Phannie Census FINAL RESULTS
Phwoah dads, I'm handing it over to the mod again!
Thank you so so much to everyone who took and shared the survey! We ended with 1799 total respondents!
Without further ado, let's get into the results...
Updates to preliminary results:
(Because these are largely the same as before, I'll be omitting my commentary. If you're interested you can read my commentary from my preliminary results post. It also has a couple extra pie graphs that I omitted here just to avoid being repetitive/making this too long.)
Do you currently identify as a lesbian? (99.7 % response rate)
71.5% No, 28.5% Yes
2. Have you ever identified as a lesbian? (99.7% response rate)
55.0% Yes, 45.0% No
3. What's your sexual/romantic orientation? (99.6% response rate)
42.3% Bi/Pan/Omni, 40.8% Queer, 34.5% Gay/Lesbian, 29.2% Ace/Aro, 9.7% Demi, 5.5% Straight, 2.83% write-ins
4. What's your gender? (98.6% response rate)
50.5% Woman, 16.8% A different kind of nonbinary (specify in other), 15.6% Genderfluid, 15.5% Man, 14.1% Agender, 5% Demigirl, 3.6% Demiboy, 2.8% Bigender/Polygender, 2.3% Genderqueer (write-in), 0.7% Intersex, 1.1 % other write-ins
*in this case write-ins refers to people who only left a write-in without checking another box. This is not the case for all the other "check all that apply" questions (which include all write-ins in the percent), but this had so many write-ins it broke the google form so this is the best I can do lol.
5. What's your gender identity? (98.7% response rate)
47.8% Cisgender, 41.5% Nonbinary, 28.1% Transgender, 0.6% Intersex, 2.3% write-ins
6. What was your assigned gender at birth? (99.0% response rate)
95.7% Female, 2.4% Prefer not to say, 0.7% Male, 0.6% Actually my doctor was super cool and didn't assign me a gender against my will, 0.6% write-ins
7. What's your race/ethnicity? (99.6% response rate)
84.7% White, 10.3% Hispanic, 7.5% Asian/South Asian, 2.3% Black, 1.6% Middle Eastern, 1.1% Native American, American Indian, or Alaska Native, 0.4% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, 3.1% write-ins
8. What's your age? (95.3% response rate)
Average age: 23.1, Min: 0 (or 12 if you omit the 0), Max: 50, Most common age: 23, Standard deviation: 4.5
Full Table:
*The program I was using for this automatically rejected any responses that weren't in number form (ex: mid 20s was rejected but 25 was allowed), so the results may differ slightly.
9. Which continent are you from? (99.1% response rate)
55.5% North America, 29.8% Europe, 6.2% Australia, 3.4% South America, 3.3% Asia, 1.6% Oceania/Zealandia, 0.2% Africa, 0.1% Antarctica
10. Which country are you from? (96.4% response rate)
Top 5: 49.4% United States, 13.8% United Kingdom, 5.7% Australia, 5.2% Canada, 3.7% Germany
Full Table:
There were responses from 71 countries!!
11. Which of the 4 Gs of the Dan and Phil demographic are you? (99.8% response rate)
87.5% Gays, 84.9% Geeks, 63.9% Girlies, 38.5% Goths, 0.6% None actually, 2.5% write-ins
12. Did Dan make you trans/question your gender? (99.4% response rate)
34.5% No, I questioned my gender all on my own (or something else made me I guess), 27.0% No, I've always been sure I'm cis, 14.6% No I made myself trans (or something else did I guess), 14.2% Yes, he made me question my gender, 5.8% Yes, he made me trans, 3.9% write-ins
13. What year did you join the phandom? (99.6% response rate)
Top 5: 14.3% 2014, 13.2% 2015, 10.4% 2013, 10.9% 2016, 10.6% 2012
Full Table:
Around 20% of respondents joined the phandom during/after the hiatus!
*The program also rejected non-numerical responses for this one, so non-numerical write-ins and the "I can't even guess" response were not included in analysis.
14. At this exact moment in time, are you a dannie or a phillie? (99.4% response rate)
35.9% I literally couldn't decide with a gun pointed to my head, 35% Dannie, 29.1% Phillie
15. When you first joined the phandom, were you a dannie or a phillie? (99.4% response rate)
67.1% Dannie, 17.4% Phillie, 15.5% I literally couldn't decide with a gun pointed to my head
16. Are you a dannie or a phillie? (with nuance) (40.9% response rate)
Here's a word-cloud depicting the most popular words used across entries:
17. Are you some kind of mentally ill/neurodivergent? (99.6% response rate)
59.0% Yes (and diagnosed), 28.2% Yes (but not diagnosed), 6.1% Not sure, 4.2% No (and I was never assessed), 0.5% No (but I was assessed), 2.0% write-ins
18. Specifically, are you autistic? (99.7% response rate)
27.3% Yes (but not diagnosed), 26.1% No (and I was never assessed), 20.7% Not sure, 20.2% Yes (and diagnosed), 2.1% No (but I was assessed), 3.6% write-ins
19. If you identify as transmasc, do you consider Dan or Phil to be gender goals? (97.7% response rate)
61.3% I'm not transmasc, 14.6% Dan, 12.3% Both, 6.2% Neither, 1.5% Phil, 4.1% write-ins
20. What's your political orientation? (98.3% response rate)
72.6% Strongly left, 20.1% Moderately left, 3.7% I don't really think about politics, 1.3% Center, 0.2% Strongly right, 0.2% Moderately right, 1.9% write-ins
21. Which is better, phyuri or phaoi? (98.4% response rate)
36.9% How dare you ask me to pick one?, 31.0% Phaoi, 21.3% Phyuri, 8.6% I don't know what we're talking about, 2.2% write-ins
22. Are you a furry? (99.3% response rate)
74.8% No, 18.7% I dabble, but wouldn't call myself a full furry, 4.6% Yes, 1.9% write-ins
23. Do you think Sister Daniel is hot? (98.9% response rate)
80.8% Yes, 8.1% No, 6.2% I'm too confused to tell, 4.9% write-ins
New research questions:
What percent of respondents are LGBTQ+?
96.6%
I found this by taking the total number of respondents and subtracting out those who answered that they were cis and straight without checking any other sexualities or gender identities. This is pretty much what I was expecting given that only 5% identified as straight in the preliminary results lol. I love that for us, but also thanks for your support to the 3.4% ally audience lol.
What percent of respondents are all 4 G's of the Dan and Phil demographic?
18.8%
Nearly one fifth! I love that for us lol.
What is the most popular combination of G's in the Dan and Phil demographic for respondents?
Girlies, Gays, Geeks (27.4% of respondents)
There was some confusion in the write-ins over what qualified as "goth", which may explain why that was the least popular one. I'd imagine most of us who would fall into "goth" are probably some flavor of emo, but Dan just picked "goth" because it started with a G.
What percent of respondents were dannies when they joined the phandom but are phillies now? (and every other possible combination)
Dannie to Dannie: 29.4%, Dannie to Can't decide: 20.3%, Dannie to Phillie: 15.2%, Phillie to Phillie: 10.3%, Can't decide to Can't decide: 9.8%, Phillie to Can't decide: 4.3%, Can't decide to Phillie: 2.7%, Can't decide to Dannie: 2.5%, Phillie to Dannie: 2.1%
I omitted responses where they left one or both of the questions blank. The high percents in originally dannie categories makes sense, given the fact that around 2/3 of respondents were dannies when they joined the phandom, which leads me to my next question...
What percent of dannies became phillies and vice versa?
23.3% of respondents who were dannies when they joined the phandom are phillies now (45% remained dannies)
12.2% of respondents who were phillies when they joined the phandom are dannies now (60.6% remained phillies)
This differs from the previous question slightly, because the previous question is percents out of all respondents, while these percents are the pool of respondents who identified as dannies/phillies. More than half of respondents who were phillies when they joined the phandom are still phillies today, which I find interesting. It makes sense than there would be less dannies remaining dannies, since the overall response has shifted from around 2/3 dannies when they joined to pretty evenly split today.
What was the average age respondents were when they joined the phandom?
14 years old
I found this by taking the average age (23.1) and subtracting 9.1 (2025 - the average year people joined the phandom, 2015.9). This tracks with the stereotypes I had in my head lol. I was curious about whether new fans who are finding them just now are also around 14, so I sorted and just looked at the data for people who found them in 2025 and they are still mostly teenagers, although a little older (average age: 17.5).
Thank you!!!
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this! Even though I'm done collecting the data, I still have the files and programs to analyze them, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions! I've had so much fun doing this, and I really appreciate everyone who took the time to go on this journey with me.
Future directions: Next week I'm planning on putting out one final update asking about future directions. Would you be interested in a Phannie Census 2026? What you want that to look like? I'll be doing a series of polls next Sunday to ask about what this should look like in the future.

some of my favourite slides from @raccoonmilf's great panel about raccoons and rabies yesterday, as well as a couple shots of her powerful "cool teacher" chair pose required by her cosplay (which she has stated was not intentionally pussy-out but frankly I just took it as part of the confident pose)
I only went to a couple of panels at the con but I'm so glad I went to this one, it was so funny and informative, and I'm always excited to learn things from people who are passionate about the topic!

Nessie @raccoonmilf, founder of the original Dashcon (who came up with the idea at 15 and then had the project hijacked by a bunch of adults who exploited her for child labor 😭) in a Marie-Antoinette-inspired Ball Pit Queen outfit constructed by herself + me as Yugioh Robespierre, at the incredible post-cringe redemption that was Dashcon 2.
We did NOT plan this coincidence but once we realized it we did plan that little failed revolution quelled by Sir @strange-aeons at the Closing Ceremony!
