I love Our Blues because these people feel real. They’re all grown adults who have absolutely nothing figured out, and that’s REAL. That’s NORMAL. This is what real life looks like and it’s refreshing to see that, especially in a kdrama.
With the exception of the 2 teens, they’re all people in their 30/40s+, all of them at varying stages in their lives, and all of them fucking messy and damaged and struggling.
I’m seeing a lot of people centering each storyline around the romantic relationships, hoping the sad single characters are able to settle down and find love in the end, and I’m sorry but that’s wildly overlooking a huge aspect of what makes this show so amazing. It’s not just about romantic relationships. It’s about friendship, and family, and personal emotional trauma and baggage, and each character has their own story.
The biggest message this show is offering me so far is that everyone is winging it in life (facts), and there are two sides to every story. We’re all literally stumbling our way through life, and there’s no right or wrong journey. But we each have a responsibility to hold ourselves accountable for the life we either choose or are forced to share with others. No one is blameless. Everyone fucks up, and hurts, and hurts people they care about, and idk I just really like watching that aspect of life addressed so honestly.
