Gabriella Montez: Disney's Most Baffling Failure At Making A Likable Character

 It truly bewilders and mystifies me that Gabriella turned out the way she is. The writers clearly intended to create a caring, compassionate, intelligent young woman who gets forced into uncomfortable situations as a result of her relationship with the most popular boy at her high school, and has to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of her achieving her goals, and threaten to destroy her relationship.

 Instead, something went terribly, inconceivably wrong. These otherwise fully competent writers somehow spawned one of the most selfish, whiny, condescending, manipulative, emotionally abusive, and immature characters with a massive victim-complex that I’ve ever had the great displeasure of having to suffer through seeing on my screen for the span of three movies.

I’ve gone into detail explaining the baffling toxicity of her treatment of Troy in several videos, and numerous essays. In fact, I’ve stated before that you can summarize the entire series as the story of a bright-eyed, good-hearted, optimistic teenage boy gradually succumbing to the effects of enduring two years of emotional abuse. For the sake of keeping things rather short, this time, though, I’m going to cite the movie where Gabriella’s vile traits reach their apex: High School Musical 3: Senior Year.
