Black Friday fuck you

Alright, I try to keep my blog friendly and I try not to curse too much on here (but honestly I probably fail at it) but I work retail and I have a bit to say. I’m a manager at a retail store and this is my first Black Friday as a manager. And let me tell all of you ungrateful assholes out there a little something about Black Friday. So buckle the fuck up kiddos.

While all you little shoppers out there line up outside stores so you can get your Christmas shopping done (at probably the worst time of the year) us retail workers who “serve you” are working our asses off. While you all choose to spend your Thanksgiving out and about shopping, I do not get that choice. I work on Thanksgiving to help you.

Guess who’s missing Thanksgiving? Retail workers.

Guess who’s missing spending time with family? Retail workers.

Did I choose this career? Yes.

Did I choose to work on Thanksgiving? No, but it’s part of the job so I agree to it.

Do I happily agree? No because I want family and food.

Am I going to try and be bubbly and friendly to everyone who comes in? I’ll try my fucking hardest!!

But do not get mad at me if I’m not smiling at you or I accidentally give you an attitude when I don’t intend to. We are working nonstop with hundreds of people coming into our store and try to get everyone in and out and happy. Do not get mad at me if the shirt you want is sold out. I have no control over what we get in shipment and I don’t have control over who got the last small in that pink top you wanted.

I am working 5pm to 2am on Thanksgiving. I’m missing my family and I’m missing family members I don’t get to see often because apparently the retail industry decided Black Friday is now on Thanksgiving!!! WHY???? I don’t know! So be grateful that I am there to help you with anything you need. Be grateful that we are even open for you to get your grubby hands on shit. Be grateful you are with your family.

Then there’s the actual day of Black Friday. A lot of us are working 12+ hour shifts on Black Friday so that you guys can buy your Christmas gifts. So excuse me in advance if I’m not a perky retail worker and you complain that I’m not smiling. Would you be smiling if you had to work 12+ hours and spend it with rude people? Would you be smiling if you had to work at a store where there is a line that wraps around the store of people, who are grumpy and not happy that we aren’t moving faster to check them out?

No, I didn’t think so.

Also why the fuck are you shopping on Black Friday??? Just buy your Christmas gifts before then. It’s ridiculous to see videos on YouTube of people fighting (or being killed) for a stupid toy that talks and sings! Buy your shit before now and then you’d have a chance of actually getting it.

I don’t know. I’ve never gone Black Friday shopping so I don’t understand the necessity of getting up early and going to stores in the fucking cold. I literally have most of my Christmas shopping done. But if you choose that alright I will respect that, I won’t understand but I’ll respect it. But please be nice to retail workers.

And for the love of God can you all smile if we smile at you???? Like holy shit the number of times someone comes in (not just on Black Friday) and we smile and greet them and all they do is give us blank or angry looks and curt replies is ridiculous.

Be a decent human being!! Smile at the workers!! We don’t want to be there working on THANKSGIVING!! We want to be with our families and go into food comas!!

No I’m not saying EVERYONE is ungrateful or an asshole, there are SOOO many amazing people who are friendly and make my day. What I’m saying is be considerate and be mindful of the workers on Black Friday. You guys are with your families while we are not.

I love working retail it’s why I chose my job, but I do not like it when I get customers being snippy at me when I am trying to help them and be friendly.

So be nice. Be courteous because I am spending my Thanksgiving with you people.
