Not to bring up old "drama" but in regards to Flightfoot/corvidkatana I don't understand why people are making accusations with out receipts or even pointing in a direction to where they got the evidence. I may be wrong but I've looked though their Twitter and Tumblr and I don't see them acting out in any super weird harmful ways. Who cares if they are vegan? Why is that an issue? I dont see them attacking anyone for eating meat/ using animal products. It just seems like they post about it because its important to them, and in their own way they want to live the life that best suits them. That doesn't mean you have to agree with it so just scroll on by and ignore?? Also saw some one accuse her of being a pro-shipper but huh?? Again there's no proof of this. I really looked up to this artist from years ago and still enjoy her WC content. Though trying to figure out if the claims towards her a legitimate or not is frustrating because it's all just a nothing burger.

Lastly the accusations of her liking dark fictional content is so odd to me. Her whole channel on youtube has always been dark content, WC is dark content at times. So people spouting off about that come across as contradictory. I don't want to defend some one that actually is problematic but I also feel like the lack of evidence and finger pointing should be addressed.

re: the vegan thing: corvidkatana reblogs a lot of veganism posts onto their sideblog shadow-articuno. and a lot of these posts are rooted in something we like to call "white veganism" (you can find more poc talking about this here, here, here, and here)

to put it shortly: this kind of veganism tends to exclude the voices of bipoc and instead centers white voices who are highly ignorant to what veganism really is. and if you scroll through the blog, you actually will find a lot of posts comparing animal abuse to american slavery, the holocaust, and the genocide of indigenous people.

that's where the big issue with them lies - that they reblog a lot of posts comparing animal abuse to extreme forms of racism, anti-blackness, and antisemitism. not that they're vegan and advocate for animal rights.

a lot of the things in these posts include things that my people have practiced for decades - long before the colonization of america and the genocide of native americans. so hearing that these traditions are actually "savage" or that "we're no better than genociders" raises a lot of red flags for me.

We interrupt this lovely readalong for more HarperCollins union news.

Namely, the union is on strike. HarperCollins, the second largest publishing house in the United States, has made record profits (in the billions) but refuses to pay its employees a living wage or negotiate in good faith. Unlike the one-day strike earlier this year, this will be an open-ended strike, to last until a fair, good-faith contract is agreed upon.

I cannot overstate the implications here. HarperCollins is a 200-year-old behemoth with over 120 imprints, owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch. You have reads books from this company, I guarantee it. You have enjoyed movies and TV shows spawned by this company. The workers striking at the blood and sweat responsible for launching those properties you love. And as Harper goes, so goes the rest of the industry. If we raise the living standards for one, so the pressure increases on other companies to raise it for all.

The Harper Union need your support. They have a full thread here, but here’s the gist of what they’re asking:

EVERYONE:

- Donate to the strike fund if you can

- Politely email Harper’s HR (peopleteam@harpercollins.com) and the CEO (brian.murray@harpercollins.com) to express your support for the strike and the union.

- Boost their message on social media and among your social circles (here are some assets you can use to do that)

- If you are in the NY metro area, come join the picket line at 195 Broadway in Manhattan!

BLOGGERS/REVIEWERS/BOOKSTAGRAMMERS/BOOKTOKERS:

- If possible, please hold all reviews of Harper titles until the strike is over. (And I would add, if you feel comfortable doing so, tell Harper why.)

FREELANCERS/INDUSTRY HOPEFULS:

- Don’t be a scab. Don’t take new freelance projects or temporary positions while the strike is ongoing.

BOOKSTORES/BOOKSELLERS:

Please note they are not asking for a boycott on Harper titles. A boycott would harm the authors, who have nothing to do with this, so the union is explicitly requesting no boycott.

Also, please do not @ Harper social accounts to yell at them. Direct all feedback to that peopleteam email. The majority of folks watching those accounts are out on the picket line anyways, and their managers have already been warned that, as non-union members, they risk termination if voice any public support for the strike.

do not buy onestar’s confession. i know this counts as a spoiler, but i’ll be honest i don’t care this kind of trumps that.

the book canonizes whitetail being onestar’s mate. whitetail is specifically mentioned to be his former apprentice in the same chapter this happens.

the book specifically addresses this and defends it, saying that now that whitetail’s an adult it’s ok.

it skips over her apprenticeship, we never see whitetail as a kit or apprentice. they did not need to include any reference to her being onestar’s former apprentice. they could’ve made them the same age. they didn’t need to make her his mate at all.

but they did. they very explicitly did. they chose to do this despite everything. they should’ve known better.

this is a children’s book. they have a responsibility not to publish this kind of shit.

they’ve been getting worse and worse with this over the years. they keep on making the family tree into hard canon despite the fans saying, for years, that the family tree was gross. they keep on doing this and this is the final straw. it’s gone from being ignorable to being explicitly defended in text.

you do not write this without knowing what you’re doing. this is a conscious choice on their part.

we cannot let this shit keep happening. at a certain point it becomes our responsibility to do something. please do not buy onestar’s confession and please email harper collins or whoever you have to expressing your disappointment and disgust. something needs to change.
