Prologue - 1989 Taylor's Version
"When I was 24, I sat in a backstage dressing room in London, buzzing with anticipation. My backup singers and bandmates gathered around me in a scattered circle, scissors emerged, and I watched in the mirror as my locks of long curly hair fell in piles on the floor. There I was in my plaid button-down shirt, grinning sheepishly as my tour mates and friends cheered on my haircut. This simple thing that everyone does. But I had a secret. For me, it was more than a change of hairstyle. When I was 24, I decided to completely reinvent myself.
How does a person reinvent herself, you ask? In any way I could think of. Musically, geographically, aesthetically, behaviorally, motivationally. And I did so joyfully. The curiosity I had felt the first murmurs of while making Red had amplified into a pulsing heartbeat of restlessness in my ears. The risks I took when I toyed with pop sounds and sensibilities on Red? I wanted to push it further. The sense of freedom I felt when traveling to big bustling cities? I wanted to live in one. The voices that had begun to shame me in new ways for dating like a normal young woman? I wanted to silence them.
You see, in the years preceding this, I had become the target of slut-shaming—the intensity and relentlessness of which would be criticized and called out if it happened today. The jokes about my amount of boyfriends, the trivialization of my songwriting as if it were a predatory act of a boy-crazy psychopath, the media co-signing of this narrative. I had to make it stop because it was starting to really hurt.
It became clear to me that for me, there was no such thing as casual dating, or even having a male friend who you platonically hang out with. If I was seen with him, it was assumed I was sleeping with him. And so, I swore off hanging out with guys, dating, flirting, or anything that could be weaponized against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian era.
Being a consummate optimist, I assumed I could fix this if I simply changed my behavior. I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships. If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn't sensationalize or sexualize that, right? I would learn later on that people could and people would.
But none of that mattered then because I had a plan and I had a demeanor as trusting as a basket of golden retriever puppies. I had the keys to my own apartment in New York, and I had new melodies bursting from my imagination. I had Max Martin and Shellback who were happy to help me explore this new sonic landscape I was enamored with. I had a new friend named Jack Antonoff who had made some cool tracks in his apartment. I had the idea that the album would be called 1989, and we would reference big '80s synths and write sky-high choruses. I had sublime, inexplicable faith, and I ran right toward it, in high heels and a crop top.
There was so much that I didn't know then, and looking back, I see what a good thing that was. This time of my life was marked by the right kind of naiveté, a hunger for adventure, and a sense of freedom I hadn't tasted before. It turns out that the cocktail of naiveté, hunger for adventure, and freedom can lead to some nasty hangovers, metaphorically speaking. Of course, everyone had something to say, but they always will. I learned lessons, paid prices, and tried not to say it, don't say it... I'm sorry. I have to say it. Shake it off.
I'll always be so incredibly grateful for how you loved and embraced this album. You, who followed my zigzag creative choices and cheered on my risks and experiments. You, who heard the wink and humor in "Blank Space" and maybe even empathized with the pain behind the satire. You, who saw the seeds of allyship and advocating for equality in "Welcome to New York." You, who knew that maybe a girl who surrounds herself with female friends in adulthood is making up for a lack of them in childhood (not starting a tyrannical bot girl cult). You, who saw that I reinvent myself for a million reasons, and that one of them is to try my very best to entertain you. You, who have had the grace to allow me the freedom to change.
I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic you would sprinkle on my life for so long.
This moment is a reflection of the woods we've wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark.
I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989.
It's been waiting for you."

things to do on sundays to recharge and make the upcoming week awesome
• clean ya room (just do it). also, check those pinterest boards you save for “one day” and actually go through them and draw some inspiration, even if you just end up rearranging the books on your bookshelf or putting some flowers from your garden in a mason jar on your desk. this is your home, make it feel like it is.
• do your laundry (also, don’t forget your bed sheets). if you’re in the mood, look at next week’s weather forecast and think about what you’re going to wear. go through your drawers, check the back of your closet. that hat you bought some time ago and forgot about because you didn’t dare to wear it? well… new week, new you, right?
• call a friend/family member you haven’t talked to in a while, tell them you miss them. tell them you love them. remember and appreciate that they are a part of your life even if it doesn’t feel like it all the time.
• draw, paint, journal, write or make some music. something you know you love doing but “never find the time”. sunday is “finding-the-time day”. if you’re not feeling creative, read a book or watch your favorite show. or watch a new show. a scary show. a funny show. laugh as loud as you want. listen to music. listen to your favorite songs, or listen to new songs. even a new genre if you dare. turn the volume all the way up. take a second to consciously feel the music. you can always get up and dance. or sing. or both.
• the great, but still really effective classic: take a bath or a really long shower. if you have this special face or hair mask you’re saving up for a special occasion: congrats, you’re the special occasion today. use it. also, body lotion. we all know you’re going to be running late during the week and skip it one too many times. make yourself feel like the goddess you are.
• sit in silence for a few moments. listen to your breath. listen to your heartbeat. for the love of god PLEASE listen to your thoughts for once in your life. don’t make them feel like they are wrong. or bothersome. they too just want to be heard once in a while. what are they trying to tell you? what could be soothing for them? be compassionate to yourself. it’s okay. you are okay. you are okay.
• think about things you can be grateful for next week. even if you feel like your life sucks atm, think about the small things you take for granted in a different way. for example: “next week, i will have access to clean water. CLEAN. WATER. 844 million people don’t have that.” or “next week, my legs will take me wherever i want to go. not everybody has two fully functioning legs, so i’m lucky in that way.” you’re allowed to feel bad about your life, but you’re also allowed to feel good about things.
• if you’ve stayed home most of the week, go out. go for a walk. go swimming. go to a party or dinner with friends. even if you feel like you don’t need to see the outside world, chances are you’ll feel great after you do. if you feel like you’ve been running around all week, maybe you’d like to stay home today. put on your ugliest sweater, comfiest leggings, and fluffiest socks and curl up under a thousand blankets. you a sloth today and it’s okay.
• eat. i mean honestly: eat THE THING. i don’t care if you’re on a diet. if there’s something you’ve been craving all week that has turned you into the veiny-neck-dude meme just trying to resist it: EAT IT. you deserve it. not because you worked out or ate salads or did well in school, but just because you’re a human and you love to eat and life is short and you should be allowed to eat yummy things. it’s okay. you won’t gain 5 pounds or lose your brain cells no matter how unhealthy it is, i promise.
• plan plan plan yo week. it doesn’t matter if you use a planner, bullet journal, the calendar on your phone or the notes app: write everything down you have going on next week. appointments. events. coffee-dates. when are you going to the gym? what are you going to eat? (meal prep if necessary) also, create reminders on your phone for everything. “i won’t forget it!” is a sweet thought, but oh honey you will. schedule reminders for every event. let your phone remind you that you need to buy toilet paper when the store is nearby. schedule daily reminders for your medications. (once you’ve done this it honestly feels like you just cleaned out 38GB of your brain, you simply don’t have to worry about that anymore, space for more important info, like your new favorite pun to annoy everyone with)
• most importantly: listen to what your mind and your body need today and next week. daily life is so full of “should-do”s that it’s important to find a healthy balance between the “should”s and the “need”s. you will be much more productive, healthy and happy that way. nobody knows you better than you do, take advantage of that and plan accordingly.

a small guide on how i battle my essays! (click on an image to view it clearer)
(keep in mind: i’m an english major so a majority of my essays are literature-focused!)
these are just some of the methods i want to share that work for me when i write my innumerable amount of essays! i’m definitely a huge planner so it’s no secret that i spend a lot of time on an essay. if you’re a deadline fighter, these tips might not necessarily be helpful (especially the handwriting one). but i hope this gives you an insight on how i write my essays! 🌈

Back to school time is coming fast, and for a lot of us that means moving into dorms!! My first year I brought all the wrong things, so here are some tips and a lil packing list to help you guys figure out what you need and what you don’t.
tip #1 You don’t need as much as you think you need. Throw out those bed bath and beyond packing lists because they’re only trying to take all your money. If you don’t use it when you’re at home, you won’t use it at school.
tip #2 Think through a typical school day – what do you do? What do you need?
tip #3 Pack in things that will be staying in your dorm as much as possible – laundry baskets, trunks, those plastic drawers, etc. It’s way easier than carrying down 500 boxes to the recycling bin.
tip #4 Don’t shove too much into one bin, especially if there’s no elevator. Keep it light!
tip #5 See if there are things you can wait and buy there – snacks, school supplies, etc to save room in your car. But drive an extra half an hour instead of going to the Target right by campus that’s inevitably packed and sold out of everything.
tip #6 Pack cleaning supplies last so you can clean everything (especially your bed!!) before you start unpacking.
tip #7 Bring some snacks and a bottle of water for moving day, and dress comfy. It will inevitably be 100 degrees and you + your fam will get hangry fast.
what to bring:
bedding
A comfy mattress pad!! Dorm mattresses are brutal. Mine was around $25 from bed bath and beyond and was just as comfy as the expensive tempuredic ones
An extra set of (cheap) twin xl sheets for laundry day
An easy to clean duvet/quilt (twin is fine)
Double check on bedding sizes! Twin xl is standard, but it may be different at your school.
Extra blankets for movies nights/when friends stay over
bath
A sturdy shower caddy! I got one for $5 and had to replace it by fall break
A robe for the walk to and from the bathroom
Shower shoes!!!!! Dorm bathrooms are nasty
Towels (3) and bath cloths (however often you use them)
Whatever soaps/shampoos/etc you use
Stock up on pads/tampons/hand soap before your parents leave so you don’t have to walk to the store when you need it
study
Get a good desk lamp!!
Don’t buy notebooks until after the first day of class! Some may be better suited for laptop notes, and for some you may not take notes at all.
A bulletin board is a lifesaver!!
A small white board (not hung up on the wall) is nice for making notes/working on problems without wasting paper
Find a good planner!!
And a wall calendar
Have those random things on hand that you never think about until you need them: tape (masking, duct!!!!, scotch), tape measure, etc
Bring lots of lil drawer organizer/pen cups to organize
Pack all of your favorite pens/journals/sticky notes, but leave a few at home for when you’re studying on break
clothes
Research your school’s weather and pack accordingly, ofc
Pack lots that’s easy to layer (old buildings have temperamental heating)
Comfy shoes are so important!! You’ll be walking everywhere
Leave most winter clothing at home to pick up on break, but bring a coat and sweater in case there’s some early cold weather
Same goes for spring semester! Packing shorts in January seems weird, but you’ll be glad
Pack an outfit or two for nice events/interviews
Bring all the clothes that make you feel great and confident, and leave the rest at home
Some cozy clothes for lazy days/camping out at the library
Rain boots and a rain coat! I never used them before, but rainy days are 10x worse when you have to walk to class
Try not to over pack – you’ll be getting new clothes (especially free t shirts) and dorm storage is limited
misc
Bring a floor lamp! Dorm lighting is so depressing, you’ll want one in addition to your desk lamp.
Duct tape!! Seriously you’ll use it all the time
A sleeping bag is great to have on hand; you’ll use it more than you think (weekend trips, for friends who stay over, etc)
A trash can!
Some cleaning supplies: clorox wipes, a broom, etc
HDMI cord for watching pirated movies on your tv
Medicine – pain killers, cold/stomach/allergy medicine, cough drops, etc
A small duffle bag, plus a toiletry case for weekend trips
Your insurance card!!! + other important papers in case of emergency
Tupperware for sneaking food out of the dining hall
what not to bring:
here are a few things commonly listed on packing lists that you’ll never use.
A bed skirt – so many suggested it, but there’s no need
A fan – most dorms have a/c units, and if it turns out to be too hot it’s easier to go out and buy one for $10 than to store one you don’t use
Printer – you’ll most likely get free printing money to use at the library
A laundry drying rack – you have bed posts for a reason
Travel sized toiletries – just bring the full size. You live there, after all
Bed risers – you’ll most likely have an adjustable bed already
Step ladder – I cannot think of a reason you would need this (other than move in day) when a chair would not suffice
Iron/ironing board – I promise ironing will not cross your mind, and if you really need to just throw it in the dryer with a wet bath cloth. The extra space will be worth the fifty cents.
Pots/pans – you’ll rarely be cooking if you have a meal plan, and if you are most schools allow you to rent them for the night
This is far from an exhaustive list, but it should help you get an idea of what you need and what you don’t! Good luck and happy packing!

How To Get A Job Fast As Hell
 @owenabbott
Apply to a  job, wait (1) day, then call.  Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.
When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly,  tell them your first and last name.
Describe your experiences  as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years]  costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.
Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say  things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.”  “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”
When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say  YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).
Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.
When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.
If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)
Questions for after the interview:
1.  Does this position offer upward mobility?
2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)
Then, shake their hand,  Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.
AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows  that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.
DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone.  In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.

Things You Should NEVER Say to a Translator (written by a Translation student)
Tumblr media
1. “Do you actually live from translation?” ok, it’s not bad if you say this to a translator, but depending on how you say it, it can sound rude, of course it depends on the person. Yes, there are people who live of translation, so don’t just go around and do translations without adequate qualification for a cheaper price, you’re ruining the market (yes I’ve seen people doing that already).
2. “Oh, professional translators are unemployed because now we have Google Translator and we don’t need people to do that” no, professional translators are unemployed because of what I said above, also try using Google Translator while doing business and see if you can avoid misunderstandings or chaos, good luck with that.
3. “Hey, I know this language very well, I could do some translations to earn some money” this is a myth that NEEDS to go away. Before I had started to study translation at university I also had this mentality, it’s totally FAKE. Translating is not just knowing about the language, is knowing and mastering NOT ONLY the language but also the cultural aspects, how the society in a certain country works, how they think, what’s rude, what’s polite, technical terms, basic aspects of almost every field of study, etc., and you need to solve translation problems often related to cultural aspects that ARE NOT easy to solve believe me.
4. “Translating is easy” I hate to say it to you, but it’s not. Just because we know the language, that doesn’t mean we just can translate things from or to that language in a blink of an eye. We often have to suppress part of the meaning of the text in order to make it understandable in the target language, and by the time that happens you can be sure that the translator already has a headache and probably spent HOURS thinking about that ONE word. It’s not easy people. I love translating, but it can be like psychological torture sometimes.
5. “It’s just translating, can’t you do it faster” I’ve seen people often complain about how that new episode was already released in the original country and NEVER seems to come to their country. Guys, do you know how much time you need to translate a text? Now imagine the time you need to put subtitles on a video, it’ll be even more! And I get it, translators have to be fast, we’re taught that, we practice to be faster, but we can’t be THAT fast. We can’t take quality away from the translation just to be faster!
6. “Can you translate this for me? Oh but I can’t pay that much/it’s just a translation, why do you take so much?” well, yeah, maybe I can, but yes you have to pay that much, you know that? Have you guys seen those posts artists make about this issue? Sometimes they even have screenshots of people trying to get their services for less or even nothing! Well I believe that translators are not asked to make translations completely for free (at least I hope not) but they are asked to make cheaper translations. People need to understand that we can’t do that, as it would harm us and our translator colleagues. I’m going to my third and last year of college and I’m not going to take so little when I start working, I can’t, look at the money and time I spent studying this! My degree is as valuable as the other degrees, so respect translators please!
Please bear in mind that this is just my perspective and that I’m still a student, so I’m not really talking by my own experience but from what I see people doing and just giving my PERSONAL opinion about it as a future translator.
Edit: some translators here are actually saying they are asked to translate FOR FREE omg don’t ask for that! If you ask someone to do their job for free you’re just an asshole!
