can I get my canadian followers to sign this? and my other followers to pls share it? it's one of those things that automatically sends a message to your MP and MPP and a bunch of other politicians basically asking them not to mess with transgender healthcare. it's from the RNAO but you have the option of signing it as a member of the public. not sure how much of a difference it'll make but it's better than nothing
also tagging @allthecanadianpolitics for visibility

[ID: A digital illustration of Jester Lavorre from Critical Role. She is wearing her outfit from the Echoes of the Solstice one shot. She's holding up a paintbrush with green paint on it and looking in it's direction with an expression of concentration. Her tongue is sticking out a little and has one eye closed. End description.]

in other tide & bone episode 2 thoughts i want to put out into the world: i loved madam glask's backstory. As a first generation immigrant who saw the sacrifices my family made (and knowing that our experience was STILL so privileged compared to that of so many others), the idea of parents giving up everything (including their lives) so that their children might find success in “the new world” resonates so deeply. I particularly liked the fact that the price for the deal is already paid. Whether or not madam glask took the sea gods up on it, her parents had paid the price (read: whether or not you wanted to come to this new world, whether or not you wanted your parents to give up all these things for you, they did that. They didn’t ask you, but they did it FOR you. And x amount of years down the line that REALLY means something).
But as madam glask’s story makes evident: the new world isn’t easy, and even with your gods/your people watching over you, sometimes the cost of success makes it ring a bit hollow. I love that madam glask sees herself in mina—and im hopeful that there’ll be an opportunity for their relationship to develop in a meaningful way that acknowledges not just the similarities but the DIFFERENCES in their situation. (I’m really dying to know more about glask’s journey to success, and hey, maybe we’ll even get someone playing mina in a future circle? :O who knows)

Well Matt and Taliesin haven’t played in a game, though they’ve either been tangental (Taliesin as lightkeeper and ad reader) or as a DM (Matt), and come to that, I think it would be amazing to have an ‘all dm’s+taliesin’ table and introduce another new DM!
Brennan, Taliesin, Matt, and Aabria + guest pc (I would be so excited for Griffin McElroy to be there bc full all dm plus Tal table! But dunno if it would be his vibe, though I think he would be crazy good at it) and a new DM would truly be so fucking good and wonderful! Getting Spenser back would be awesome too!
I see a lot of people talking about the next circle in Candela obscura but like... I think the circle of tide and bone might be the last one ? Every member of Critical role has participated in CO and CR will Never so a ttrpg without at least one core member in. Which is i believe normal after all you tend to watch CR for the plot but also for the core member. So i believe that next épisode might be the last ep of CO for a while
I think 2024 will be focusing on their other ttrpg system. We might way down the line have a Season 2 for some circle maybe but i am doubtful

Knowing that Noshir is stalking the posts for CO (hi!! Welcome!! You’re awesome!) I do wonder if he’s reading the fanfic as well, and if he will randomly pop into someone else’s Twitch chat down the road to request updates from his favorite author like Aabria did that time. (We still look out for her whenever the relevant topic comes up. Aabria is also very awesome and brings the most delightful chaos.)

staying up till 2am to watch the latest candela episode was entirely worth it for so many reasons!! as someone currently writing a unit plan to teach about sff and horror and social justice issues this episode was perfect food for thought!! assorted things:
this circle in particular, but candela in general, is asking one of those important questions in the horror genre— what makes a monster? typically, in traditional horror, it's what society fears (even in early work such as vampiric folklore and frankenstein— the "Other" always reflects something that threatens to upturn societal values) but i love the way candela is flipping that on its head. Like social injustices ARE the real evil all along and it is so refreshing to see that
it started with Sean in the last circle: is revenge monstrous? is the blood of the people who ordered him to war somehow worth more than the blood of the people he killed when he was ordered? how do you stop being a weapon once you've been honed into one
And this circle is all about monsters. On technicalities, most of them have something supernatural in them but i was particularly struck by aabria's response to and elsie's reflection of her role in cullet research: sometimes inaction against power structures is a root of evil and while guilt makes for interesting self reflection in the aftermath, it is not an excuse (a fantastic mirror of so many real world things)
And then there was the "evil" they were fighting in the first place: a child who was scared and fighting tooth and nail with all the tools she had to keep her people safe. Watching from a country where those indigenous to the land do not have equal access to clean water; and are often prosecuted for defending further desecration of their land and communities, i think the way this was dealt with was an excellent story choice. The characters had a choice to be real allies, to support mina in the way that she was asking for with the tools they had, while also taking care of her and acknowledging that there were things she did not want from them. Whether or not they follow through on it remains to be seen, but i think letting her keep the water sentinel, and offering to cart water over were both great. Hopefully they can live up to their commitments because i have a feeling that candela, like most structured institutions, isn't gonna view it quite the same way
i think between the war trauma and lack of veteran support, terrible mental health treatment, the clear differences in social class across newfaire, and the bug in a jar approach candela has to studying even its own people— i would not be surprised if we slowly headed towards more circles that not only actively hid things from their lightkeepers, but also went rogue entirely! And i, for one, look forward to that

i think the interesting thing about oscar grimm is that if his immortality prevents him from aging, it comes at the cost of losing integral parts of himself to keep returning from death, rendering him vulnerable to one of the major side effects of aging that people fear the most
