It’s no secret that I have been banging the Beyoncé drum for many years. For me, B’Day was when it truly became an obsession - I had the album on CD (lol) and meticulously learned all the songs, studied the videos.

It seems laughable to me, in the context of where Bey is now, how good I thought she was back then.

I remember watching her on TV performing at Glastonbury in 2011 and thinking - yes! This is it! This is not gonna get any better!

I find myself struggling to even watch her live shows from before the release of her eponymous album; there’s just so much missing. Without Flawless, XO, Partition, Drunk in Love, 7/11 etc etc there’s just an overwhelming sense of lack.

And now, in the year of our lord 2016, Formation hasn’t just taken it to another level; she’s taken it to another stratosphere.

A friend of mine said she doesn’t even think Bey has reached her peak yet. I hope in a year’s time I’m able to look back and think: It’s laughable to me, in the context of where Bey is now, how good I thought she was back then.
