Geoff Rickly on Warped Tour 2004 discussing the meaning of the track Signals Over the Air from their 2003 album, War All the Time. Uploaded to YouTube by burnthiscity. Transcript under cut.
“Signals Over the Air is about a lot of gender-related things, but especially sort of tyring to come to terms with sexuality as not being a terrible thing, and trying to find my own sexual identity. And, I mean, I think that’s a hard thing for anybody. I’ve never really felt comfortable being, like…just, a man.”
Are there any songs on the record that mean something special to you? ‘I’ve Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth’ is a song that is just extremely personal to me. I don’t know why but I get chills when I think about that song. It just means more to me than any other song on the record–I think it’s a little too personal. I don’t think we’ll play it live, ever.
Never? No, We never played it live, I don’t know when we will. It’s ended up being a lot more personal than it really should.
