Checked another few boxes today. Since my first visit to Milan for Eicma in 2011, I have wanted to go to Lake Como, just short distance from Milan - AND I’ve wanted to ride a motorcycle. My friend and GL Rider @paolocattaneophoto Paolo Cattaneo sent me a message saying Saturday was going to be the perfect weather window (it’s been rainy and cold most of the week). So I checked out of my hotel, took the train to the suburbs north of Milan. Paolo picked me up, we went to his uncle’s and borrowed a Moto Guzzi (his uncle is an enduro race team mechanic who likes to work on old Moto Guzzis). So I checked another box: first ride on a Guzzi. Next we went to Paolo’s house and picked up his KTM 1190 Adventure, named Brontë, which has nearly 200k km after four years of riding around the world. I had the honor of riding Brontë the rest of the day for a tour to Como, Bellaggio, where we crossed Lake Como by ferry, the rode the west side of the lake back to Como. Spectacular fall day with fresh snow in the Alps and not a cloud in the sky. Paolo grew up in this area, so he graciously played tour guide, then offered to host me at his family’s house tonight - I’ll check another box when we sit down to the home cooked Italian meal his mom is preparing. What a day!
