I delve into some headcanons about the effect of the Green Flu on the brain and on Brody specifically HERE.

I want to delve just a bit further into his speech and comprehension.

In that headcanon I mention this:

To be more specific about it, Brody has what is called Broca's Aphasia. It's a non-fluent aphasia that is usually caused by stroke or otherwise some sort of brain injury to the Broca's area of the brain. It's unclear just what exactly caused Brody's but it's clear it occurred during his initial contraction of the Green Flu. In short, while he can understand and read-—his ability to communicate back is incredibly hindered.

By default, Brody is likely capable of one-word replies. However, given the post-apoc setting and his infected status...he doesn't exactly have anyone to communicate with and so he exists 100% non-verbal. In most first-time interactions with survivors or speaking characters, Brody will likely lean on gestures or non-verbal sounds or even drawing if the tools and time allows for such.

Given time and some sort of speech therapy, he could come to regain some of his speaking and writing ability.

Brody was off like a damn strike of lightning himself. The only indication as to just who he had wacked with tools being the swift and chasing footsteps behind him. Ah, fuck. So it had been the killer. Oopsie.

On one hand, maybe it was better to antagonize the killer and not your teammates. On the other hand? He'd just instinctively chucked good tools away at a killer who was now looking to run his ass down.

No, this was better. Brody was eager to get off gens and with this being that sneaky fucker...it was better to know where he was and what he was doing. Even if that where was on his ass and what he was doing was looking to gut him.

This was fine. There'd been...one? Distant sound of a completed generator? Brody was shit with math but...he figured he could run this jerk for at least two more. His shoulder thrummed with anticipation of the inevitable hooking he'd probably receive. God, what a bummer. But that would come later. For now? He needed to focus up and see if he could get Ghosty to slam his kneecaps into a dropped pallet once or twice.

Pliers bounce off Ghost Face's shoulder and he winces, more in frustration than pain. Another survivor with a serious attitude problem. Great.

He knows, strategically, he should move on. This one clearly isn't good at repairing generators, so what's the point in letting him distract him while his teammates complete objectives?

But… he really doesn't appreciate having things thrown at him. Letting this one go means showing the survivors that they can disrespect him with no consequences. Fuck the generators and fuck the Entity. He shoots off like lightning, following right on the tail of the survivor.

Brody seemed to take it like a champ, flinching just once during the process but otherwise letting his gaze remained fixed on the horizon.

❝ Woulda been nicer if he didn't just leave me fresh off the hook all bleedin' and fucked. ❞ but hey, he got it. Sort of. As long as he'd been here, he still felt like he was stumbling through this living nightmare with two left feet sometimes.

It was mildly alarming though that there were not just such noteworthy figures here now but enough that he could go trials and trials without encountering them. With the pool of survivors growing, Brody had to wonder if the freaky sky god or whatever would start really culling them eventually. Thin the herd to make room for fresh meat.

Brody let his gaze wander to the generator, squinted. ❝ Y'sure you want me on a gen with you? For real? ❞ he cast another almost forlorn glance for the direction Cage was likely running the killer as if he yearned to be thrown back into the fray. He sniffed, blew an exhale through chapped lips, and sank to begin digging into the generator.

Dwight stopped working on the generator he was on to stand up. He nodded as he immediately crouched again to heal the other Survivor. He had a med kit; he held it up as explanation and got to work healing Brody.

"Yeah, that was the actor, Nic Cage," he said, quickly and efficiently taking care of the other's wounds. "He's nice enough. Kind of weird. I guess the Entity doesn't discriminate between great and small."

Work finished, he stood up again, all business. "Get on the generator with me. We can finish it while the Killer is chasing Mr. Cage."

Holy shit! This is some kind of nightmare. Goddamn Zombie Apocalypse and shit. Shit, shit, shit. What in the hell are we going to do?

The slight rustling of a cloaked fucker around a corner that some survivors could pick up on? Yeah, no. Brody didn't get the luxury of auditory warnings most of the time. Hell, visual warnings weren't always reliable either.

Something does catch in his peripheral though and it startles him enough to fuck up whatever wire he was attempting to tug at within the damned generator (he shouldn't have been allowed on those ever, frankly).

And it's all one fluid string of motions after that: he shocks himself on an exposed wire, he fucks up and makes the machine jolt in protest, he reflexively takes the tool in his hand and flings it at the figure with little regard for if it was friend or foe. And then he's up from his crouch, sneakers dragging in the dirt as he scrambles for footing.

❝-—Sup. ❞ he all but collapses next to the man, his squatted crouch just nearly turning into him falling flat on his ass. Truth be told, he wasn't cut out for the team stuff but...it was kind of necessary in most circumstances.

Brody was a survivor of few words and went without saying he was looking for some help bandaging. He sported a fresh hook puncture, a slightly less fresh busted nose from being hit in the back and falling on his stupid face. All this to say, he looked rough.

He looks back over his shoulder, scrunches his face and flinches in regret as a fresh bloom of pain blossoms. ❝ I think that's the actor. Nic Cage? Unhooked me, yelled, and fucked off... ❞ a statement offered up as a question as he tossed a look Dwight again as if searching for either confirmation that the actor had been sucked into this hellscape OR that he had lost enough blood now that he was growing delirious.
