I have a Star Trek hot take. Zachary Quinto is my favorite Spock.

Now he doesn't have to be yours, and I have no possible hint of disdain for any other Spock actor. I respect Nimoy to the highest degree, and though I haven't watched much of SNW, Ethan Peck seems to be doing a fine job. But I just rewatched the AOS movies and I want to talk about Quinto's Spock.

The storyline itself is my favorite portrayl of Spock. The way it clearly shows the inner-tormoil of Spock's human side conflicting with his Vulcon side in a way we've never before seen in Star Trek.

He's vulnerable. He's an asshole. He's overwhelmed 200% of the time. He's a mommas boy. He's gay as fuck. He somehow pulls off the haircut?

But the way Quinto plays him too. The way as you watch the movies you start to notice how his mouth quirks up a little when he's amused, or his eyes sparkle when he's excited, or the barely concealed break in his voice when he's hurt or very emotional.

Theres just little things I am absolute obsessed with because when he's surrounded by humans it comes off as absolutely no emotion at all but when compared to his Vulcon counterparts it is everything.

I was rewatching Beyond today, and besides appreciating the subtle character arc we see him go through as he expresses more and more emotions, but when he is injured, I was absolutely riveted by the way Quinto played a Vulcon who was clearly in pain but trying to preform at peak performance. His level voice starts collecting tiny wavers and breaks that just feel like you, the audience, knows him personally enough to recognize This is not what Vulcons do, and This is not what Spock does, and Yet he's doing it anyway. Because he's human. Because he's in pain. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk there will not be another because I'm running into traffic because of this stupid guy.
