im a fucking sucker for the “character gets so badly injured that they can’t think clearly and start calling for help in a distressingly vulnerable way.” characters who start using nicknames for their friends they haven’t used since they were kids. characters who start begging for their brother they haven’t seen in years to be there. characters who would usually use their parents’ names or call them mother/father/etc crying out mama when they go down. u understand.

going off of what i was talking about last night, another thing i've definitely changed opinions on is yiffy's name; years ago i just kind of assumed she was named that fairly arbitrarily (due to the attitude certain people had about it online) but i don't see it this way anymore

the fact that jade and rose named her "yiffany" as a joke, and then couldn't be bothered to change the paperwork, ties into how they don't really see her as a real person—for both of them, she's a means to an end. jade wanted to have a kid so that she could be a mom; it's a selfish desire, not about her child, but about her and trying to make her own life fulfilling ("if we have this baby, it will save our marriage" logic). for rose, she used her as a way to try to make kanaya hate her down the line. it goes with the idea that children are treated more like property than people, that parents can have the right to treat them how they want (and turn their name into a joke if they want to). how do you think that makes her feel? she didn't choose that name herself as an act of rebellion or reclaimation, it was just "your parents wanted to do that, and your parents are the ones with power over you, so they did." if anything, the structures in place that led to her being named yiffy are more conservative than they are unconventional and groundbreaking

and, due to the way they both treated her (not just in her naming but every aspect of her life), she doesn't like them. she's the one who suggests the others go with vriska, and gives her parents the finger on the way out. i don't know if she'll go on to either reject or reclaim her name—i could see things going both ways—but i wanted to make a post about it because all of this went completely over my head as a 16 year old

the lachrymose reality of being a closeted puppy is the utter disbelief when seeing "owned by ___" or hearing "___ is my owner". i cannot fathom such a dedicated dynamic ever being a part of my reality for a dirty laundry list of broken reasons

like I think it is good and important to be able to criticise porn and erotica for the relationship to the political environment/context of creation etc, but I think that’s not too different from criticising any other art on these grounds. how is the erotica speaking to conventions of the genre? what is the author trying to tell you in what they hold up as attractive? what might the author be saying that they’re not necessarily aware that they’re saying? how does the narrative relate to other dominant cultural narratives? these are all valuable questions to ask and can be answered in nuanced ways that do not involve kink-shaming & do not involve calling people degenerate perverts. yknow.

Redoing my forsaken au info post because it sucks and the art is ASS.

Ive updated their designs a bit, as you can see shedletsky doesn't look like he has pink eye now and 1x is less asymmetrical and easier for me to draw!

this au is half inspired by both @momgana's au(you guys need to check it out it's peak) and the strange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. also a bit of the hulk inspo is sprinkled in here too ig..

but like this is what people mean when we say child sexual abuse is separate from "pedophilia". much of the sexual abuse that happens to children is not remotely driven by sexual attraction and its not even necessarily something like "traditional" sexual assault. it is the inability to see children as human. its the way children are legally and socially extensions of their parents, they are objects, so you can control them and touch them however you want. the parent is not seeking nor gaining sexual gratification out of it! thats the point! it is not the result of aberrant sexuality. its not even that parents are just in the best position to get away with sexually abusing their children (though this is also true). it is not that "pedophiles" intentionally seek to become parents to abuse their children. its that children are expected to be abused. we call it "parenting".
