The situation is like this. I might have been sending memes into the void for about a week. My inbox coming out blank might also be a part of the problem. There are things that are pure fucking evil and this site here is one of them. So if you've posted memes recently and got nothing from me, there's a high chance tumblr ate them.
It appears my blog might’ve been shadow-banned. I’ll see what support can offer (if it doesn’t take 2 months like the last time) but if the situation doesn’t improve I might have to move blogs. 🤡

THINGS SAID BEHIND YOUR BACK — @cuckoo-among-beasts
Tumblr media
❝ WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO? ❞ comes a whiny remark, fingers digging into his shidi's shoulders as he finds himself plastered over his back once again. Wei Wuxian doesn't need to see the other's eyes roll to feel it, as if the searing pain isn't enough to remind him how miserably that little endeavour failed. ❝ Who knew the old man had another pair of eyes on his back? And Nie-xiong was struggling back there, how could I not help? ❞ The mere thought of being stuck here for more than a year makes him shudder, he cannot help but ponder the unfairness of it all, but of course, it's even less fair now that he ended up being the one to suffer a harsher punishment than his test-failing friend. ❝ Besides, he promised to copy the rules for me, so it seemed like a good deal. ❞ Lashes sting, but shallow cuts don't take too long to heal. They'll have to be sneakier next time.
✧ ✧ ✧
❝ Wait, Chifeng-zun is dead? ❞ a pair of chopsticks freezes in mid-air, it doesn't take more than a second for another realization to strike him. When he speaks, it comes without much thinking. ❝ It must've been hard for Nie Huaisang. ❞ The look he receives in return is not particularly expressive, so he picks up the piece of spicy pork and bites into it again with a shrug. ❝ He's not built for it. Being a sect leader. He's more skilled in other matters. ❞ A smile blossoms, chasing away the briefly thoughtful look that doesn't quite suit this new local-idiot persona of his. ❝ Hey, remember that book I once showed you?— ❞
✧ ✧ ✧
❝ Does it really matter anymore? ❞ it's not much of a question. There's not much genuine musing that goes into it either, not when there's a copper taste in his mouth, not when his head won't stop spinning. A hand comes to clasp another, fingers entwined to offer a bizarre kind of solace — the dawn rising over the temple might yet bring new surprises. A brief distraction to be chased away by the exhausted rawness of his heart. He watches a sombre figure hiding behind an ornate fan, and a smirk lights up his face, if only for a moment, if only a bitter fracture of the light he wears like a mask. ❝ Nie-xiong, Nie-xiong... so much for 'the headshaker', huh? ❞ The tiredness of his eyes doesn't give way to fondness, but no judgement creeps into his tone. ❝ Lan Zhan... can we go home? ❞
✧ ✧ ✧
❝ He's the only friend I have left, ❞ he says, and it hits unexpectedly hard, this sudden acknowledgement — Wei Wuxian wouldn't even be here otherwise. Who knows what could've been, then, had Jin Guangyao been left alive. And then, it's something he tends to do. He doesn't give up on people easily. ❝ I don't think what he did was right. But I could never judge him for it. ❞ A few moments pass. A minute. It's easy to lose count, with a whole new life ahead of them. ❝ Those years must've been so lonely for him, too. ❞ It takes another minute. Maybe an hour. He feels a soft hum of a response rather than hears it. ❝ Do we have any business in Qinghe? ❞

hc + 🏠 !!
thematic headcanons.
hc + 🏠 for a home-themed headcanon
Home is too abstract a word for WWX to even begin to comprehend. He's had a few and lost them all, he built one and lost it too, and even in death he didn't have a resting place nor somewhere for his soul to be. His parents' place is gods know where, he's being chased away from the place where he grew up, the settlement in the burial mounds is destroyed... It's enough to come to the conclusion that there's simply no place for him in the world, no matter how huge it might be.
That's why finding home at last (in the Cloud Recesses no less, which feels like a huge cosmic joke as he really disliked the place at first) doesn't come without the constant dread of losing that too. It's simply too good to be true, and it's really all he has — his husband, a bunch of kids to mentor, the in-laws he eventually grows to love. He's terrified of losing that because at this point, losing everything he holds dear is a habit, a given fact.
Still, it doesn't stop him from making the CR his home. Boldly, shamelessly, he chooses to take roots in this place instead of waiting for what feels like inevitable doom to strike. He brings life to jingshi. It's something silly at first, the little things to make it feel lived-in, less ascetic. He leaves a bit of a mess in the room on purpose, so that it's less pristine. He leaves his talismans and unfinished inventions on the desk and decorates the place with his artwork. He whines excessively so they'd get more pillows and warmer blankets for the bed, and of course, the bed has to be replaced with a larger one, the sturdiest they can find. Eventually they might even get a bigger bathtub (and a metal one this time, to prevent more incidents from happening).
And after a while, the fear retreats, and with it the dwelling of grief and loneliness turns into a cozy forever-home for two.

hc + ✂️ for a hair-themed headcanon
It could sound surprising, considering how WWX's signature red ribbon has become such an important part of who he is perceived to be, but he himself doesn't have too much of an attachment to it. At least, not to the particular item. He loves the style, it complements his preference for black clothing, and in a way, the simplicity of it makes him stand out as he never wears intricate hair accessories or does anything more complex to his hair than a ponytail. But the significance of the ribbon is what others make it out to be. And surely, by the time he's revived it acquired many hidden meanings (to others, and through them, to him), but it's still just a ribbon. He wouldn't be too perturbed if something happened to it.
Until he lets LWJ do his hair in the morning for the first time (being spoiled and taken such gentle care of by his husband is his absolute favorite thing in the world) and sees how he holds the ribbon, how much it clearly represents. It is in the hands of his beloved that it finally feels worth treasuring (much like WWX himself, how disgustingly sentimental).
hc + 👗 for a clothes-themed headcanon
It's a canon fact that WWX often 'mistakenly' wears LWJ's under robes, except it's never really a mistake. His are usually red, and LWJ's are white — it's nearly impossible to confuse them even early in the morning, especially when his husband wakes up multiple hours before him and would likely have done many things by the time WWX is finally awake. He does it on purpose. He does it on days when they're forced to be separated until the evening. The fabric still keeps his husband's scent mixed with that of the sandalwood incense, so when they're apart, he'd still feel his presence and be comforted by it. Again, this is disgustingly sentimental. Much like the fact that he cannot physically fall asleep without the Lan forehead ribbon wrapped around his wrist or held tightly in his hand (and of course, LWJ would need it back in the morning, giving him a reason to gently coax WWX awake, which, in turn, gives WWX an opportunity to welcome him with sleepy kisses before he falls asleep again).

hc + 🌞 for a day-themed headcanon
Wei Wuxian has never been a creature of the night, not intentionally at least. Despite the tendency to wake up at ungodly hours and finding it much easier to think and work in the evening, he enjoys sunlight too much to give up the luxury of basking in it. But the Yiling Laozu is a whole other story. Having spent many months in the darkness, he suddenly found it almost impossible to be out during the day. The light would hurt his eyes, make him squint, make him want to hide in the shadows or opt to go out into town when it's cloudy and dark. (Part of it was to let the darkness hide his exhaustion, the pallor of his features and the slightly older look that he shouldn't have yet come to possess.)
He still kept busy during the days, hiding in his cave or helping around in the settlement, but then of course the dead are more active at night, so more often than not he'd stay up until well after midnight and get up early to make himself useful (which only contributed to the exhaustion as a result).

NAME: Wei Ying / Wei Wuxian
MEANING: Wei (魏) — ghosts and spirits / grand, tall or mighty; Wuxian (无羡) — to be free of envy, Ying (婴) — an infant / to pester, to touch. (c)
AKA: the Yiling Laozu / Wei Qianbei (by the juniors)
PHOTO OF YOUR MUSE THAT YOU LIKE:
Tumblr media
(he looks angelic in the outdoor scenes with this psd, but there are so many, he's so pretty)
THREE HEADCANONS
he prefers to tell people that Chenqing was something he found in the burial mounds, but in reality, he created his own spiritual weapon from a femoral bone of a corpse and pure resentful energy of the place. the dizi resembled a living being with a consciousness of its own from the start, so to Wei Wuxian, she's always been a 'she'. to call upon the dead, one must establish a connection first, that's how she came to be known as the ghost flute, and that's where she came from.
in his Yunmeng years, he'd spend a lot of time with the junior disciples, especially when Jiang Fengmian was away. most of it was playing with them to help them relax and enjoy the simple joys of childhood, some of it was making sure madam Yu wasn't too harsh with them, taking the blame for wrongdoings when they occurred. the children of Lotus Pier always loved their shixiong for the warmth and kindness he'd radiate in their presence, and Wei Wuxian simply always adored children.
speaking of Yunmeng days, I haven't posted this here (I think?) despite rambling about it on discord, but a huge part of his troublemaker persona stems from the hatred of madam Yu. she used to punish him a lot, for anything, for pretty much existing (while the harshness of it remains questionable, he'd still get whipped on occasion and sent to the ancestral hall to kneel on a daily basis). his psyche is flexible enough, it adapts and overcomes instead of falling into the pits of self-pity and anger, so to him, it quickly turned to the mindset of 'if I'm going to be punished anyway, I might as well do something to make it feel deserved; if I'll get punished for being myself, I might as well be myself at all times'. the other part of it is, of course, the legacy of his mother.
three things your muse likes doing in their free time    ⎯⎯
drawing at leisure, just to keep his hands busy and enjoy the process.
spending time with children, works for any verse, he genuinely enjoys it and in some ways, prefers their company to that of adults, as it feels more earnest.
Lan Wangji. working on new inventions to make the everyday lives of cultivators easier and feel the elation of achieving something or bringing something that felt like a far-fetched dream concept before into being.
a phobia your muse has    ⎯⎯
dogs, obviously, it's a well-known fact. even if they're tiny, even if they're the most adorable puppies in existence. he might warm up to the latter, or even be in their presence, but only until they show their teeth. it doesn't have to be a full-on bite, just a growl and the sight of teeth is enough.
one thing your muse regrets    ⎯⎯
there are too many things. but one thing he regrets the most is accepting that damn invitation from Jin Zixuan that resulted in the first massacre and the latter's death, ad ultimately, the deaths of Wen Qing and Jiang Yanli. he regrets being the one to make his shijie suffer, and eventually losing the people he loved, despite learning later on that it wasn't his fault, because in some ways, it still was, and it all spiralled down from there.
people your character likes  /  loves    ⎯⎯
Lan Wangji, Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng, Wen Qing and Wen Ning, every tiny cultivator out there, but especially little Lans and Jin Ling; he likes Nie Huaisang and Lan Xichen, and, in later years, Lan Qiren too. to an extent, he even grows to like Jin Zixuan.
here's a thing about Wei Ying: he doesn't hate. hatred requires a less flexible mind than his, and while some past trauma resurfaces on occasion, he tends to adapt to change rather quickly, so he doesn't wallow in it. he pities Xue Yang, he abhors the actions of Jin Guangyao yet he still doesn't really hate him, he mocks Jin Zixun and is annoyed by the guy, and still there's no burning hatred there. he treats madam Yu with respect despite the not so secret hatred she had for him. it's just not part of who he is. he can only despise himself, he doesn't crave revenge when he's the one being wronged unless it happens in a spur of the moment when he's on the verge of a breakdown. but there's an exception to everything, and that exception is Wen Chao.

ONE THING HE SHOULD, PERHAPS, be grateful for is that the Lans don't have a tendency to sugarcoat their words, nor make empty promises that don't come to anything most of the time. Yet it's still the kind of irony that cannot fail to curl his lips into a bitter smile: abandoning the ghostly path, with a fracture of light inside him to make up for all that helplessness, will leave him declawed. He's never been enough of an idiot to buy into the idea of utter selflessness. This is what they'll get. The Yiling Laozu at their mercy, unable to defend himself in the long run, so they could run theirs words through his heart whenever they please. And he'll be the one handing them the blade.
But is there any other choice? Is there any other hope than what seems like a very false one?
Could a Lan truly lie, if they put their heart to it?
❝ I gave it away, ❞ he says suddenly, barely able to process the words before they escape his mouth. It doesn't seem fair otherwise. He's not the only one who should know the details before venturing down this path. The truth would come out eventually, no matter how hard he tries to hide it, no matter how many lies he spins to cover up for it. ❝ When Wen Zhuliu tried to melt my core, it already wasn't there. He'd done it to... someone, before. ❞ And that's all there is — Wei Wuxian was never an unfortunate victim of happenstance, nor one to suffer from the unfairness of the world, despite the cruelty of Wen Chao, despite the raging of war, it was his own decision and the fault, too, lies with him, will always lie with him, to have lost something so irreplaceable and never really regretted it. ❝ Whatever your ritual is, it will cost you, ❞ it's not an assumption but a statement. How could he not acknowledge the implications?
He pauses, then. The resentment whispers again. Clings to the darkest corners of his very being and begs to stay. There's a strange kind of comfort to be discovered in agony. Being locked up with Lan Qiren doesn't sound as terrifying as being left alone with the darkness within him anymore. His fifteen year-old self would've been appalled.
❝ And I'm tired of taking sacrifices, xiansheng, I can't accept another. ❞ A bitter scoff resounds. What is the point of a man who let his sisters die, who cradled the lifeless body of the one he adored the most and watched a sword aimed at him pierce her flesh? What is the point of preserving a life so despised by the world, of sheltering it at such a price? ❝ Cleanse me. Let's see if I survive that first. ❞
Lan Qiren lowers his gaze for a moment, hounding this man is not one of his proudest moments and although he did not agree that he should be killed on the spot, he was not the one making the decisions of the Lan Clan and especially not for any of the other clans. He did agree on one thing though, Wei Wuxian needed to be stopped, at least this one, the one who walked the ghostly path. However, he's not yet beyond all hope.
He doesn't need to ask who he is, the only he Wuxian could mean is his youngest nephew. Qiren huffs. "Yes and no. He knows cleansing you will be dangerous, but not that the danger is increased with your lack of golden core, nor does he know the dangers of you gaining a new one. However, the cleansing is what poses the greatest danger to you and since you have no core, we will need to postpone it for a few days. You need to get physically stronger first." This was needed whether he accepted a new core or not.
The older man nods and sits back in a more comfortable lotus position. "Very well. If you agree to receive a new golden core, you cannot dabble in the ghostly path again. You will have to give that up. Your new core, created by condensed spiritual energy transferred by me, will be fragile until you have stabilised it through usual core strengthening techniques." Each sect had slightly different ones and it wouldn't matter if he used Lan or Jiang ones as long as he worked on balancing and strengthening the seed he would be given. "While you're being cleansed and especially once we start rebuilding your core, none of us can have the interference of another person's qi. We need to be in seclusion." That would not be easy for either of them. "It will be dangerous for you, but if you can take being cleansed, the worst will be over. If you agree to this, you will be under my protection and I will speak on your behalf to the other Elders as well as the Sect Leaders of the other clans." Why was he doing this? He wasn't fully sure himself, but for some reason, he felt that he needed to give Wei Wuxian a second chance, that he had been judged too harshly considering the circumstances, and he had also felt that emptiness inside him, the void where the golden core had once been and it was a feeling he wanted to undo if he could.
"What is your answer, Wei Wuxian?"
