Just a friendly reminder that the ask-box for Geshu Lin is still open.
Beyond the Grave
Launching the 50% muse half of this account;
in-character asks are now open.
Feel free to send prayers (asks) to former General Geshu Lin (pre-Ovathrax) or post-Ovathrax Geshu; just be sure to address who it's for and who it's from (if coming from a canon character).
Asks may be answered in drawing, writing, or both depending on the premise. Standard asks for the mod are still open, as that is also the other 50% focus of this account (writing and character analysis).

I'm about to go off a bit here, so feel free to leave or have a read through. When Geshu Lin was general, it was an all or nothing situation, to retreat or to fight onwards, and there was no right answer at that time, only the lesser evil. And depending upon the outcome, either choice could have become the lesser evil later on, so Geshu Lin did what he could and gave Jinzhou a moment of respite, his 'sacrifice' ( I put this in quotations because I believe he's not dead ) was not in vain. In my opinion if Geshu Lin had survived the Battle Beneath the Crescent, he would have made Jiyan general. Why? Geshu Lin was a general of old, one focused on military might, purely on the fight since the Threnodian during his tenure was relentless, and Jiyan was someone that could 'nurture' the soldiers, bring them together in spirit outside of war and fighting, a general during a potential time of peace, and Geshu Lin could have his own peaceful retirement, rather than burning away and being remembered in vain, and the soldiers that stood beside him as noble sacrifices rather than just collateral because his last order did resonate with them.
I would like to hear your thoughts too, it's nice to have differing opinions as well.
#i agree that this would be the happiest ending for him#the question is if he feels like he deserves an ending like that after all of his failures#geshu lin#geshu reblogs

Do you have a home? Or someone that you can call your resting place? Or do you actually don't need something like that?
Having a warrant out for your arrest makes living permanently somewhere rather difficult. I find lodging in rural areas best; places Jinzhou law hasn’t touched, or the Midnight Rangers scarcely patrol to spread their word of my absence. It’s oddly peaceful to be unknown in these old border towns; but ultimately my residence status is transient.
As for a person… Let’s just settle on no.
Every human person needs a place to rest. You’d be operating on pipedreams if not, and it’s inefficient in terms of both situational awareness and overall health; both important in war. I’m not stupid enough to assume sheer willpower is stronger than a good fucking nap—but that’s something I don’t have the luxury of, unfortunately.

[To Post-Ovathrax Geshu Lin]
Does your TD hand... Hurt? Is there any way to help it?
Like a bitch, yeah. It has a mind of its own oftentimes. It tends to mellow down with pain. Or worsen. I have resorted to stabbing it on occasion. It will heal anyway, with whatever disgusting Threnodian power is contained within it. I have no reason to investigate it beyond that.
I don’t know why you’re so curious about helping it. Shouldn’t you kill me?

Do you have any relation with Changli? I mean shes a secretary general in the Capital. Have you ever consulted her about war tactics?
I have heard she is a wise woman and the current Magistrate’s ah… mentor. I cannot say with confidence that our paths ever crossed.
I do not hail from the Capital; my roots are here in Jinzhou. But if time had been kinder, perhaps we would have been able to meet.
Something changes in his eyes. His voice grows grim.
It is no matter now. The Capital did not entertain my requests for reinforcements. She is as guilty as the rest of them.

Officially created a side RP blog for a new AU Geshu Lin of mine, aimed on leaning into a more gritty and “Berserk-esque” vision of the TD war and Geshu Lin’s part in it (and the consequences of his survival as well).
Feel free to go and take a look (though I recommend looking on desktop, as the HTML theme will grant you far more clarity than on mobile) if you’re interested.
EMISSARY OF THE LAMENT, TRAITOR OF HUANGLONG & THE SENTINEL JUÉ, CONSPIRATOR OF TURMOIL; GESHU LIN.
A new independent Geshu Lin roleplay blog, centered around a darker themed AU of his survival through a pact with Ovathrax and his subsequent fall from grace. Please be wary that the stories told here will exceed canon-typical violence, venturing slightly further into grimdark territory and putting more emphasis on the war and its strain upon Huanglong, both in past and present, as well as its lasting effects on this blog's muse as a prisoner of war on the run. For your further perusal. ⮩ [!!!] carrd.co (Includes all content warnings and character information.) ⮩ rules (carrd ver.) ⮩ rules (tumblr ver.) OC & CC friendly, as long as they suit the scene. Not particularly focused on aesthetics; AbP is intended to be more writing-heavy. Responses may be slow, selective, and mutual-based; if interested, shoot a follow and I’ll take a look at your blog or sb. This escapade is best engaged with on desktop.

Very important question... Since Geshu Lin's eyebrows are black and his hair white... Which one do you think he dyes?
This is an incredible question, Anon. I never thought I’d receive this in my life!
Unfortunately, I’m a terrible person and I headcanoned that Geshu Lin got Tokyo Ghouled (Marie Antoinette Syndrome; aka so stressed his hair turned white, likely during the manifestation of his Forte. I also headcanon that he is a Mutant Resonator for said reasons; something about him getting his throat slit as a child and the Tacet Mark formation there cauterizing the wound (and thus also the prime reason he’s alive today)) rather than him dyeing anything.
However—for shits and giggles only—in a funnier world, I’d like to say he goes through the incredibly arduous task of dyeing his whole mop of hair white and painfully maintains it every month. Perhaps that’s what happens in a modern AU. That or early grey/white hairs just run in the family.

Just did some translation work on the original Chinese dub/version of Wuthering Waves’ Geshu Lin appearance, and suffice to say, there is a notable disparity between the version we meet in the English version as opposed to the Chinese one. I will be dedicating a full essay post to this later as it requires a lot of tone knowledge and cultural context to understand, but in short:
Chinese dub’s Geshu Lin is much more “sane/logical,” but 10x more angry; and imo, for very good (implied) reason. He has a more authoritative dynamic against Jiyan, in a way that demands superiority and he also shows a lot of shock at Jiyan’s “audacity.” His voice shakes a lot more, he takes deep breaths, etc; as if he’s at the end of his rope and Jiyan is testing his patience.
English dub’s Geshu Lin has more “already insane” and “collected/methodical” vibes, as if he was prepared for this all from the start. He’s comparably less remorseful than CHN Geshu Lin, and his phrasing is much more dismissive, primitive, and immature towards Jiyan. In comparison to CHN, he is notably less shaky, but more assertive and sure of himself (whether through delusion or arrogance).
From what I’ve found so far in terms of notable differences, it seems that the English localization team wanted to aim for a more traditionally villainous-esque Geshu Lin with a few minor additions in his dialogue to nail that dismissive “I know better” vibe, but overall the difference in translation between their version and mine are wrought with nuances that require a lot of explanation.
Stay tuned! This small interaction has a shockingly large amount of implications for who he is, even if it’s a possibly emotionally tainted hallucination.

Merman Geshu Lin (who got harpooned by a whaling ship and consequently beached) x Pirate Captain Brant (stranded on an Island after a huge ocean storm) and their epic journey of recovery with some shenanigans along the way.
Context: Geshu Lin thinks Brant is stupid and doesn’t know how to feed himself because he hasn’t yet realized that humans can eat food such as nuts and berries and survive perfectly fine, unlike himself who is a strictly carnivorous merman. He strictly makes it clear that this huge fish offering is not a courtship attempt, which he also mistakenly assumes is a universal cultural experience; thankfully, Brant has no idea what he’s talking about and is instead flabbergasted by the size of the fish Geshu just put in his possession.
