I wonder if y'all would be happy to know that a companion fic to You Are My Sun is gonna be uploaded soon...
Titled "Devoted Faith", it focuses more on Mihawk and Shanks' story (namely from Shanks' POV). This side of the story was gone over in some detail in Chapter 18 but will be added to here. It won't be as long as YAMS but it should be enjoyable and full of feels!
I'll be posting some teasers for it soon :)

Day Fades into Night
What the fuck was that?
Immediately, he turned and grabbed his swords, strapping them to his side as he raced out of his room towards the front door. He nearly tore the wooden thing off its hinges as he flew out of the home, whipping around the corner to face the forest.
The mysterious mass was outside of the barrier, but if he could get closer and make it out, he could get a better idea of what he was dealing with. The swordsman cautiously approached the edge of the barrier that sat several yards from the side of his home, one hand already resting on the handle of Wado lest he need to draw her. His steps were quiet, carefully taken as he kept his eyes on the target.
He stopped just before the glimmering form of the barrier, watching closely as the hulking form stood straighter. Whatever the misshapen thing was, it was holding onto something. There was additional movement from what was being held and Zoro found his eyes drawn to the source, only to feel his stomach drop as he realized he recognized that it wasn’t holding onto something. It was holding onto someone.
Terrified brown eyes filled with tears met his, and before he could even think about it, Zoro found himself launching at the beast that held a struggling Vivi captive.

Recovery
Terrified screams filled the air as fire burned around them, devouring everything in its path. Like a ravenous beast, it consumed anything it touched, roaring with a ferocity seen only in the feral creatures that wandered the world.
Oddly, Zoro felt compelled to go towards it. It was like he was drawn towards this monstrous flame, despite also knowing it could easily consume him like everything else it had. There was fear, but it wasn’t of the fire even though it continued to wreak destruction on the land around them. Trees withered and burned to ash, flowers disintegrated into nothingness, and yet, it hardly felt evil. It was angry, but not evil.
He reached for it, hand outstretched towards the fire that now squirmed and writhed like an angry snake, as if he could help it somehow. He wanted to help it, but what could he possibly do? Why did he want to help it to begin with?
Dark smoke began to envelope the sky, shrouding everything in a darkness that even the raging fire couldn't break through. It was darker than a moonless night; the stars couldn’t even manage a tiny twinkle of light.
Fear suddenly filled him as he realized the fire was dying, but before he could even try to do anything, sharp claws, as dark as his surroundings had become, shot from the darkness to–

Gratitude
The revival of Robin and Chopper was a huge event amongst the village. Not only had Zoro fought off the monsters that had slain his friends, but he’d somehow managed to find Death themself and get their souls back. It was a story that very, very quickly circulated throughout the village, and Zoro didn’t think there was a single person that didn’t know of it by the end of the day.
After the border of the village had been checked and confirmed to be still as stable as before, things quickly turned to a celebration. It was a celebration of life and rebirth, a miracle granted by their god (though they had no idea Luffy wasn’t really connected to this). Zoro was exhausted and didn’t have the energy to try and explain it all to a bunch of rowdy villagers who had started…almost worshipping him.
It almost reminded the swordsman of the time Nika had brainwashed them into it, and it sent a feeling of unease through him. Unfortunately, any words of protest he had went ignored, and they all chose to have a feast instead.
He was, of course, invited to celebrate with them as the hero of the village: The Champion of Nika of the Sun, but he couldn’t find it in himself to join in. So much had happened... He’d dealt with an attack from the God of Darkness, he’d gone through an ordeal with the God of Death, and now this?

Memories
“It hurts? Your heart isn’t supposed to hurt, Mihawk!” Shanks sounded more frantic now, “Do you have any idea what’s causing it? What’s been setting it off? Are you sure you’re not sick?”
“I’ll be fine.” He wasn’t completely certain that was true but it wasn’t worth worrying someone else over. “You don’t need to worry about me.”
The dismissal wasn’t received well, and the dejected look didn’t help matters at all, sending another wave of pain through the Core. He visibly winced at this one and Shanks, of course, noticed it.
“See! You’re obviously not okay! How can you tell me not to worry when you are clearly in pain?! Surely there must be something that comes to mind when it first started!”
Oh, he knew. Mihawk knew very well exactly when it started and what the causes were. He didn’t know if they were normal, of course. He didn’t recall ever hearing about any other god falling for a human before.

Death
He was certain, now, that this was not the domain of the god of darkness…but he wasn't sure he was happy with whose he suspected it was either. He took in a deep breath to steel himself, and then pushed the door forward, stepping into the mansion.
Contrary to the outside, the inside was well lit enough to easily see. Just like the outside, it was also covered in colors of black and gold, though contrasted with a rich burgundy color. The front room was expansive and filled with furniture of a style Zoro hadn't quite seen before. It was, like the front gates, ornate and littered with swirling details of leaves and vines. An equally ornate staircase sat in the middle, gracefully leading to a second floor that, no doubt, was decorated just as elegantly. There were even couches with incredibly soft looking burgundy cushions and gold accents that lined the entrance room, as if guests made visits more often than not.
It looked …more welcoming and lived in than he would've expected.
“Well, well, well… I certainly never expected to have you within my domain.”
Zoro froze, gaze immediately locking onto the source of the voice. So he was right, this really was the domain of—

“Well, that went smoothly,” Chopper quipped, smiling sheepishly. “I was thinking they would protest more.”
“They're good kids,” Robin responded with a small smile. “They might have moments of disobedience, but they know when we're truly trying to protect them.”
Zoro nodded his agreement, bothered by the fact his feeling of uneasiness hadn't gone away. It will be fine, he tried telling himself, once they're back in the village we don't have to worry. Still, he couldn't help but glance around them again.
It wasn't like he felt like they were being watched. That was something that he could identify immediately. It was more like…something was just wrong in a way that made him want to grip his swords. Like the anticipation before a fight.
But he didn't see anything? What could it b—
“Ria, dear, what are you looking at?”
Zoro glanced to where Robin was looking.
The little girl was crouched just outside of the fence, looking closely at something, but it was too far for him to see anything. The two boys had already slipped back through the fence, returning to play with their ball again.
“There's a pretty flower here,” the girl said, voice filled with curious awe. “But I've never seen one like it before! It’s all pretty and black!”

Council
Zoro, Vivi, and Luffy had been discussing ways to protect the village should another attack occur where multiple spots were hit at once, when Ace and Sabo appeared in a show of small lights and sparkles. Zoro, being used to it by now, did not react. Luffy was, of course, ecstatic to see the two, immediately launching forward to wrap them both in a tight hug. Vivi, however, let out a startled yelp, drawing the attention of the two strangers who regarded her with caution.
“God of the Moon, God of the Stars,” Zoro introduced flatly, pointing to the two as if addressing the most uninteresting visitors in the world.
“I- isn't it rather rude to be introducing them like that?” Vivi whispered her question as if worried they'd take out their hypothetical anger on her for the bad greeting.
“Yea, Zoro!” Ace quipped teasingly. “You could at least sound more enthusiastic about introducing us to a guest, being gods and all.” He hardly sounded angry, and his eyes showed his amusement despite the scolding. “I feel like chopped liver right now!”
“Chopped liver doesn't barge into my home without permission or a lack of prior warning,” Zoro retorted with (only slight) annoyance.
“Only you could dare talk to gods with such disregard the way you do,” Vivi sighed, rubbing at her temple. “I can't believe you. First with Nika, and now the Moon and Stars as well! You're lucky they don't curse you for it!”
“That's about what I said when we first met,” Sabo agreed, rolling his eyes as Zoro flipped him off (earning a loud, offended gasp from Vivi). “He's hardly one to listen, obviously.”

Re: The God Tear Pearls
The following notes were prompted by an ask about the Gods' tears. Enjoy~!
A god's tears are considered sacred which is why they end up manifesting/turning into something like pearls. So in essence, all the gods' tears will turn into a pearl-like object!
Shape: They're small, as tears are typically small, and initially come out from the tear ducts like normal tears. They just dry and solidify into pearl-like drops. Shapes can vary depending on how they fall. Some might be like spheres and rounded, but others might be more tear shaped or abstract. It ultimately depends on how quickly they solidify and fall. Tear tracks will dry and become dust-like, but still shimmery. It can easily be brushed off.
Color: Fun fact: pearls in real life actually come in a very wide variety of colors! So the colors that the gods cry varies by individual, but often reflect the god themself, whether by relating to their power or how they physically look. So Sabo might have blue-colored pearls, whereas Luffy's are golden. So there can be black pearls, gold, red, blue, just about any color, but will be on the pale/desaturated side. They won't be as vibrant as like an actual gem (ruby, sapphire, emerald, etc).
Purposes: They usually disappear over time if they're on organic surfaces (soil, wood, water, etc) and will provide a sort of spiritual energy to whatever its taken in by. It's why one can sometimes find places with high spiritual energy content, like trees with supernatural energy, ponds and lakes with purifying water, etc. They cannot be infused into inorganic materials/surfaces such as metal, but can be infused into clothing! This is an incredibly long process though that isn't achievable by normal people, so it's almost never seen in everyday, easily-obtained clothing. Rare exceptions are clothing made by a god themselves, imbued with the power, but again, not just anyone can get their hands on this type of thing.
Occurrences: While the tears can be caused by typical things like sorrow or joy, tears can be produced on a whim as well. A god sometimes will purposely leave tears in a place of their choice, turning it into a sort of sacred refuge (as mentioned in the previous point). These areas are pure in energy and will keep evil away, so having that sort of refuge can be useful for a god traversing the mortal world, allowing them to regain their power without worry of corruption or attack.
Effects on Mortals: While the pearls can be absorbed into organic surfaces, this does not apply to a living creature (the only exceptions being greenery like plants and trees). They do provide a sort of protection, keeping evil spirits or energies away and preventing sickness, but that's about it. This means hair, skin, nails, etc cannot absorb the pearls nor their power. Consuming pearls will not do anything either, unless it is afflicted with negative energy which can sicken or kill a human.
Effects on Gods: Tear Pearls don't really have an effect on gods as they have no need for protective energy aside from their own. They can, however, read the feelings that led to the creation of the pearl, whether it was intended to purify an area or if caused by strong emotions. The gods don't typically care about the pearls from others, though, so this sort of thing is rare.
Value: As one might guess, a god tear pearl is invaluable to humans. Humans rarely ever obtain these precious pearls; stumbling across one is incredibly rare. Most don't pick them up as it was not given, and many believe a curse will be placed on them for taking something not meant for them. Obviously this does not stop all who find them, and sometimes the pearls are put into jewelry or other things to act as either a vanity piece one can brag any having, or (for the more modest and cautious person) an object of protection. Protection items are incredibly valued and are worth a fortune. Very few exist though, so most don't believe they do. Those that are lucky to have them keep them close.
Giving: Incredibly rare, a god may present a tear pearl to another that is precious to them, or even from gratitude. A god attached to their bonded may gift a pearl that has been made specifically for them as a gift. A pearl willingly given has a greater amount of power and protective energy than a normal one as it is intended to benefit the recipient. This is typically a very important and precious thing to the mortal recipient. The gods typically do not gift each other pearls (they hardly ever gift each other anything to begin with as they don't have much need nor want for anything) so it's not something often seen between them. Occasionally, a god may gift another god with pearls, but it may be seen as an accusation or insult more than anything else (like suggesting the other god is the cause of said tears).

Eternity
A small, wobbling feeling of hesitation that wasn't his own briefly made itself known in Zoro's mind before being reeled in. It was fleeting, a tentative touch like the brush of a finger, and the swordsman couldn't help feeling like it was shy.
“What's wrong?”
“Can I… Can I help you feel better now?”
Zoro couldn't help but to stare at the god in confusion, before a soft laugh escaped his lips. “I feel fine, Luf. I don't really feel bad at all.”
The small smile stretched wider when the god pouted, white swirling brows furrowing with displeasure. Luffy wasn’t given a chance to complain about the rejection, though. He let out a startled yelp as he was grabbed and yanked forward into a searing kiss, red eyes widening in shock. They separated only after Zoro bit lightly at the god’s lower lip teasingly, drawing an excited gasp.
Luffy stayed close, looking at Zoro with shining eyes glimmering with what was a mix of joy and hope, hands moving to grip the swordsman's shoulders.
“I don't need you to make me feel better. I’d rather you make me feel good.”

Truths and Restoration
In a whirl of white and violet, the god spun to face him, eyes wide with alarm. “I need to go back to the other gods! I just realized, but I don't know if they have and I need to tell them!”
“Tell us what?”
Zoro and Luffy both froze.
This was a new voice, one Zoro didn't recognize. He knew everyone in the village and none of them sounded like this. There was also the fact none of them ever traveled into the forest this far. It could only mean–
“It hasn't even been a day and you're already rushing back like a chicken without its head,” another joined in.
Oh shit there were two now.
Tense, Nika faced the two gods standing at the opening of the hollow, Zoro standing quickly, one hand moving to rest at his swords, silver eyes trained on the new arrivals.
“I wouldn't bother,” one of the gods commented dryly, rolling their eyes when they noticed his movement. “A mortal’s sword will do nothing. What kind of idiot human would have the audacity to attack a god?”

Fears
“You could've warned me before grabbing me and–” The man waved his arms, not really sure how to gesture what he meant. “I mean what was that? Teleportation?!”
Nika nodded, one brow raised like he didn't get what Zoro was so upset about. “It was…” Flames rippled like a sudden shudder. “It was better if I could tell you when the others weren't there to hear it. They can't know.”
Zoro, now looking as perplexed as Luffy had, shoved to his feet and brushed himself off. “What do you mean by that? Is it really such a dangerous thing to hear that you'd need to snap us to a whole different location?”
He got a solitary, grim nod that had him tensing a bit. That couldn't be good. What the hell had he seen that had caused the Sun God to become so cautious? What was it that was so serious that even the villagers weren't allowed to hear of it?
“It is safer here where my power is more concentrated,” Nika explained, eyes flicking to the dark of the forest. “If it’s… if what Zoro saw is what I think it is, then we could be heard anywhere else. We can't– I can't risk that.”
Silence filled the hollow, getting to the point that even the smallest sounds from the animals in the trees and brush could be heard.
“Is that miasma thing that dangerous?”

Darkness Blooms
The two made quick work of the bandits, swords dancing like metal snakes as they tore through the group. It was almost ridiculously easy, making Zoro wonder how they'd even gotten through the forest in the first place. Some kind of strange stroke of luck?
It was then he got his answer.
Just as he was turning to see who might be left of the pathetic men who’d dared target his village, he barely managed to bring his swords up to block a sudden ferociously powerful blow that had him skidding on his feet backwards, nearly falling over the rubble of the crumbled buildings.
A bandit that had apparently been keeping back from the rest of the group stepped through the clouds of dust, a club bigger than Zoro's entire body dragging on the ground heavily. It was an obviously well-used thing, covered in rusty spatters of old blood and misshapen dents. The one who wielded it was huge, nearly ten feet tall and built like a monster; muscled and looking like he could take hits like a tank.
Where the fuck had he come from? He hardly even looked human!
