one day we’re gonna have to talk about the implications of referring to girls as young as 12/13 as “young women” and referring to men in their 20s as “boys”

My favorite thing about kazu that i go buck wild over is how he never once speaks in english and only explicitly talks in japanese and every other character can under stand him and vise versa simply by a small but pivotal scene in the second episode that explains why like do you have any idea the implications gen:lock verse has for future linguistic progress and how fuckin cool it is that its canonically a world where two completely different lives can sit down and have a conversation and under stand each other without changing anything

gen:lock
So I just started gen:lock since it became available on Crunchyroll in my country, and I love it..
Interesting plots and twist. There are some genuine surprises in here which is why I will try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible.
Cool-looking sci-fi setting. I love the creepy design of all the union-technology.
I do wish they were more clear on what the “Union” actually is though. A fascist dictatorship? A global terrorist-group? Some weird robot-collective like the Borg? Aliens!?
Characters have flaws and appropriate arcs. And theere are some genuinely great acting moments. David Tennant is always a win.
Also, lots of diversity. Though some of it is clearly a bit stereotypical. As I have said before diversity in shows aren’t usually something that impacts my own enjoyment all that much, but it should always be encouraged and this time it plays straight into the themes.
Angry Scottish weabo bunny-girl with a foul mouth is my favorite.
This is some good CG-animation.
No seriously, like…really good. The action scenes look amazing and it is full of little touches in movement to convey subtle emotion.
Complex and nuanced themes of trauma, unity and freaking transhumanism. I love transhumanism, and I haven’t seen it dealt with this well since Sense8.
Thank you RoosterTeeth. I swear I will catch up on RWBY and Red vs Blue soon.

hey yknow what’s great about gen:lock??
the casting is. pretty much just as diverse as the show. like, on a level I don’t think I’ve ever seen in any animated show before.
racially-accurate voice acting isn’t as common as it should be because studios often don’t go out of their way to cast shows properly and even if the VAs would turn down the role if they knew it should go to someone else, they often can’t because they aren’t told much about the role to avoid information leaks.
so like. the fact that we have Michael B Jordan as Chase, Golshifteh Farahani as Yasaman, Monica Rial as Marin?? that doesn’t happen much. and like, they’re not the only examples!!
and now we have it confirmed that Asia Kate Dillon, a non-binary VA, is playing Val/entina, who’s a non-binary/genderfluid character.
and that’s. really fucking cool.
so anyway that’s my mini VA rant ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
