We’re just vessels. And even when we’re told we’re special, as I was, as you would’ve been, we’re still just vessels… for them to take… and take… until we’re empty… and alone.
Sneak peak at the cover art of The Dawn of the Future novella and the extras that come with the Celebration Box.
4 postcards (the better quality images above were shown previously at PAX 2018, I took the liberty of cleaning them a bit as they were originally a screen capture…FFXV Wiki page better credit me if you’re going to steal these screencaptures of mines without asking!)
It’s fascinating how the women of RDR2 who aren’t demure and gushingly grateful to men, who have standards they expect men to meet, hold them accountable, and generally refuse to knuckle under and accept the status quo of what men will offer, are the ones usually demonized by fandom.
Sadie Adler, who’s often painted as annoying and abrasive, decried as “unrealistic” in her capability in combat and survival, criticized for recklessness, has her leadership capability in a time of crisis routinely belittled and her fierce support of Arthur in dismissed in favor of giving that credit to a male char, and who’s usually depicted as monstrous and permanently broken and unable to heal or love again in a way revenge-fueled men aren’t.
Mary Linton, who refused to marry a man who, given the gender inequality of the time, would likely ruin and endanger her with the life he lived, and who holds him accountable for his continued dangerous choices, is called a “bitch” and told she owes Arthur sex or marriage or something because a grown-ass man chose to help her when she asked, knowing full well she lives in a world that’s made her helpless.
Abigail Roberts, who’s slut-shamed, depicted as a cold-blooded liar about Jack’s paternity, suggested as the turncoat, and is called a nagging harpy for holding her domestic partner and the father of her child accountable and asking him to shoulder some responsibility and maturity, especially given the Victorian/Edwardian reality of a woman and child vulnerable to depending on his stability.
Getting a little tired of reading all the vitriol routinely aimed at them. Fandom’s typically primarily women. It’s disappointing that we’ve internalized misogyny so much that we so readily rush to attack and tear down the strong women who don’t rush to fawn over the male characters we stan.
