he leaned back in his seat for a moment, before he added, “You can buy me a drink if you want, though.”

“You’re so rude,” Pearl bit out in Kim Kardashian’s exact whiny tone. Unfortunately, she didn’t also have a handbag to smack him with but she did have a holstered tequila water gun which she drew just to squirt at his chest. “Shots!” she deliberately sang out seconds too late, lips pursing into a blood vessel bursting line. “God, Bash… you could’ve least opened your mouth.”

Stunned and disoriented, Bash slowly looked down at his now soaked shirt. When he looked back up at Pearl again, he was frowning. “Seriously, Pearl? Who the fuck raised you?” Shaking his head, Bash pulled off his shirt, immediately feeling relieved that his under-shirt was only a little damp by comparison. Yeah, he was definitely too sober for this.

“I wouldn’t expect anything else.” She huffed as she adjusted the strap on her shoulder that had been digging into her skin. “That kind of makes me want to go over there and smoke. See Fox go red and actually explode!” She teased before she brought the lighter up to her cigarette and lit it before pushing it back into her pocket.

“No way, man. Trust me, as someone who has lived with the guy for years— You do not want to see that.” Except, actually, maybe Raelyn did want to see that. Bash knew better than to pretend he knew what was going on in that girl’s head. But Bash definitely didn’t want to go through the trouble. “Let’s just grab my shit and go to your place.”

“i suppose you think that would upset me but i’ve met plenty of men in dresses meaner than you.” they roll their eyes, propping a hand on their waist. “i just wanted to know if you knew any restaurants open late.”
“Not being mean, dude. I’m being honest.” Bash looked them up and down, expression skeptical, before he shrugged. “The McDonalds is open 24 hours, and I’m pretty sure the Diner is open until three... I think that’s it for real food.”

“Try not taking it out on other people, it’s boring,” he said, itching for his own cigarette now that he saw the other with one. “Wanna talk about it? I have years of therapy under my belt to make me qualified to feed your psychobabble until you figure out your own problems all on your lonesome and I pocket hundreds per session. Pay up.”

Bash took another long drag of his cigarette, pointedly exhaling the smoke in Max’s direction. Then, he smirked. “Man, I’m taking my apology back. You really are full of shit.” He glanced down at Max’s hands, then pulled another cigarette out of his pocket, waggling it in Max’s direction. “If I give you this, will it shut you up?”

“Can this wait?“ he repeated, feigning a moment of sadness. "Lampford, if you pretend you don’t know trainer that hit me in the head earlier, than what kind of friend are you?”
“Jesse, what...” Bash choked back a laugh, shaking his head. “Call me whatever you want, man, but I don’t know what you’re talking about. Someone hit you in the head?”

“Great… that’s exactly what I’m here for. So either you can keep listening to me ramble on about how great the classic films were or you can order a drink for me to make. Sadly I can’t give them away for free.”
“You drive a hard bargain, my man. Alright. Uh... I’ll have a rum and coke, I guess. Not feeling fancy.” Not that Bash was really ever in the mood for a fancy drink. It was a hard splurge to justify when you didn’t even like the taste of alcohol, after all.
