The alpha guardians knew they were doomed. But refused to see it so hard. Or maybe they did. I like to think alpha rose saw it and accepted it. She was bitter about it certainly, but it didnt mean she didnt set stubbornly to making sure her daughter would grow up with what was needed. The necessary modifications to her home to ensure the development of an area fit to accomodate Roxy, as well as giving her devices for ease of travel and for storage. A house built on adaptability and use, but lacking the character of a home. Perhaps the reason she was such an elusive enigma to Roxy.

Then we have Dirks. Full of sentimental memorabilia, keepsakes that Dave collected, shitty artpieces and posters, gamebro magazines and shitty swords. A home so adorned in dave striders achievements that Dirk couldn’t help but model himself after him. It faces the stark opposite of roxys: sentimentality over convenience. Almost like Dave didnt see how grave the situation was- no, didnt believe this was all it was so never took the proper care to adapt the apartment. Dave was a movie director. Would it be a far throw to say he mightve had some hope that maybe just maybe, it would turn out like one of the movies too? The ones where the good guys win sgainst all odds. That they mightve had more time.

so, the next best thing is being a royal guard. 90% of the job is standing outside some important-looking building waiting for a royal to stumble outside and need something, but it gives him status.

then, the heir, the one who's promising to take down The Cens6re9, stumbles out of the important-looking building eridan is in charge of, walks right up to him, and says "get me the fuck out of here or I'll kill you myself."

and what, is he gonna die for this job? hell no. so he takes a scuttlebuggy with the heir in back and just starts driving. listens to the directions he gives until they taper off. "what's your name?"

there's a first time for everything, including a royal wanting to know something about him. "eridan ampora. 3rd royal unit, official of" and he gets an ice cube from the champagne tub thrown at the back of his neck.

"I don't care about your rank. I just need to know who to request when I take this stupid planet over. you're the only one who's actually listened when I said to take me somewhere."
